Plain and simple, I love my surgeon! I was apprehensive as I had to switch places for my surgery due to a change in insurance. But I am so happy that it did happen. He was amazing and very funny too. Never felt uncomfortable with him. If you're looking for a surgeon in the OC or LA area, give him a try!

Good luck! And yes he is so awesome. Funny how a change in my insurance led to him being my surgeon and soooo glad he was. -
You look Amazing! I can't wait to get to this. I think you listed everything I want to get done in about a year. Can you give a rough estimate for your costs and how long did you stay in Mexico for healing post surgery?

Does everyone need plastics

I know this wasn't geared towards me but I am a diabetic who first had lap and revised to the bypass. My diabetes was called in remission 2 days after the surgery. At the 3 month post surgery my A1C went from 9.5 to 7.5 and is still lowering. The mental need for sweets that ruled my waking thoughts is gone. I don't even miss them but it's only at the 6 month point. I'm about 50 pounds from a healthy bmi. With the bypass, for a diabetic it's the bypassing the duodenal switch which helps us first and then the weight loss. Other surgeries help diabetes but because of the weight loss which takes time to do. I do still have some lingering neuropathy but my kidneys which weren't so great before are normal and most of the other diabetic related health problems are gone now. I would recommend this to and diabetic in a heartbeat. Just follow your doctors orders though for success! Good luck! -
Congrats!! Amazing transformation.

619 is also a San Diego area code unless the country code was different. So you'll still be calling into the US. -

I am glad you posted your experience here! Not sure why someone has to go and ruin a positive thread with 2 cent negative vibes. Reading these 'ads' is one of my motivations because I want to be there one day and i want to know who had good experiences with doctors, especially if a doctor has multiple good reviews. Also want to know if there are bad ones too so as to avoid those in the future. Awesome job! Hope I get there one day. -
Give your opinion to tell or not

It's a personal decision. There is no wrong or right. In the beginning I didn't want to share maybe because I was ashamed. But then I realized if someone was my friend they'll support me and if they criticize me then I don't need them around. If you don't want to talk to that person it's your decision but at least you know someone who has gone through what your about to and you can talk to them when YOU want to. Good luck with your journey! -
I love triple D! I watch it more now since wls than I did before. It's like window shopping but food. I would like to try some of the meat or BBQ places he goes to. Just toss the bread parts or sugar parts. Maybe we are masochistic and like the torture lol but I wouldn't give up triple D. Better than most programs out there and Guy is awesome!

Eat fresh strawberries instead! It's the season for them and they're naturally sweet and yummy too!

Maybe it's deli meat. I had same problem with it. Even vomitted. Yet I can eat rotisserie chicken just fine. Maybe because it's less processed? I'm Avoiding deli meat for now. It was when I was 6 weeks postop that I had problems. For time reference.

So far I can handle it if it's a lower sugar greek yogurt and diluted fruit juice which they gave me in the hospital. Any more and I get queasy and I really don't want to get hooked on super sweet stuff again.
-
Has anyone tried diluted Gatorade during the weeks when water has a funny taste? I tried the sugar free and it's nasty but if the hospital gave me diluted apple juice figured diluted Gatorade might help the hydration.
-
Ohh I'll look for that. So far slightly diluted Gatorade isn't making me sick. And easier to drink than water.

I would've gone off on the person. How dare anyone judge us becoming healthier, even if it requires surgery. We are judged for being fat or skinny so screw them all and let them watch my skinny ass walk away( when it gets there lol). When I was way bigger people stared even if I ate a salad or worked out. Woot! F them all haha. This is our journey not theirs! -
I was trying to lower the sugar content. But it's low compared to most drinks. I just can't stand the artificial sugar taste. I was fine with crystal light first couple weeks then it tasted funny too. And regular Gatorade seems to sweet full strength now. Just wondering if anyone had dumping issues from not diluting it.

5 days post op, diarrhea.
volkitteh replied to hgielrehtaeh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started off with lactaid milk 2%. Seems to be ok with me. It's made for lactose intolerance. I didn't try eggs until my mushy stage at week 3. Good luck with the protein and the journey! -
Any Band converters under........
volkitteh replied to reshiapooh96's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck with your rny! I am now more than 5 weeks out and I know it will be a life long change but already revision of band to bypass was best decision of my life. My diabetes was gone from 2 days after surgery. That alone makes it worth the surgery and worth avoiding sweets again. -
The surgeon and after reading it seemed riskier. I think if you get the bypass and stick to the directions you'll lose fast enough. and the bypass does bypass the duodenal dorm what I understood. Best thing to remember is that all of these are just tools and can be defeated. Many who have DS have it revised to bypass also.
-
The DS has even more of an absorption issue than the bypass from what I understand. I had researched both since my comorbidity is diabetes but DS is used for more extreme now. I am a month post bypass and it did get rid of the diabetes. I was a band to bypass revision to be specific and very happy with my bypass.

The dreaded dumping syndrome!
volkitteh replied to MrsGloMartin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started with myoplex original. Like most low sugar the taste isn't wonderful but they're passable at least and I didn't actually mind the taste. And best part is each one has 42g of protein so that's half way to daily requirement. Luckily I haven't had dumping yet but if my Greek yogurt has too high sugar(over about 10 for me) I get a little queasy. And if you find something that works, get a lot of them lol. Best of luck!
