A place for bandsters in their 60's

Hey, I'm here, too; just been slackin; off. I'm not doing well with this band. I guess I need to be on here more often, for support. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Think thin.:>) Judy

A place for bandsters in their 60's

I had surgery in Georgetown, Ky. I only saw the dr the day of & the day after, surgery. I have ate as little as possible & exercise 3-5 times a week. I DON'T eat fatty foods, sweets, or pop. I just think I'm the 1% that the band simply does not work for. The dr keeps telling me not to give up..yet, but....???

A place for bandsters in their 60's

H Judy, I', Judy, too. I was abanded April 17th, of this year. I'm not doing as well as you are. I've had problems since I was rolled out of surgery. I have NO fluid in my band right now. I have only lost about 35#, & most of that was in the first couple of months. I credit exercise, & dieting, not the band, for any weight loss. Good luck with the cruise. Have lots of fun & make eating the last thing you do. Judy

    plateau

I have not lost a # in 3 months. I exercise, drink, & diet the best I can. I don't feel like I have much restriction, but I have pain...in my stomach, neck & shoulder, that is unbareable. :>( I thought I was to loose weight because I would not be hungry, not because I couldn't eat. Confussed:>(

    Gaining weight Back

I was banded 4/17/07. lost 35# in 3 months; from being so sick & in so much pain everytime I ate. I have not lost anything in the past 3 months. I exercise, drink lots of water, eat diet food(no fat or sugar). I don't know what to do either. I have gone throught so much pain & expense for 35#???? I am getting a fill on Friday, but I'm scared to death. I can't take much more pain. I really think I have band slippage.

    protein

I was told that I needed 70 to 80 grams of protein, daily, after banding. I started stocking up on different kinds & flavors. Then, people told me "not to buy too much, because I would be able to get it from my food." There is NO way I can get that much protein in a day. I would have to eat nothing but meat, beans, & cottage cheese. I have a hard time getting any kind of fish or meat down. (It seems to hang. ) If It wasn't for whey protein shakes & protein bars, I would never come close to getting the protein in. How about the rest of you??? Can you get your protein from your food alone?? just wondering
  7. I'm at home all day , with the fridge. My DH keeps it stocked with ice cream & pies. He always has cooking & chips here. Even tho I don't work , I still have to face the demans evey day. I guess we just have to get tough. If we are tough enough to go through surgery, surely we can find the strength to just say "no way." Or, at least only eat a little. :>)

    Sipping through a straw

I was told to never again use a straw. Because for some reason, I have not burped since banding, I try not to do anything that might put more air in my pouch. I don't chew gum & try to stay away from anything whipped. To each his own, Babe. If you can do it with no prob; go for it.
  11. Hang in there,Mandi. One day soon, you will look at them & think "how can they eat like that." I remember, just after surgery, when I was starving, & I yelled at my 5 year old niece for not cleaning her plate. I couldn't believe she had food & wasn't going to eat it, while I was going hungry. Now, I watch my husband eat & say, " You just put more food in your mouth, in one bite, than I eat in a whole meal." I can hardly stand to watch other people eat. It will get easier...& you will get the last laugh. Happy loosing:>)
  12. That other thread was getting too long. So, lets start a new one. How is everyone doing? I am doing a little better. I seem to have gotten my eating under control. I have not frothed for 2 whole days:whoo: That is a BIG improvement for me. I also started a new body sculping class. UGH:omg: My body things I have lost my mind. I still do Water arobics 3 times a week, & always will, but this new class?:cry Have a great day. judyfay :boredClaramae, I have been missing you.

    Slow Loser

I'm a slow looser also. 35# in 5 months, but most of that was in the first 2 months. Now, it seems the scales are stuck. UGH! I work out 5 times a week, & eat as little as possible, but it's s-l-o-w going. I was banded 4/17/07, & wanted to loose 50# this year, but now, I don't see that happening. :>(

    I've lost my manners

That was great, Juli. Don't let that get you down. Wait until you have to run out of a resturant, to froth, before you pay the bill. Thats a little embarrasing, too. Especially when some one runs after you, because they think you are trying to stiff them on the bill. :>[ I try to keep lots of napkins handy. I spit a lot, & there is always that string of slobbers. YUCK!!!

    Stomach/Mid Back pain/Hiccups/ PLEASE HELP!

I've had simular pain for 5 months. One time I ate 3 small shrimp, & then "frothed" for 30 minutes, & had to do liquids for days. It happens to me all the time. Then dr., rn, & np, have NO answers. They say, Your band is too tight", or "take smaller bites", or chew more". I alway take small bites & chew well. After you take that bite, thats not going to agree with your band, there's not a d--- thing you can do , but suffer. God bless, judyfay

    Slow Losers - Unite!

My band was too tight when I came out of surgery. UGH!!! I lost 15# in 8 days, from dehydration. There was nothing that could be done, since there was nothing in my band. I just had to tough it out. That was almost 6 months ago. I have had 3 small fills & 1 un-fill since. I now have, like, 1.4 in a 4cc band. & can barely eat anything. But, my weight loss has stopped. I too, am sick of the questions. My neice had by-pass a week after I was banded. She has lost over 80#. I have lost maybe 35#. So, I hear it all. I do water arobics 3 days a week. I started another, "body sculping class", today. The first thing the trainer said to me, in front of everyone, was,"you need to go on a diet." I wanted to slap her. If she had any idea what kind of hell I have been through, just to loose 35#, she would have been ashamed of herself. I can't eat any less & I can't exersize any more. I have to ask myself, "Is this really worth it?" Being sick & in pain everyday might be worth it , if I was loosing weight, but, Im not.....so, I don't know..... I could really use some encouragement.:help: Judyfay62

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Just talked to my dr. It seems I need an unfill. Too tight. I go Monday. I'm alway a day late, a dollar short, or my band is too toght.

    New to site

I'm probably not the one you need to talk too. I have had a lot of unusual complications. I'm having one now that no one has ever heard of, & I have to get an unfill on Monday. For the most part, the band is great, but, I only know od 1 person that said it was a walk in the park. That he never had a problem.
  19. Just say," this is how I eat now." Then drop it. Maybe you can do some "slim fast". I get so tire of the stupid questions. "How much weight have you lost" , is the worst. People who see me 3 times a week will ask every time. UGGGG!!!

Oh boy...how long till it gets easier?

You should wean off caffine slowly, so you won't get withdrawals & headaches. It will get easier after you get your band. You will be too busy trying to get in the "must haves", to want the "must not haves".
  21. 1 small banana, 1 cup 1% milk, 2 TBS Simpley Jif peanutbutter, 1 scoop vanilla Whey protein. You can use chocolate, also. Taste great to me. About 500 calories. Low fat. Over 20 grms of protein. A serving of fruit. It will stick with you for hours. I drink one before swimming. It's the only thing that holds me thru exersize.

Be thankful for the burping. I have not burped or vomited since banding. It leads to many problems. My port was sore for 3/4 months after surgery. Even now, if I lean over a cabinet , wooo, look out. That area bruses easily, too. Good luck, & may there be less of you soon. :>)

    Eating

I got my band in Ky. I got a hand book with step by step instructions. It's a good thing, because I never got to see the surgeon again. A nurse practioner took over & does all my fills, etc. Believe me, you will know when you eat something you shouldn,t.

Hello! I got my band 4/17/07. It has not been a walk in the park, but it is working. I'm down 35# in 5 months. Keep in touch. It will seem forever while you are waiting for you surgery, but it will come. Then you will be on your way to a new you. God bless!

A place for bandsters in their 60's

I think I might need a fill. I think I'm getting too hungry, & you know the rest of that story. My biggest problem is after I exersize. I can only do arthiitis water arobics, because of my joints, & you know just how hungry water make you. I am shaky when I get out of the pool. I've started drinking a protein shake with fruit in it before I swim. It helps a lot, but not a total cure.
