For those on liquid diets now.
brown eyed gal replied to misstvb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Confession time... this is the 3rd day of my dreaded liquid diet and I cheated at lunch. But...I had about 4 oz of meat and green Beans. I put pepper on the bread that came with the meal so I wouldn't even be tempted! I think I will be able to go to bed tonight with out drinking a shake so maybe that will all even out (finger's crossed).. -

Algae, I have been using them every since I got them. Although I have to admit I'm not crazy about the taste of the chewable Vitamins. Be sure to read up on taking Calcium within so many hours of taking Iron. You can't take them at the same time. I'm still learning a lot of this stuff also. -

You can buy the sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast at the Bailey Medical Center deli. Over by where they have the seminar and they are $5 a box. I don't live very close to Owasso & didn't buy enough. I've found chocolate only at Walmart. I'm going to get sick of it I'm afraid! -

I'm on my 2nd day of 14 days of: 4 or 5 sugar free carnation instant breakfasts a day. I can only have 8 oz of skim milk in one day so I divide that up between my shakes. (Not too tasty by the way) I can also have sugar free Jello and sugar free pop cycles. I had a horrific head ache yesterday. Usually the only thing that works for my head aches is Excedrin but since I'm having a bypass, I'm off all NSAID's FOREVER! So I'm taking Tylenol which I usually do not use but I guess it will have to be my go to medicine now! While I'm at work it's not too bad but on the weekend I think I'll really struggle. My surgery is October 22, 2014. -

I was going to ask the same question. The timing of taking supplements, etc. It's crazy! -
Aetna...What did you do to get approved?
brown eyed gal replied to dede0314's topic in Insurance & Financing
Mine was same as Jessi. I just found out I was approved. I have my surgery October 22nd! They submitted to insurance on Friday and I found out Tuesday I was approved! I'm having RNY. -
I've read that if you have the sleeve, they cut the part of the stomach out that produces ghrelin. What about the bypass (which I'm having October 22nd. I know they don't cut part of our stomach out but by detaching it, does it decrease the ghrelin?

Well Dang, that's not the answer I wanted! lol!

Ok, I do not start my preop diet until October 8th. My preop diet is very clear! And my post op diet is "fairly clear" At my last nut visit she was emphasizing what I should eat after surgery. I showed her what I have been eating because I'm really trying to focus on getting Proteins in. She "very nicely" slapped my hands for using Special K Protein drinks because they have 28 grams of carbs and 18 grams of sugars. My question is this....I know I can't have that many grams of carbs and sugars after surgery or on my pre-op diet, but does it hurt to have it now (a week and two days before I start my preop) Of course I've bought several boxes of the flavors I like. I have found a couple of Protein Drinks that fit into the low carb low sugar that I will be allowed after surgery. My surgery date is October 22, 2014. Thanks!

Just found out yesterday, my surgery is tentatively set for Oct. 22nd, (pending insurance approval) I will have to do a 2 week pre-op diet. 4 sugar free carnation instant Breakfast shakes a day mixed with....water (ugh). Well I can have 1 cup of skim milk a day, so I might put 1/4 C Water in all four. Not looking forward to that part but ready (I think for surgery)! I can have two sugar free jello's and two sugar free popcycles a day also Whoop! Whoop! lol!

Do they weigh you right before surgery
brown eyed gal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh in for the last time tomorrow before insurance approval. My question is do they weigh you again before surgery, like right before or at pre op. With my insurance Aetna, I cannot gain even one pound. After insurance approval I would like to live a little before my actual surgery! -

I'm fine with them weighing me for anesthesiologist, etc. I just don't want to get kicked out at the last minute because of Aetna's anal weight policies! lol! -
Do they weigh you right before surgery
brown eyed gal replied to brown eyed gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I weighed in yesterday at doc and had lost 5 more pounds. Doc said if insurance approves me, "I'm golden" Not sure when I will hear from insurance. I will have pre-op appointment with surgeon in two weeks and probably will be will be weighed before surgery. At that point, I will have been on a two diet consisting only on surgar free carnation essentials (4 a day mixed with 1/4 c Water & 3/4 c skim milk) I will SURELY lose weight on that. I have been a Weight Watcher member since 2004, lost 60 pounds finally in 2006. I'm a very slow looser. I have continued to stay on WW and am compliant 85 percent of the time yet I continue to gain weight. My husband and I are going on a short vacation before my surgery. I would like to eat one at least one normal meal a day, no deserts, no splurging, just semi normal! I'm not planning on going in a food funeral binge! lol! -
Crap! I have Aetna. My plan calls for a 3 month supervised diet (I weigh in 4 times, the last being Sept. 12th) I lost 6 pounds the first month, remained the same the 2nd month, and hope I'm down next Friday. That really scares me, I hope by not losing between my second and third weigh in's doesn't keep me from being approved. What will really stink is that I had my shoes off the first two times and the third time I left them on to give me some wiggle room for this last weight in. I'm really sorry that's completely crazy that you've lost that weight and you were not approved!

Dang! That's just not right! I'm sorry.

SUCRALFATE?!?
brown eyed gal replied to brown eyed gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I do have acid reflux currently and have taken aciphex for several years. I also have Barrett's. Thank you for your reply, I can only imagine how much worse it will be after surgery! Right now I'm thinking I'll do good to get it down twice a day.... -
I'm actually pre surgery but was prescribed sucralfate to take 4 times a day. How on earth do you fit it in when you have to take it 1 hour before you eat and you can't take it within 2 hours of taking other meds? I take meds in the morning and at night! Any insight? I guess it's something I will have to figure out!

Celebrate Vitamin chews...you can have them.....
brown eyed gal replied to wablue31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BryBro63 I just got my shipment from procare today. Won't have surgery until October. I'm wondering if there are different flavors of the Vitamins and Iron, I hate to be picky about free stuff, but I'm not crazy about the flavors they sent me! lol! -
Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) vs Gastric Bypass (GB)
brown eyed gal replied to docbree's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't have R.A. but I realize your concern. I have GERD and Barrett's Esophagus, meeting with surgeon tomorrow but I have read and heard that they really recommend RNY. Although...several people have had the sleeve and it helped their Gerd. -

I have to have a 3 month supervised diet which consists of seeing my doctor 4 times. -
A facebook friend shared this link, it was very helpful to me, if you have Aetna and am confused! http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html

What if in June you weight 410 but by August you are back down to 406? That's what I'm struggling to understand!
-
I have Aetna. I went to my initial appointment on July 17, I specifically asked Dr. if I needed to "diet" now. He said no. So... I haven't been eating as well as I normally do. THEN two weeks after I saw the doctor, one of his team, called me to go over info and he told me that I am not to gain ever from my first visit to my last visit. I will be weighed 4 times total, counting first time. I had read that I should not weigh more at my last visit but I didn't know that at each individual weigh in that I should NOT gain weight. So...this next two weeks, I'm going to be super good so that I do not weight more than my June weight when I go in July. Frustrating I wish I would have know this from the very beginning! Wish me luck!
