HELP - Suddenly scared of complications
Babbs replied to HopeandAgony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Risk vs benefit, my dear. The benefits FAR outweigh the risk. -
Such a learning curve... Now the hard part begins
Babbs replied to maggie409's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I can tell you where your carbs are coming from....too much fruit. I didn't really start eating fruit until I was about 8 months out. And then I mostly stick to berries because they are the lowest in sugar. Bananas are carb city! -
New study about the long-term effectiveness of the sleeve
Babbs replied to Rogofulm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ooooh.... "extrapolatability" and "f**k" in practically the same sentence? Love it!!! Who says people curse because they lack the vocabulary to express themselves properly? You know who says that? People who don't know what "extrapolatability" means.... I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Some days I almost have a defeatist attitude about it, thinking "I'm going to enjoy being thin while I can". But then I get my determination face on and think I just CAN'T go back. I'm just going to have to take it one day at a time, almost like an addict--no, JUST like an addict has to approach their sobriety. I can't worry about the 'what ifs' and worry about the right now. And right now, as of today, I've excerised and eaten right. And that's the plan for tomorrow, too, but I'll take that on when tomorrow comes. I just won't live in constant fear of regain. I can't. I won't. -
@@Jrenae00 I think it will be easier for you to taper down. But start with a low nicotine juice. I think I started at like a 16, then went down to 12 and so on.... Good for you! Good luck!

How many calories, fat, carbs and protein should you consume in the first month after the sleeve surgery
Babbs replied to Clementine Sky's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Okay, answers may vary, but here's mine. 1-5 Weeks : 300-500 calories 6-8 Weeks: 600-800 calories 2-6 Months: 800-1000 6 months and beyond: 1000-1200 calories At a year out, I've ramped up to about 1250-1300. Once I hit maintenence, it may (will) change. I never watch fat. I got no more than 50 grams of carbs until I hit 75% of my excess weight lost, now I get anywhere from 70-100 grams to match my protien grams. I always strive for a minimum of 70 grams of protien a day. Hope that helps Like I said, others may vary. -
Question: has anyone had an entire month of little loss?
Babbs replied to MarceMonster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Tauni Wait....what?? You've ONLY been eating 500 calories up until recently? And now you want to increase to 700? You need to be at AT LEAST 800-900 calories now. Keep it that way until you are 6 months out, then try to increase to 1000. You will be surprised how increasing your calories ramps up the weight loss! -
Vape! Vape! Vape! That's how I quit before surgery! I'm now 15 months smoke free. I just tapered down until I was at 0 and then completely lost interest in the vape. I've said it before, I'm more proud of quitting smoking after 25 years than even having the surgery You can do it! Nothing worth doing is ever easy!

"Oh I've only lost..."
Babbs replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Atta girls! LOVE the attitudes about your losses! And you're all COMPLETELY right! It's not easy to not compare ourselves to others, but once you get past all that nonsense, it's so...freeing. It helps you continue to move forward with your own journey at your own pace without all the negativity. After all, I think 99% of this whole thing is attitude. A good attitude helps make us successful -

High protein, low fat and not enough veggies post sleeve surgery ?
Babbs replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have never payed attention to fat. I eat: Full fat cheese Real butter Full fat dressings I try to limit beef, but eat a lot of chicken, fish and pork. But when I do have beef, it's a nice cut of steak Just like on Atkins, I eat real food. No processed crap, VERY low sugar and real meat, veggies, low sugar fruit and dairy. The Protein and fat helps keep me satiated longer. And I am now a pound to goal, so it's obviously working for me. I may have to tweak a few things on maintenance, but we will see And I eat salad all the time?? I can't believe that surgeon said you won't eat salads?! -
How much does my stomach hold? Not feeling "the full feeling" at all.
Babbs replied to cindyluc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Fluids go right through your little sleeve. It's also very numb from being cut and stapled, so you won't have a lot of sensation. Once you start pureed foods, you'll feel it when you can only eat a couple bites. I had the same worries until I went to pureed. I even wondered if the doctor even did the surgery, lol. -
Running or walking after Gastric Sleeve
Babbs replied to Biloxigirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally found that I was losing more consistently when I started running as opposed to strength training and walking. At least that was my experience. At one point I was running 3 miles every other day, but have had to back off a little recently due to an injury. Hoping to get back up to 3 miles again soon! -
There is something called the Nioxin System that you can get at some beauty salons. After my hair loss started AGAIN at about 10 months, I bought some from my hairdresser and it has slowed and almost stopped now. It smells mediciney, but it seems to work so I don't care! It's also a little spendy at $50 for the 3 part system, but worth it. My hair is actually starting to look a little healthier again, too!

Is this even logical?
Babbs replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All surgeons are different. Like someone said, weren't you aware of this pre surgery? Didn't you have a pre surgery NUT appointment? For the record, I was on liquids for 6 weeks because of GERD. I much rather would have been able to eat pureeds for 8 weeks! It's all a matter of perspective. But I also understand it doesn't make it any less annoying -
Please call your surgeon first thing tomorrow morning. In the mean time, keep trying to get your fluids in. I don't like the idea that you were doing fine before, and now all of the sudden you're having these issues. I always worry about a stricture when I hear that! Keep us posted!

I HATE HATE HATE when surgeons throw out random numbers like that! How are you going to feel if you don't lose 80 pounds by 6 months?? Like a failure, right? It just all depends. Age, gender (men lose faster), starting BMI (the higher the BMI, the more lost as a rule). To put it in perspective, I lost 83 pounds in A YEAR. I know others who lost more and met their goal way before me. Try not to get into the trap of comparing your weight loss to others. It will do nothing but cause you endless frustration and de motivate you. As long as you are losing at a fairly steady rate, it's all good

MEGA Stall - Need some tips to break it
Babbs replied to MommyMeghan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My opinion? Up your calories to 1200 -1300. We weigh about the same, and I notice when I'm not eating enough I stall out. Especially with as much as you (and I) are exercising. And what @@Inner Surfer Girl said.... -
Freaking out about NSAIDs
Babbs replied to tssiemer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have mentioned in another thread that this no NSAID thing has really been a pain in my ass. I don't have chronic pain like you, but a recent running injury and some major dental work has proven stressful because they will only give me so much pain medicine, and when I try to gently remind them I can't take Advil because of the surgery, I SWEAR they look at me like I'm drug seeking. Someone suggested having my surgeon call them and get involved, and next time I will. I will not suffer another painful dental procedure without some kind of stronger pain meds. Period. -
@@Smye I don't have much to say except I'm very sorry you are going through this. How hard this whole thing must be for you! Please keep going to counseling, even without her, to work through what I know must be terrible pain. Hang in there, buddy. We are all here for you!
