Can I drink more than just water for my 64oz of fluids
Babbs replied to kaysunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, it is not true. Although obviously Water is best, fluids that can count are as follows: Broth/soups Popsicles coffee (not recommended) Tea (herbal) Protein drinks/shakes juice (low/no sugar) Gatorade Gelatin Ice tea Etc..... You get the idea. Almost EVERYTHING has water in it. Even the food we eat. A study has recently come out saying the 8 glasses a day is a bunch of bull. BUT for us who have had WLS, it is VERY imortant to stay hydrated because of our tiny tummies. I would try to get your 64 oz with at least half of that water. That's what I've done for a year. Half water, half the above. I should probably drink more water though -
Please tell me it gets better. =(

You're an ER nurse. You know best that it takes time to heal. Of course it gets better! Give it time. I look at the first month after surgery like going through labor. It really sucks as you're going though it, but the end result is worth it and soon you forget all about how horrible it was -
How do you feel about 'fat shaming'
Babbs replied to Tootsietoes's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
People who smoke know it's bad for them. People who are fat know they are fat. It does NO GOOD to shame, berate, make fun of anyone because nothing will he done about it until THEY are good and ready to do something about it. So people need to keep their damn mouths shut and let people live their already hard enough lives and treat each other with respect and dignity. -
Worried? Scared? Feel like jumping out of my own skin!
Babbs replied to Yadi Perez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The odds of you dying at a fairly young age from complications of obesity are much greater than you dying on the table. The complication rate for the sleeve is 1%. Risk vs benefit. You're going to be just fine. You'll wake up and be so relieved it's done and over with and you can start your new life as a healthier person. -
Miserable and depressed

Why haven't you lost weight? You sound like you would be a PERFECT candidate for a bypass revision. I think you really need to look into that. -
Star Jones weight gain (80 lbs)

And listen to @@proudgrammy! She's a perfect example of being successful at maintaining her weight after a few years. She knows what she's talking about! -
Yippee!! You're doing so great! I know how you feel. I had a running injury that kept me out 8f the gym for a week. I couldn't WAIT to get back to it!

Yay! In my opinion, swimming is the most perfect excerise. Cardio and resistance without all the stress on the joints. I really should join a place that has a pool....

@@bellabloom Get your stricture fixed. The idea of the surgery is to get healthy and continue to eat and be healthy, not to see how skinny you can get. You can't possibly feel well at this point when you can barely eat protien and when you do eat certain things you throw them up. That's no way to live. Go talk to someone about your fears about gaining, too. They can help you navigate through getting to a healthy point in your maintenence process. It's time to take care of yourself. -

I always have to laugh to myself when someone who is at goal or below basically is proclaiming the beginnings of or already have a full on eating disorder and posters are always like "Wow you look great! Keep up the great work!" Enjoy the restriction?? She has a STRICTURE that keeps her from eating properly for God's sake! SMH -
@@anna9/15 My favorite story was of a gal on here that was early out and her husband kept saying "What smells like sh*t?" LOL
-
My mom died from congestive heart failure after a heart attack a couple years prior at 69. My dad died from a heart attack at 56. Even though I only had 85 pounds to lose, at 47 years old I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and put on medication for the first time in my life. That was all I needed to make the decision. The odds of me dying an early death due to heart problems outweighed the 1% chance of complications from the surgery. Now at 148 pounds, my blood pressure is perfect and I now have a better chance of living longer than both of my parents did. Totally worth it.
-
I started at 235, and it took me a little over a year to lose 85 pounds and reach goal (although now i'm wanting to lose 5-10 more, which may take me another year, lol) Honestly, I used to feel a little like you did sometimes, but then I finally got tired of stressing over it. What's the hurry? Just keep doing what you need to do and you'll get there. At almost 13 months out, it matters very little to me how long it took me to get there now. In that year I learned a lot about excerise and nutrition. More imortantly, I learned how to be patient and persistent to get where I wanted to be. It builds character

@@Savedbygrace22 Wow. You're 18 months out and only eating 800 calories? I would stall for decades on that!
-
It's a sort of a stall. I honestly can't believe you're 7 months out and this is the first time you've experienced this?? Lucky. This happens to me almost monthly. Heck, weekly lately!
-
I only really went into ketosis (getting the really bad breath) the first few weeks after surgery. Obviously I've lost 87 pounds, so I've been in ketosis off and on for a year, but no more dragon breath, lol. I do notice it's more prevalent in the first weeks of surgery with posters.
-
Honestly? If it helps you get that last 20 off, then go for it. Just remember that as soon as you discontinue taking it, appetite comes back and you may regain any weight lost unless you continue with your healthy eating habits. I've taken it before and been fairly successful, losing 45 pounds before I decided I didn't want to take it anymore. I think I'd been taking it for like 6 months, and I'd heard prolonged use wasn't ideal. Of course I gained all the weight back, and then some. It definitely curbs the appetite and gives you energy, although the effects do wear off over time. And the jittery side effect wears off after a few days, too.
-
I have always been too scared to try medication because it would have to be long term. That's why I'm wondering if anyone here has ever tried medication? My assumption is that it might be somewhat successful but then anytime I am not on the medication I will just put on weight again. And I think you are correct in that assumption

Ah. Gotcha.

I agree with the above. Find a bariatric surgeon who can recommend a WLS friendly doctor for the clearance. After you have the surgery, then you can continue to see your own primary....if anything just to prove him wrong and educate him about WLS. Also, educate yourself. There is a lot of mis information and pre conceived notions about WLS. People have a tendency to parrot what they "hear" about it, not the actual facts. Yes, even physicians. The more you are educated, the better for you to make the best decision. And just for the record, the EXPECTED weight loss statistics is 60-65% of excess weight lost, not 5-10%. And I see most people go beyond that.

Have you been checked for a stricture?

I would be having Christmas without my father in law. Why put up with that crap?

Happens to me ALL THE TIME. So ironic need a SMALLER size in something, lol.
