  1. Yup. Aside from some dairy in the form of cheese (I HAVE to have my cheese) I eat pretty much paleo. I was very strict up until I'd lost about 75% of my weight in about 8 or 9 months, then I incorporated a little bread and crackers in the form of whole grains into my diet. I limit it, and don't do Pasta at all and very little rice. I kept it pretty simple. Prepare meats or fish in various ways, and salads or green veggies for dinner. shakes or eggs for Breakfast. Tuna, chicken or seafood salads, or lunch meat roll ups for lunch. Nuts, cheese or Jerky for Snacks. Repeat. Like I said, pretty boring and simple. But it works for me
  2. After what I've seen on these forums for the past year and a half, I think therapy should be absolutely mandatory for most people having WLS. That's honestly not a slam on anyone in particular, but I have seen too many people get these surgeries who are woefully unprepared for the emotional and even physical aspects of it, and are destined to fail. Sad, really.

    Settle a bet...3 week stall

For the majority, it comes right at 3 weeks POST OP. Some after a month, some at 2 weeks, some (although rare) not at all. If you haven't seen this info, this is why it happens: A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    Filled with regret

I've said it before.... If you given birth, the first 6 weeks after surgery is kind of like that. Going through the labor and delivery is hard and it sucks, but in the end it's all worth it and you forget all about the pain. Well, mostly
  5. Ha! That's not scary at all....

    Noises from stomach? LOUD?

Yeah, it's BAD the first few months! I've noticed it doesn't do it much anymore....at least as loud!

Good. Once submitted, I was approved within 2 days. I hope you have the same experience!

    Wedding bands?

I've already had mine resized once. Now they need to be resized again. I haven't been wearing them for fear of losing them until I can get it done again. I suppose I could buy some of those ring snuggies...
  9. @@Margie122 It's all a learning curve. Old habits are hard to break! Most of us ate like such piggies pre op, we have to re learn what our "full" is, portion sizes, how fast we are eating (I still eat too fast). It takes some practice and a few mistakes, but you'll get there!

    High Protein Pasta

I'm curious too, actually! And I agree with @@OutsideMatchInside, have you tried zucchini noodles first for.your Pasta fix? They are really good! I just looked that pasta up. It's made with vegetarian ingredients (besides egg whites). The stats aren't bad at all, actually. Now if it doesn't taste like cardboard, they may be a winner! Otherwise I'll stick to my zucchini pasta!

    Confused!

Like everyone said, every plan is different. I didn't have a pre op diet, either. Clear liquids the day before, and nothing after midnight. I was thanking my lucky stars! There is a bariatric clinic run by Dr Matthew Weiner in Michigan that emphasizes a more plant based diet after the initial few months of protien. He claims that although getting protien in the first few months after surgery is important, it's not as important afterwords. He believes eating more veggies and fruits are the key to keeping the weight off. Obviously his ideas are a little controversial, but his clinic is very well known and he has wonderful, informative videos on YouTube. I highly recommend them. I am leaning more towards that way of eating now, too. Maybe your surgeon leans more toward a plant based diet, also?
  12. I'm over a year post-op and i haven't vomited once. I had two bouts of dry heaving the day after my surgery and nothing approaching vomiting since then. Not everyone reacts the same way to overeating or eating the "wrong" foods. Ditto here. Haven't puked once.

    My wedding rings during surgery

@ And what, pray tell, is all this "incorrect information" @@proudgrammy posts? She had her personal source, and posted the info. She's one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum, and I personally have found all her posts positive and very helpful throughout my journey. I'm sorry, when was your surgery? Oh, last month. Well, you must be an expert on all things bariatric! I'm sure you know MUCH MORE than the veterans in these forums!
  14. Patience, Grasshopper. I agree with the above....next week! Then you'de better shout it from the mountain tops when it happens! Just fyi, it took me about 4 months to get there, so as our stats are the same, you're way ahead of the game
  15. I have noticed this to be a pattern with long term veterans (2-5 years out from surgery). Not significant gains, like 10-20 pounds. Is this something I can expect after a certain amount of time post sleeve? Doesn't it seem the norm? And when DO you just chalk it up to normal adjustments in weight and OMG I NEED TO DO SOMETHING? This interests me.....

    Two Similar Threads

Yup. Perfectly said. I have always been a fairly confident person, fat or thin. It's pretty foreign to me when others allow people to treat them like crap. Eleanor Roosevelt said it best: No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
  19. @@tcrehm Funny, I have 7 incisions? So weird how surgeons do things differently. @@Dub Mine are pretty small and faded now after 13 months out, but definitely still noticeable. My biggest one is on my right where they took out the stomach. Not gonna lie, that one hurt the most! I'd show you a picture of my scars, but nobody wants to see my stomach

    They seemed sane...Dating horror stories

I sure am glad I don't have to worry about dating after being with the same guy for 28 years (we were 20 when we met, so not a lot of dating history for either of us)! Especially at my age. Some of your stories are hilarious but sad seeing some of the pickens out there! Funny story about me and my husband. He worked with my sister who is 5 years older than me, and used to flirt with her shamelessly. Because he was so much younger than her and not her type, she suggested he take me out on a date since I was new in town and didn't know a lot of people. So we met on a blind date set up by my sister. And the rest is history....

    When did you introduce carbs?

You want the weight to come off as steadily and as quickly as possible? Stay away fromy bread, rice, and Pasta until you are at least at 75% of excess weight lost, then you can incorporate a few in slowly. Besides, right now they have no nutritional value to you with as little real estate you have in your stomach. You should only make room for Protein and veggies (when you're cleared for them) right now. I waited 8 months to incorporate bread, and even then it's rare and only whole grain so it's good for me.I still don't do pasta and very little rice.
  23. @@Nomorethickchick Keep us posted about what your doctor says. I'm super curious.....
  24. LOL! Have you been watching me?? You forgot: Move the scale around the bathroom floor and weigh in different areas until you're satisfied with the CORRECT weight.
