    Post op struggle.

You have such little real estate in your tummy right now, you need to get the best bang for your buck from every bite of food. Pasta serves no purpose to you nutritionally right now. Protein, protein, protein! It's crucial for healing and maintaining your muscle that will be lost as you lose weight.
  2. When is your surgery? And congrats on your virgin post! Post more!

    Loose skin fear!

Unfortunately, at 280 pounds, you will have some loose skin. I'm not being rude, it's just a reality. Most of us have excess skin to contend with. Some more, some less. You may be able to exercise some areas to tone them up because you're young enough, but honestly there is only so much we can do sometimes. Sometimes our skin just gets so stretched out from the losing and gaining, there's no going back. But there is always surgery I wasn't too concerned about it. I just wanted to be healthy again. Now that I am, I am considering a tummy tuck in a year. Even if it doesn't happen, I'm thrilled with my results and how I look and feel! The tummy tuck would just be the icing on the cake Good luck to you! I really hope the skin issue isn't enough to deter you from surgery! I really believe you would be happy with your results! Skin and all!
  4. Yes! Sometimes it takes a while for some people to ease into certain foods, but yes. I personally never had any issues with any type of food really, so I can eat pretty much anything and always could. I feel completely normal at 14 months out except I get full much faster.
  5. I'll admit, half the time don't see the designation until I've already opened my fat trap and typed up a response and hit post. I try to be mindful if it's a Guys only thread. Unless both start posting. And it gets fun. Then all bets are off

    My hair :(

Not a lot you can do to make it stop unfortunately. You could slow it down a little by taking Biotin or getting some Nioxin. Just part of the process I'm afraid
  7. I don't think her husband and her want anyone watching. Or DO they??
  8. Millennials. I vote they are millennials. And before everyone jumps on me about that comment, I have 2. I know the attitudes well. Just sayin'. Some will say that certain generations are more entitled than others. That was my point. But you are correct in saying it can be a person of any age that can feel entitled. And yes, lack of personal responsibility and blaming everyone else for your problems or mistakes seems to be the norm these days. I don't think it's age, I think it's entitlement. And emotional intelligence. Venting is fine, whining is OK. But at the end of it all, one must take accountability and OWNERSHIP for the part they play in their own destiny. Not happy with how thing are going? Cry, moan and fix. Period.

  10. I love it when people post their issues, other people don't give them the validation then want and they erase it. JEEEZUS. As I just stated in the "Giving Up" thread. Some people just LOVE playing the consummate victim.....

    Giving up

I missed it too, darnit! He just edited all his posts and his name because apparently he was embarrassed by what he was posting or didn't like the responses. I'll go with the latter. You'll find that when someone starts off a post with a defeatist yet aggressive attitude (AKA passive aggressive), they usually aren't exactly open to constructive criticism, and will leave in a huff. I can spot the "you'd better feel sorry for me because I like playing the consummate victim" poster a mile away. And it never ends well......
  12. TOTAL NSV! You go, girl

    Emotional Breakdown!

Why would we judge you? It's very, very normal to be scared to death before surgery. Especially a life altering surgery like this! We all felt scared, anxious, excited, sad, happy.....you name it! The good thing is that this is a very safe surgery with a very low complication rate. Odds are you're going to be just fine. Be honest, you're just upset you'll have to wait a few more weeks to have sexy time with hubby again, aren't you??
  14. Once you get to more "solid" foods, you'll feel it. You're still very swollen and have cut nerves from the surgery. Plus all that liquidy type food just goes right through the sleeve. I could drink from day one with no pain or restriction and had the same fears. Once I started to eat real food, I totally felt the restriction. You will too, don't worry!
  15. Holy overreaction, Batman. You've obviously missed a couple of appointments. It puts everyone else out when appointments are missed. It's common practice for doctors offices to charge a fee for missed appointments, and their prerogative to stop service if they feel the person is no showing too much for appointments. It's not because you're obese. They deal with obese people every day! It's just common courtesy to show up for your appointments when you're scheduled, or give them plenty of notice when you can't. Just don't miss any other appointments, don't take it so personally, and everything will be fine.
  16. Congrats! And can I just say how much I love Dolly?? She's my hero!

    Stuck stuck stuck!

This is so great and so true. I took me over a year to lose 85 pounds, and I feel I'm more prepared to tackle maintenance at this point because I had plenty of time to educate myself about diet, proper nutrition and excersise. I had time to prepare myself for the challenges of actually maintaining my weight once I got to goal. That's not including all the emotional aspects of it, because life doesn't turn into this magical kingdom where everything is perfect just because we are no longer obese. Just like losing weight, maintenance takes work...even more so...and sometimes I think we get into such a hurry to get there, we aren't prepared for the challenges of it.
  18. Yes I do. I'm working on it. I'm right below goal. Would like to drop a few more lbs before officially going into maintenance. How are you eating now Babbs? I know you just went into maintenance. @@AlanaRN I'm actually in the same boat you are....I'm wanting to lose a few more pounds. So I technically haven't hit maintenance quite yet. I'm still eating to lose, basically. But I've upped my calories a bit (1300) and will have some whole grain bread with a sandwich every now and then, and occasionally a treat like a cookie or alcohol. So I'm slooooowly going into maintenance mode while still trying to lose a few more. Does that make sense? The weight is not wanting to seem to come off at this point, though, so I may be done for now

    Halloween ????

@@heather5565 Oh my gosh! Someone who shares my love of cereal!! I ADORED Cereal pre op. Ate it for Breakfast, ate it for lunch, ate it for dinner, ate it for a snack (not always of course, but always an easy "go to" when I didn't feel like cooking). Probably why I got up to 235 pounds, lol. I really miss it. And the more sugary, the better. I was eyeing the Count Chocula in the store the other day with fondness....
  20. Some weeks yes, most weeks no. The average is 1-2 pounds a week after the initial larger losses in the first few weeks.

    carbs?

I heard a great acronym once.... Eating only things that come from this: FOG: Farm Ocean Ground I try to eat like that 95% of the time! That doesn't mean some processed stuff doesn't cross my lips And I get about 70-80 grams of carbs a day now that I'm at goal. Most come from fruits and veggies. I will have some whole grain bread once in a while, also.

    How to count calories

I think if your going to be serious about counting calories, you'de be better off just measuring your "bite of this and bite of that". So instead, 2 TBSP of this and 1 tsp of that. Yeah, there will have to be math :/ I really hate math. Great question!
  23. I'm sensing a pattern here...... Generally minimize processed carbs, eat moderate carbohydrate. I don't do refined carbs unless it's a treat. Very mindful of any processed/refined carbs (don't do them). I pretty much don't do simple/white/refined carbs on a daily basis--bread, potatoes, rice, pasta--I haven't had but a bite of rice since surgery, no Pasta and maybe 4 slices of bread Eat them after protein do try to avoid foods that are highly processed and full of added carbs though. Those of us just entering maintenance really need to pay attention to these answers...and apparently carbs
  24. @@AlanaRN You've got to think about maintenence. How long can you maintain the way you currently are eating? If you don't feel deprived, then Kudos to you! But if you feel a bit deprived, that's really no way to live. That's the ol' DIET mentality. You've gotta live life, too. The rest of your life is a looong time!
