Can I just say I hate it when people ask a fucking question and then act like people are being judgmental when they answer it?? Smoke your cigarettes to your little hearts content. Enjoy your higher chance of cancer, heart disease, ulcers, COPD... It's a good thing you had weight loss surgery to become healthier, at least! And a doctor with a "non judgemental" answer about smoking?? Good luck with that. I smoked for 25 years, and EVERYTHING that ailed me was blamed on smoking by my doctors. They don't judge smokers, they just present facts according to science and research. If you want to call that judgemental, so be it. And if you've got a doctor who doesn't encourage you to quit, well I'm afraid they aren't doing a very good job of being a doctor. So just stop asking the question in a public forum where you're afraid of being judged when you already know what the damn answer is. Jeez.

Dangerous Diet Myth #2
Babbs replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
One thing I've noticed after being on this forum for a year and a half is there seems to be a common thread with people who either stop losing or start gaining: They've stopped following the protien first rule, and seem to be filling their pouch/sleeve with useless calories like crackers, Cookies chips, and yes, popcorn. As a once in while snack, okay. But as pointed out above, nuts, Jerky and cheese will serve someone much better to lose weight and keep the weight off, plus giving you more of a nutritional bang for your buck. -
When you say a "problem" with it...what's the problem? Stomach ache? Vomiting? Stuck feeling? I love steak too Just upset stomach...almost like it was too hard to digest. Honestly was the only food that ever gave me an issue. I haven't thrown up once since surgery 14 months ago
-
I eat it all the time! Tri tip, mostly. I did have some problems with it early out (4-6 months), so I would only get the most tender cuts. Now I seem to handle it much better. I love me a good steak!

Making use of the now
Babbs replied to 2goldengirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@2goldengirl I've got nothing to add but what a great post! You've got the attitude that will help make you successful. No whining and moaning, just taking matters into your own hands and getting er done! I'm excited to see the great things you will achieve with your upcoming surgery! -
MFP lies to me all the time. It tells me "If I keep eating like the way I did today, I'll weigh xx amount in 5 weeks!" I have never hit the amount it saId I would in 5 weeks. LIES!!

I always kind of forgot it was you, honestly! But then certain posts you would make would remind me -
I concur with fibroids. That's the reason I had everything scooped out. One of the best things I ever did besides this surgery.

Weight loss has just STOPPED!
Babbs replied to crissylynn82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you know how many calories and Protein you're getting a day? Do you track that? I would pin point how many calories and protein and carbs you're getting a day, and hone in on how many calories you're burning a day with exercise. In my case, too much exercise slows my progress. Always has. You have to make sure your calories are supporting the amount you exercise, or the weight loss will stop. And I concur with OutsideMatchinside...cut that stuff out for a couple weeks and I'll be willing to bet you'll lose again. So in short, cut back on workouts, up your calories a little, but ONLY eat protein and veggies. Lots of Water. I'll bet that will work! -
If you want to just eyeball when you don't have access to measuring stuff, good ol' Weight Watchers has always had their guides to measurements using your hands. Since you aren't in wieght loss mode anymore, they may come in handy when you just want to measure your portions and don't have access to the actual tools. Because lets face it, who wants to carry around measuring cups, scales and spoons?? Anyway, I'm suggesting measuring everything so you don't risk over eating and getting sick!

Very interesting dialogue in this thread. Thanks to all. Makes me think I have some issues with "skinny" I haven't begun to examine. Hmmm. Let's face it, folks. It's just fuckin' weird to lose this much weight in such a short period of time after (for most of us) a lifetime of obesity. And we're undergoing this enormous physical and psychological transformation in an era when people of all ages are obsessed with physical appearance. WLS in the selfie era -- it definitely has some challenges. Right on! (I sound like a child of the 70's, don't I?) I have to admit, I went into this thread reading one thing, and came out understanding another. That's why I love these forums. Well, it's kind of a love/hate. LOL.

I probably drink way more coffee than I should, which is probably one of the reasons I still have to take omeprazole daily, even though I'm 14 months out now. I can't help myself! I've already given up so much by having this surgery, I couldn't bring myself to give up coffee too! Though I was a good girl and didn't drink any coffee those first 30 days post-op. I started out with one cup a day with lots of cream at the 30 day mark. But now I'm back up to 3 cups a day, sometimes 4! I'm the same way, Jamie! And on top of that, I drink it with that terrible for us flavored creamer! But I've still lost weight doing it from almost day 1 (well a month out) because I add it to MFP, so there! I try to limit to 2 cups, and I did for a whole year. But i'm slowly sneaking in another cup every once in a while. I can't have chocolate, so a girl has to have SOME vices!

Or drink alcohol??

Yeah, that's pretty weird. My nurse's were nothing but kind and supportive. How rude and unprofessional of those nurses! I feel bad for you! On the other hand, use the story about the gal that checked you in as motivation! It's true, if someone was not ready for the surgery, it absolutely is possible to gain all the weight back. I know a gal that has, also. Good luck to you and heal well!

Babbs replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I have never thrown up, either. And in all fairness, I've always had a touch of IBS. The sleeve just made it a little more unpredictable. So 1 outta 2 ain't bad! -
It would be a problem. I see people with anxiety over this whole process who don't even have an anxiety disorder. Just go through the threads about stalls and you'll see my point. This is a very stressful process. It literally turns your whole life upside down, and if someone isn't prepared emotionally to handle it, they can easily struggle and even fail. The shrinks job is to pin point any red flags to him that may cause someone to struggle and not be successful. I would take advantage of the additional therapy to be as prepared as you can be so you can rock this surgery!

Is this the thread where someone wants validation to drink too early post surgery and gets mad when they don't get it? I thought so.
-
I find this very sad.... You don't know what you're missing!
-
Honestly? I would have scrapped the toast and just had 1 egg and piece of bacon or 2. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

This morning, after my morning coffee, I felt it coming on and knew I had to run to the bathroom.... Yeah, I didn't make it. Luckily, I work from home, so the only people who saw and smelled my poopy pants were my 3 Basset Hounds. You are and continue to be an inspiration to me. Like you, I wouldn't change a darn thing. Except my poopy pants. -
Confession: I think I'm officially a bad sleever.
Babbs replied to Sara51692's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
On don't think you are a "bad" sleever. I think you are a normal sleever. Every single one of us has struggled with the things you talked about. Nobody is immune. I just have to take things one day, sometimes one minute at a time. Just get back to basics, even if you just do one small thing like make sure to always eat protien first, and build from there. You've lost 70 pounds, we know you can do this! -
Can we talk about Halloween candy?
Babbs replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My kids are grown, but we decided to give out the crappiest candy we could think of to give out. There's a bag that has Tootsie rolls and pops, along with some other "meh" candy. I figured if I broke down and had a Tootsie Pop, no harm There will be no Snickers or Kit Kat's in my home, dammit! -
