Seeing large amounts of food make me feel sick
Babbs replied to PayItForward's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My husband had RNY 9 years ago. I remember him saying one time while we were out to dinner how he couldn't believe how much people could eat, including me. It wasn't a derogatory statement by any means, and I didn't take it that way at all. He was just surprised by the sheer PORTIONS of food us "normals" could eat in a sitting. Now that I've had surgery, I can totally relate. It really is amazing how little food we actually need to survive and thrive! -

Sautéed spinach/zucchini noodles
Babbs replied to sarahbethemails's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think if they are soft enough, you should be good. Just watch the Fiber in the spinach. It may give you an upset tummy. -
You look incredible and are a true inspiration! I've slacked off a little on my work out routine, and you have inspired me to ramp things up! Thank you!

That was YOUR program. All programs are different. And some rely on protein shakes for a while to get enough protein because they can't get enough from food alone. I was one of those. I still have a Protein shake almost every morning for Breakfast at 15 months out. Not because I can't get enough from food at this point, but because I find it easier for my routine. I'm below goal, and my blood work is textbook. So there is no need to tell people what they do and do not 'need', mmmmkay?

Wanting to meet successful patients after a year
Babbs replied to anthonyb's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi! I had surgery on 8/22/14, and have lost over 90 pounds! My surgery weight was 235, and now I'm 143-144 depending on the day Other than some complications with reflux, it's been pretty easy. I was a bit of a slow loser, but none of that matters at this point I'm just learning to live in maintenence, and that's a whole new experience. Congrats on your loss! I'm so happy I did it! -
Embarrassing Question - Managing Enuresis in the Hospital?
Babbs replied to wwboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a catheter the first day or so, so you may too. Otherwise, they will completely understand so you should really not be embarrassed to tell them at all. Like the nurses above said, they have seen it all -
One of my biggest fears since I had surgery is..
Babbs replied to kemahaney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry about stretching your sleeve. The stretchy part, or fundus, was cut out during the procedure. It would take years of systematic overeating to the point of vomiting to stretch it. It will naturally stretch a little as you heal with time, but will NEVER be what it was pre surgery. -
Regretting it already..(day 1)
Babbs replied to ZombieQueen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Regret is normal in the early stages because we generally feel like crapola. You just had major surgery. Pain and discomfort is to be expected after major surgery. Just remember this is only temporary. As you heal, things will start to look up. Just keep your eye on the prize and try to remember why you wanted to do this. -

Calling Anyone Who's Gained Serious Weight Down The Road?
Babbs replied to Cape Crooner's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Madam Reverie You don't know me either, but I remember your posts. They made me laugh. I think you dissappeared soon after my surgery on August of last year. I had actually asked someone where you had gone? Welcome back, and hope the forum helps give you the boost you need to get back on track! -
I still love my 49ers even though it's very painful this year....about as painful as long division!! 49rs are my team too! I can't believe I just proudly exclaimed that.... They are pretty embarrassing this year

Plateau at 3 weeks post-op. Seriously
Babbs replied to pokeyvenus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Completely and utterly normal. No, you're not doing anything wrong. And no, there's not much you can do about this particular stall but ride it out. It's supposed to happen. Here's why: A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. -
Pre surgery in hopes of pregnancy
Babbs replied to @lici@'s topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
You do know that most doctors advise waiting a year or two post surgery to get pregnant? -
Thank you for your service!

Okay guys, here's something that will REALLY blow your minds....cereal with milk. When I was about 7 months out, I decided to deviate from usual protien shake Breakfast and buy some Kashi Cereal. As I was pouring my half cup cereal and 1/4 cup milk, I felt like a REBEL. food and liquid? TOGETHER?? What ever will become of me? Oh, I ate the cereal. And it was good. I don't make a habit of it, though

Eating, Drinking, and Time In Between?

I think mine is 15 before and 30 after, and I adhere to it mostly. Especially the after. -

Not so fast.... Spouses being unsupportive at first is actually pretty normal. There's a lot of feelings going on I'm sure....fear for your health, fear of change, fear of the unknown. Talk to him about it. Educate him and help him understand what to expect leading up to and after surgery. Have him go to your appointments and support groups so he knows what's ahead. Maybe he will lighten up a little?

Real intimacy isn't sex, so how do you get there?
Babbs replied to OKCPirate's topic in Singles Forum
Can I just say (from a womans perspective) the fact that you reached out to find out how to become more intimate with your new love is sexy as hell? Actually WANTING to become more intimate with your partner is a good start to becoming intimate with her. She's a lucky gal!
