. Glad you don't like it What? I wasn't being a smart ass. I was just pointing out that the sleeve doesn't fail...the person attached to it does. If we work our plan and stick with the basics 90% of the time.... IE Protein first, minimal starchy carbs and processed crap and sugar, drinking plenty of Water and moving more, it will work for us. Too many people rely too much on the tool, as opposed to actually working the tool. Unfortunately, it won't always be as effective as it is in the beginning. That's when our good eating and excersise habits that we've (hopefully) cemented early on will really help get to goal and keep it off.
-
I don't like the term "sleeve failure". The sleeve doesn't fail us. We fail the sleeve.

Girl, you're ROCKING that bikini! Oh, to have your young, perky boobs again....sigh.
-
Funny thing is, this is the easiest part of the whole thing. It will happen before you know it. Then the real work begins.

The more starchy carbs and sugar you eat, the more you crave. You're going to have to basically wean yourself off of that stuff to stop the cravings. It's hard the first few days, but once you get past the hump, you won't crave the stuff anymore. Good advice above. Keep your sleeve filled protien and fluids. You won't have room for much of anything else Protien keeps you satisfied longer, too.

Has your Marriage Changed Since Surgery?
Babbs replied to Half of Bri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been with my husband for 28 years. I was normal size when we met, he was a little chubby. Like me, he struggled with his weight. Like me, he went up and down and up and down. He reached his highest weight in 2006 of 300 pounds. He had a gastric bypass, and lost 130 pounds. Nothing really changed, except I continued to struggle and diet and go up and down. Although I was very happy for him, I'll have to admit, I was a little jealous. I used to tell him he took the easy way. HA! Fast forward 9 years. I decide to get the sleeve. It was great having someone so supportive that understood what I was going through! Now almost 95 pounds later, he's incredibly happy for me....for us. We are healthy together (he's kept all but 20 pounds off for 9 years basically) I loved him thick, I love him thin. He loved me thick, and still loves me thin. He couldn't keep his hands off me before, and really can't keep his hands off me now Marriage or long term relationships are all about ebb and flow. People grow and change. Life happens. Life changes. Challenges come up. But as long as the two of you are communicating and respecting each other as individuals, anything can be overcome if you both just try. But it really does have to be a mutual effort. And because I just like this picture, here we are! -
The only carbs I had my first 8 months or so were from veggies, dairy and fruit. I mostly stayed away from starchy carbs like bread, rice and Pasta until I was 75% to goal. I tried to stay at around 50 grams. I still limit the starches now that I'm in maintenance, but have upped my overall carb count to match my Protein grams (70-100). Good job on your weight loss! You seem to be doing great!

In anticipation of eating a little more than usual, I plan on hitting the gym 5 days this week as opposed to my usual 3-4. I also have already planned a nice walk with my and my grown kids' dogs that evening after dinner. It's also supposed to snow Thanksgiving Day here, so we may play in the snow, too

Being sleeved 12/21! Lots of questions!
Babbs replied to amandasue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3 days seems a bit soon.... I was given my medications whole in the hospital. Never told to crush them. Loose skin happens. Not a whole lot you can do to prevent it unfortunately. May be able to tighten a little with exercise, but some areas may be too far gone for even that. Same with hair loss. You can try all the tricks of the trade, and you may minimize it, but you won't ever flat out prevent it. Your doctor will clear you for the more strenuous exercise other than walking. Usually around 6 weeks out. -
Your doctor should clear you after about 6 weeks or so. Don't try anything except walking until he clears you!

Opinion on pecans- nuts
Babbs replied to Rdsegobia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually stuck with the lower fat nuts....almonds, cashews, peanuts. Be mindful of the portion sizes, though, because they can add up calorie wise. Are you cleared for nuts yet? Also, I've never paid much attention to fat as a rule. I always follow a Paleo or Atkins type diet post op -
Almost everyone has gone through the "What have I done??" phase early out. It sucks at first. Hell, it sucks the first like 6 weeks. Keep doing what you need to do. No, you won't get all your fluids and Protein in at first. As a matter of fact, FLUIDS are most important right now. Do the very best you can to stay hydrated. People don't land in the hospital because they haven't gotten enough protein. It's ALWAYS because they are dehydrated. Just follow your doctors orders, be kind to yourself, and heal. You're going to do just fine

You're doing amazing! Your family, although I'm sure were proud of you before, must be even prouder of you! Here's to a long, happy life with your beautiful family!

Let me take a wild guess...she was either overweight or obese. For some weird reason I've yet to figure out, the people who struggle with their weight seem to be the least supportive of the surgeries. And if she's not, she's just being intrusive and ignorant. Pay no mind.

Have You Convinced Anyone Else To Have The Surgery?
Babbs replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a friend that is easily 350lbs, and has been obese her entire life (she's 49). She has had nothing but feet, ankle and knee problems lately, and is going to under go a whole knee replacement next week. She knows I had the surgery, and has seen my success on Facebook. I struggled for a while whether to ask her if she ever considered it, as losing weight would eliminate or at least decrease most of the health issues she has. In the end, I decided against it. I'm sure she sees how it's helped me, and is able to make her own conclusions about WLS and ultimately decide for herself whether it's right for her. I just always find it ironic that some people who have difficulty with the "major surgery" and "drastic" aspect of WLS end up needing drastic surgeries to repair the damage to their bodies that being obese caused. -
Weight loss is not a Fluid process. If you put it on a graph, it would look more like steps of stairs than a downward slope...down, up, flat. Fluctuations are normal for the reasons stated above. Now if you know you haven't been following your plan when your are further out and basically eating too much of the wrong things, then you will know at that point if it's just normal fluctuations or what you've been eating. It's a balancing act of sorts

Ask your surgeon. I'm sure he will tell you to follow your plan. Stop worrying about dessert. Your priority right now is protien and fluids, not dessert. Find some soft protien to chew for Thanksgiving instead. For the record, those cravings will subside as soon as you start real food. I would also suggest you stay away from sugar as much as you can to minimize the cravings for more, or you will struggle with hunger constantly. The secret sauce to success with this surgery is Protein, not Desserts.

Looking great!! Beautiful tummy! We have similar stats, and similar issues post weight loss (tummy, inner thighs). Although I can overlook my thighs, I do plan on having my tummy done sometime next year. Hoping my results turn out as great as yours!
-
Love it!!

I concur with @purz59. You need to eat more. Every time I would stall, I would increase my calories and it would always work. Do you track your calories and protien? Excersise? Drink your fluids?
-
@ I used to think the same thing. How is it physically possible to eat enough to gain weight!? Here's an example. I'm 15 months out, and for the first time since I've been sleeved, I've been having some personal family issues, and although I am usually tried and true and stick to my plan 90% of the time, the stress got to me and I wanted to EAT. Yeah, I know. Old habits die hard. Anyways, I went to this deli. It had a sandwich called "The Gobbler". Thanksgiving dinner in a sandwich. You know, the works...stuffing, turkey, cranberry, mayo. Yummo. I even did the responsible thing and looked up the calories....750. I don't even want to know the carb count. So what's a bariatric patient to do? Order it, of course! I ate a quarter of it. I was so full! Then I ate a quarter more a little later. Then another quarter. By days end, I had eaten the whole sandwich. All 750 calories and a gazillion carbs. That's the kind of stuff that will become habit if you don't watch it. And by "watch it" I mean really get to the core of why I want to grab the first comfort food as soon as things go wrong in my life. It's a work in progress. I'll get there

The "You don't need WLS" talk
Babbs replied to IJustWant2BeALoser's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every single one of us has heard it. Even from so called "medical professionals". Most people are woefully misinformed about WLS. They rely on gossip and hearsay. If you want to deal with the ignorant and misinformed and wish to educate them, by all means tell people. If not, don't say a word. I used to tell anyone who would listen. Now at 15 months out, I frankly am tired of having to explain myself to people I barely know, so I just omit the fact when someone asks how I lost the weight. All of my friends and family know, and have been nothing by supportive because I think they know better, lol. Like I said, the choice is yours. I found telling friends and family was a motivator for me to get to goal and stay there. Not everyone feels that way, and that's cool. You do you. Good luck with your upcoming surgery! -
I'M NOT EVEN HUNGRY BUT EVERYTHING LOOKS SO GOOD!?!
Babbs replied to Glogyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm watching my weight. I'm really not hungry. I ate before I came. My tummy isn't feeling right. I'm doing a liquid cleanse. I had a huge breakfast/lunch/dinner. I'll just have a drink today. I'm just in the mood for a cup of soup. I'm more a "f**k off and mind your own business" girl, myself. I like the cut of your jib
