Okay, first of all just breath. It's all going to be okay. I promise. What you're feeling is completely normal. I saw the title of your post, and knew you were very early out, because ALL those posts are when people are very early out. That's how normal it is! You just had major surgery, you're having your period, your life is now turned upside down, and you can't eat right now. Who wouldn't feel like sh*t about things?? There's lots of hormones involved. Female hormones, and the hormones dumped during surgery and subsequent fat loss. The scale isn't moving because it's just needing a break from the losses you've experienced. Happens to everyone. Really! If you continue to work your program, drink your fluids and work on getting your Protein, you will lose more weight. I GUARANTEE you this is not it for you. If it is, I will eat my hat. And I have a tiny tummy, so I don't even think it would go down well. That's how sure I am you are going to continue to lose doing what you're supposed to do Just hang in there. It gets better as you heal and each day goes by. Soon you will look back on this moment feeling happier, healthier, and thinner and it will all be a distant memory.

It's nothing you're doing, so don't worry. Just normal fluctuations. I've had a 1-2 pound fluctuation since my surgery 16 months ago. It's hormones, Water, who knows what else.I would also gain a pound when I would stall, then subsequently lose it when the stall ended. As early out as you are, it's not physically possible for you to eat enough to gain 2 pounds. Now me? I KNOW when it's just a normal fluctuation and when it's me just being piggy

Embrace the Stall
Babbs replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
True enough. But I've been the "new kid on the block" in enough different situations to recognize the pattern of the newest people to seemingly ALL make the same mistake, do the same thing, etc. before becoming more familiar with the setting. I was just extrapolating those experiences to the comment that "Newbies never change." That's all. No offence meant. Understood -
Feeling Guilty About Not Telling My Obese Friends
Babbs replied to sleevedup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is the age of information bombardment. I guarantee your friend knows there's these procedures out there for her if need be. I totally agree with @@Miss Mac. Wait until after your surgery, and when she sees the changes in you, then you can decide to bring it up to her or not. Keep us posted on your upcoming surgery! -

Embrace the Stall
Babbs replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@ShadowCub67 No offense, but you know you're a newbie, also? I don't care if you've done 50 years of research. Until you've actually had the surgery, what you think you know goes out the window. It's kind of like the people who say they know all about how to be a parent because they're a nanny. I mean, I'm 16 months out and still don't know sh*t. -
Unfortunately, the numbers on the scale are a priority to most. You of all people know the predominant posts and questions on these forms are about stalls. I'm just saying I find it odd that surgeons and NUTS don't really discuss it. After all, the main purpose of the surgery is to lose weight, so of course people are going to be hyper focused on that part of it. But alas, I guess it will continue to be up to you to educate people about the reality of stalls with your awesome advice

I'm tired of this bullsh*t. Vaping helped me quit smoking after 25 years. I only vaped for a few months, and no longer vape or smoke, but I'll take vaping over smoking any day. It is FACT that vaping is safer than smoking. People are going to do it regardless.
-
I was talking more along the lines of the surgeon or NUT just saying something like this: "You're going to lose quite a bit of weight the first couple to a few weeks after surgery, then it will probably come to a halt for a while because of these reasons". Also, explaining that you aren't going to lose 100 pounds in a month. I guess i'm just asking why they don't tell these patients who don't do years of research before hand (which is most people) about REALISTIC weight loss expectations and the 3 week stall. How hard would that be? Why do we see so many people with these crazy expectations of weight loss who think the second the scale doesn't move something is immediately wrong? I can tell you for certain that when the information given has to do with weight loss, they will listen.
-
Something I'm curious about. Did any of you're NUTS or surgeons talk to you about stalls? Specifically the 3 week stall? Seems the only way we learned about it was on forums like these. They either don't know about it, or don't bother to mention it to many people. I really wish they would warn people to ease the panic that sets in when it ultimately happens.

Has anyone experience losing too much weight too quickly?
Babbs replied to koos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly. We don't have WLS to lose weight fast. We have it so we can lose it and keep it off. I only lost more than 10 pounds for 2 months. I just posted this in another thread. Doesn't make me any less successful! Month 1: -17 Month 2: -10 Month 3: -9 Month 4: -8 Month 5: -5 Month 6: -5 Month 7: -2 Month 8: -7 Month 9: -7 Month 10: -3 Month 11: -5 Month 12: -7 =85 pounds and goal of 150 Month 13: -3 Month 14: -5 Month 15: -0 -
@@rking Oh, and I think I dropped a size after like 20-25 pounds. It's been so long, I can't remember now
-
@@rking Boy, that's tough. Because, like you, I started out a relative "lightweight" (ha), and I was a little on the older side when I had surgery (47) so I was a little on the slower side. You may not be. We were pretty on par at this point I should say, though. I used to record my weight every Monday, so here are my losses by month to now.... Month 1: -17 Month 2: -10 Month 3: -9 Month 4: -8 Month 5: -5 Month 6: -5 Month 7: -2 Month 8: -7 Month 9: -7 Month 10: -3 Month 11: -5 Month 12: -7 =85 pounds and goal of 150 Month 13: -3 Month 14: -5 Month 15: -0 =8 more for stretch weight of 142 (or 143 depending on the day, lol) for a total of 93 pounds. I have been holding steady at this weight (besides a normal 1-2 pound fluctuation every now and then) for 6 weeks now, so I think I've found my set point See? It took me 14 months to lose 93 pounds! But it doesn't matter how fast or how slowly I lost it. The only thing that matters is I lost it and am now maintaining it Good Luck to you!

Feedback for how you feel day 1-2 immediately after sleeve surgery
Babbs replied to nysweetest1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You feel like you had major surgery. Major surgery doesn't exactly tickle. Pain level is different for everyone. I have a high tolerance for pain, but didn't want to be a hero and took my pain meds to help me sleep, although I probably could have taken Tylenol and been okay. You may say it's the worse pain you've ever felt. You just never know. I did wake up in quite a bit of pain. Some others didn't. After I got meds, it was totally managable. Major surgery takes a toll on your body. That's why there's a recovery time. Usually 6 weeks is the magic number to feel close to normal again. On top of it, we are getting very few calories. So between the two, you're tired and feel worn out. It just takes time to feel normal. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! -
JUST LOOK AT YOU!!! You can rant all you want, honey, but you are looking HOT!!! You should be so, so very proud. I know I am proud of you

A serious question for the veterans

A serious question for the veterans
Babbs replied to ShrinkingPeach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes a while for the brain to catch up. I had asked this very question back in May. If you read through the thread, it's actually very common! I've only now gotten used to how I look. I'm still sometimes taken aback at how much smaller I look than how I actually think I look. It's terrible what we do to ourselves! Such negative self thoughts... Anyway, here's the thread. Great responses, and it made me feel so much better that I wasn't a freak for feeling the way you do right now! It's a really weird phenomenon. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/341263-why-is-it-the-more-weight-i-lose-the-fatter-i-feel/ -
I agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl. But you're also being vague about what you're eating, how much Protein you're eating, how much you're moving, drinking, etc.... Sometimes the things we are doing may stall weight loss. Sometimes it's just our bodies taking a much needed break. So ask yourself this....have you been doing everything mostly by the book, or have you let some bad habits slip back into your diet? Are you eating enough? Too much? Those are some of the questions a NUT would ask you. If you're so inclined, you can give us an idea so we can throw some possible solutions your way, also.

Please share your 1-3 month losses
Babbs replied to MsCyrus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just keep in mind as you get answers that there are many, many factors that determine how much weight people lose. Comparing your potential losses to others can be a slippery slope. I know. I was a very slow loser compared to many. It was only when I stopped comparing and just did my own thing was it easier for me to just keep moving forward until I finally made my goal weight. Looking back, how quickly or slowly I lost weight doesn't matter one bit anymore! The fact that I lost it and am now maintaining it does. -
Yes, if you are cleared for "seedy" fruits, I would have the lower sugar fruits if you really want some. I add some raspberries, blueberries or blackberries to my yogurt every so often. So yummy! And I get my fruit fix

How Often Do You Get Help From Your Surgeon or Other Bariatric Professional?
Babbs replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stopped seeing my surgeon after week 6. Other than a few visits to my PCP for some follow up blood work, I've relied on this site and some other WLS sites on Facebook for support. It's served me well so far -

Oh my gosh I love this comment Tink! That's why I'm always harping on people to not wear ill fitting clothes as they lose weight! It makes you feel so much better wearing things that actually fit as you're going down in sizes. And others notice the weight loss better, too! -

Babbs replied to Lexuskela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It took me a long time for my head to catch up to the weight loss. I felt that way about my pictures until very recently. Even now at goal I'm sometimes still overly critical. It's really sad what we do to ourselves, isn't it? All that negative self talk?
