  1. @@g8edgrl Good, I'm glad she paying for therapy. Take advantage of it. Will it help to know that 99% of people regret the surgery the first week or so? And that how you're feeling now is not how you will feel weeks, months, and years down the road? And that within a matter of months you will be eating pretty much anything but in smaller portions and you will feel pretty normal? Honest. It DOES GET BETTER.
  2. Please don't take this wrong because I'm dead serious, but you need some major therapy to work through all of that. You will never be happy until you can work through those issues with your weight and your mother. Please, seek therapy.
  3. I'm 18 months out, too. Although I didn't gain really during the holidays because I was trying to excersise to compensate for my terrible eating, I was eating way to many sugar and carbs. I knew once they were over, I needed to detox from it all to end the cravings for more. I just started by getting back to basics again. Tons of Water, ONLY protien and veggies for every meal except for a Protein shake for Breakfast. No sugar, carbs from white stuff, or processed food. After the 5th day, I'd lost 2 pounds not really trying, and my cravings for sugar and carbs were under control again. The first day or so is rough getting over the hump, but once you get into the groove, it's easier to keep it going. My restriction even got better! Good luck!

    Hello!

How are you doing? What's been keeping you away? Life? Hope all is well!
  7. My mom was Bi Polar, my dad clinically depressed, so I hit the genetic lottery. I have suffered from clinical depression my whole life. I have also been steadily medicated for it with various anti depressants, some better than others. I just accepted the fact that I would have to be on them for the rest of my life. I don't know if it's the excersise, the mostly clean diet, the new outlook on life, or a combination of all three, but I havn't needed anti depressants since my surgery almost 18 months ago. My doctor is thrilled, although is also a little amazed that I seem to have been completely cured of my depression. This surgery has been such a miracle is so many ways.
  8. Hi everyone! What's going on in this thread?? Have I won yet??
  9. Add me to the love jicama crowd! Green tea is okay. I like to drink it with a little sweetener to get my Water in. I can't deal with it not sweetened, though.
  10. This stage is one of the toughest in my opinion as far as head hunger. We are just starting out and the lack of being able to eat real food really can mess with our heads. I literally cried one day when my husband ate an Egg McMuffin in front of me at like a week out. Wanna know the awesome part, though? It really does get easier to be around that stuff once you begin to eat more solid food and can actually chew something. You also start to feel more 'normal' again, being able to actually eat like a real person. Here's your mantra: This too shall pass.
  11. First off, you didn't have success with phentermine. You gained the weight back, didn't you? Second, 20 pounds in 6 weeks is a perfectly acceptable number. I don't know what your stats are, but I'd be willing to bet you're a lower BMI. That always makes a difference in the rate we lose weight. Age and gender a are also good indicators of rate of loss. What's your hurry? Will you turn into a pumpkin or something if you don't get to goal by a certain date? It took me a year to lose 85 pounds, and an additional 5 months to lose 10 more. How long it took me doesn't matter one bit. The fact that I got there and am maintaining it does. Just keep working your program, learn as much as you can about excersise and nutrition to be the healthiest you can be, and don't fret about how fast you're losing. It's negative thinking and counterproductive to you goals.

    Family likes to eat out

One thing I figured out really soon after being sleeved and worrying about wait staff or people we are with noticing how little we eat is this: Nobody notices or even cares. We are so self absorbed when we are newly sleeved (rightly so), we don't realize that that the rest of the world doesn't revolve around our dietary habits
  13. @@Beachsprite It not being rude, just honest. It just gets my hackles up when newbies ask for answers, and then refuse to accept the answers given by veterans because it doesn't fit their liking. We have ALL struggled with hunger at one time or another after surgery. Like I said, no magic wand, just an arsenal of ideas and tools to help combat it. You can take it, or continue to complain about it. That's all I have to say about that.
  14. @@Inner Surfer Girl The furniture was from a model home, so it was pretty nice and actually my style Then a year or so later we were in Jackpot, Nevada and I hit a $4,000 jackpot on a slot machine. I thought I was pretty lucky, but you take the cake!
  15. "Stock" replies?? Really? Those people with "stock" replies know what they are talking about. Just because you thought sleeve surgery was going to be this magical thing where all your hunger would go away and you wouldn't actually have to use a little will power once in a while doesn't mean the answers given to you by mostly veterans aren't tried and true. They've been there. They know what works. So you're hungry? Drink Water, make sure you're eating enough protein, and eat on a schedule. We don't have a magic wand to make your hunger go away. Sorry for the stock reply.
  16. @@Inner Surfer Girl I once won $10,000 worth of furniture! I would have rather gone to Hawaii Did you have to pay taxes on your prize?? We did
  17. I chose not to continue care with my surgeon due to personal differences and continued after care with my PCP. Although my PCP has been great with follow up blood work and so forth, she obviously is no expert on WLS. I attribute all of my success to this site. Not only have I learned so much over the last couple of years, I have made some amazing and inspirational friends along the way. I can't say thank you enough, Alex, for this wonderful place of knowledge and support.
  18. No. Sleeves don't really stretch. The stretchy part, or fundus, was removed during surgery. It would take years of grossly overeating to the point of vomiting to actually stretch it enough to where you're eating significantly enough to cause weight gain. Can the sleeve relax and complete healing over time allowing more food to be eaten? Absolutely. That's why it's important for us not to just count on sleeve restriction and pay more attention to what we are eating for when that time comes. And to the OP: You can have 10 different weight loss surgeries, but the fact of the matter is if your head isn't in the game, NONE of them will work. Like Ann said, look inside and try to figure out what caused you to not succeed before, and then figure out the steps it will take to help you become successful whether you decide on revision surgery or give this one antother go. Your sleeve hasn't changed, it's just waiting for you to.
  19. I'm 17 months out, and it just depends on what it is. If it's a light white fish, I can eat about 5-6 oz with a few bites of veggies. If it's beef, which is a little denser, only 4-5 oz with a couple bites of veggies. Same with chicken. I can eat 3/4 cup of Soup, cottage cheese, oatmeal, yogurt and the like.

  21. And you're rockin it!! Love the outfit! Before I wouldn't wear something like that because I was too fat. Now I can't wear something like that because I'm too old. FML. Really though, you look simply amazing!
  22. My hubby had RNY 10 years ago and lost 130 lbs. When he complained to his surgeon at his year appointment about people telling him he was too thin, or looked 'sickly', his surgeon said this: "There are so many overweight and obese people these days, nobody even knows what a normal weight looks like anymore. Ignore them."

    Goal weight

@@Caela88 It took me a while to get to goal, so I may have well been a revision, lol. I lost 85 pounds in 12 months, and it took me an additional 5 months to lose 10 more. I'm a little on the older side (pushing 50), and since having a hysterectomy, have the metabolism of a koala bear But I lost it, I'm maintaining it so far, and that's all that matters!

    Goal weight

There are LOTS of revisions who met goal and even beyond on this forum. Hoping they chime in I'm not a revision, but at 5'5" started at 235 and now weigh 140, 10 pounds below my goal of 150.
