    How much can you eat

Oh believe me, someday you're going to look back on the days of being able to barely eat and long for them
  2. I'm 18 months out, and actually the KEY to keeping the weight off is one steadfast rule: Protein FIRST. Why? There are several reasons. During the losing phase, protein helps you keep the muscle that will be lost naturally with the weight loss. Also, satiation, which is just a fancy way of saying you feel full and satisfied. Protein also takes more calories to digest, thus helping weight loss along. Satiety is also important the further out you get and into maintenance so you're not tempted to snack or have cravings, and protein helps with that. Most of the people I see having issues with regain are not following the protein first rule, and letting carbs like white bread, Pasta, rice and crackers slip back into their diet, causing sugar fluctuations and cravings for more processed carbs. Then there starts the vicious cycle. Now I don't think we need AS MUCH protein the further out we are when we can actually eat a little more than a few bites, and as a matter of fact, I feel it can be harmful to have too much protein too. In the end, it will be all about balance once you are past the losing phase and onto the maintenance phase, but protein will still be front and center in your diet. Just not ALL consuming like in the beginning

    100lbs before and after

Woah... damn Babbs, I didn't realize you were so hot. I guessI haven't creeped your profile yet. brb... creeping. Right back atcha, you sexy thang!!!
  4. I remember at around 5 weeks waking up and feeling surprised I finally felt human. You just had major surgery, these things take time.
  5. I didn't have a pre op or "liver shrinking" diet at all, so I doubt your complications were from that. But yes, your call to follow your own particular surgeons orders are absolutely correct. Hope all is well.
  6. Honestly, if you just start doing little things like taking the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator, Park further away from the store in the parking lot, take the kids to the park or a dog for a walk, you will already start to feel better just knowing you're doing SOMETHING more and making an effort. You don't need to be a gym rat to move more. Getting your heart rate up is the key. Take those first little steps and go from there!

    Gaining instead of losing

Sounds to me like your body is desperately trying to hold onto any form of sustainable energy possible because it's starving. Slow your roll on the excersise and force some protein and calories down. 200 calories and constant exercise is not the way to do this. Just worry about getting fluids and protein down to heal up and then start an excersise regimen. Right now just normal moving around will burn calories with as little as you're eating.

Do I Get Voted Off the Forums if.....

Nope. To each his own. I'm all for doing it any way you can, as long as it makes you happy and healthy!
  10. People who think depression can be cured with happy thoughts don't deserve and won't even understand your explanation of why you need surgery. Don't even try.
  11. A "pouch" reset at 11 weeks out? You people need to learn some damn patience.
  12. A rare complication of the sleeve is damage to the Vagus Nerve, which can cause constant nausea. Talk to your surgeon about this possibility.
  13. The honest truth is you won't have much room for anything BUT Protein the first several months post op, and that's okay. It helps you heal and keep the muscle you may lose with weight loss. I actually was mostly protien the first 6 months. Then I stated encorperating some carbs in the form of fruits and veggies into my diet.
  14. Can you tell I'm VERY type A and have like zero patience??? Does it show??? Lol I know the 3 week stall is a huge thing but it still sucks ! One thing you will have to learn through this whole process is patience. Sometimes, even when we are doing everything right, our bodies don't always want to cooperate. You have to just stay the course or try to change things up to get things moving again. This particular stall? There is ZERO you can do but stay the course. Oh, and stay off the scale
  15. You can eat protein til the cows come home. Hair loss will still happen. You may minimize it, but NOTHING will completely prevent it. I was eating 60-80 grams of protein a day,and lost hair until a year out.
  16. I agree. Cut and run. I would find someone you're comfortable with. I wouldn't have been with this dude, either. ESPECIALLY if he doesn't even do the procedure correctly by taking 80-85% of the stomach! Do you really want to go through all that to not have it benefit you the best it can? I think not!

    The Biggest Loser

All valid reasons to hate that show, but what was the clincher for me was when the doctor on the show said a season or so back that weight loss surgery was mutilating your body, and the way they lose weight on the show is the "right" way. I was unaware that excersising 8 hours a day in a controlled environment was the "right" way? Color me surprised!
  18. I love what you said about your weight loss (It's been acceptable). Yes, it certainly has! Take your antacids your surgeon hopefully prescribed for you. Sometimes excess stomach acid can mimic hunger. I have a feeling what you're really experiencing may just be what we call "head hunger". You THINK you're hungry, but it's really not physical hunger. I suffered with it pretty bad. liquids are Fluid, and can just go right through your sleeve. That's why they go down a little easier for some. Don't worry, once you start on more solid food, you'll feel the restriction. I felt the same way. I even questioned whether the surgeon even did the operation! But then I had refried Beans...and could only eat 2 bites. It will work. Don't worry.

    The Biggest Loser

Don't EVEN get me started on that show....
  20. hair loss comes with the territory and is no big deal to most. It can be alarming, but I've rarely seen anyone who actually had to wear a wig or hairpeice. Most of the time it's only really noticeable to you and your hairdresser. I had GERD before, and it did get worse immediately after. Now at 18 months out, it's very controlled with medication. I've seen some that don't get it at all or even are cured of GERD after surgery. Sleevers rarely dump. That's more of a bypass issue. Risks vs benefits, my dear. For me the benefits FAR outweigh the risks. Totally worth it!

    Coffee drinkers

I think about 6 weeks. I really shouldn't even be drinking it with my GERD, but I try to limit it. I have to have some vices, don't I??
  22. Babbs

    Anesthesia

If you didn't wake up from anesthesia, how would you even know anyway? I've said it before, most people don't die under anesthesia. They die from the complications AFTER the surgery. And those are >1%. You're going to be surprised how much of a non event being under was. You go in the OR, and then after that you're waking up. Simple as that.
  23. The thing I have learned about this whole experience is it's not as simple as calories in/calories out. Our bodies want to do their own thing, and a lot of times there's not a thing we can do about it but be patient and persistent!
  24. @@ssflbelle Your stall at 10 days is completely normal. Everyone experiences it early out. Just stay the course and ride it out.
  25. Thanks Babbs! I track everything that I eat but I will try increasing my protein. Increase calories, too. I guarantee that's the issue.
