And who, pray tell, would that be? Hmmm. *Rubs chin* -
What is the best advice you have received yet?
Babbs replied to northstar9148's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never compare our own weight loss with others. We are all different, and if we follow the "rules" of WLS 90% of the time, we will eventually get where we want to be. Then the work REALLY starts. -

Want to know the funny thing? I don't even feel like a vet. I'm still trying to figure out this maintenence thing! -
I looked at this as a lifestyle change, so I had no desire to have a pig out session. I just wanted to get the show on the road so I could get rid of my diabetes and high blood pressure. I'd also quit smoking a couple of months before. I didn't reward the milestone with a cigarette. In the 30+ years I've been dieting, the ONE rule has always been NEVER REWARD YOURSELF WITH food. Get your mind right from the start, or it will be a long, hard road.

I took my love and I took it down Climbed a mountain and I turned around And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills Till the landslide brought me down Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? And can I sail through the changing ocean tides Can I handle the seasons of my life? Oh oh I don't know, oh I don't know Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older I'm getting older too Oh I'm getting older too Oh, take my love, take it down Climb a mountain and turn around And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring you down, down And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well maybe the landslide will bring you down Well well, the landslide will bring you down I'm not posting artist or song title because if you don't know you're a bad person and should feel bad for not knowing.

At 35, I got drunk with a tattoo artist friend and he decided we all needed a tattoo at my kitchen table. And that's where I got it....at my kitchen table. It's a terrible tattoo of a sunflower on my ankle that I actually want to remove. I don't even want it covered. I have no interest in getting another. Never really understood the appeal of them, personally, but I DO appreciate nice art on other people.

@@jintycb You're good people.
-
I like you. And I concur with the in person thing. What you see is basically what you get with me. But that comes from being an old hag. I seriously could give a flying toot whether people like me or not.

I think the one thing we can ALL agree on is we want to see @@Dub f*ck that cake.

He's scared. That's normal. Obviously you guys have a great relationship, because he's scared it will change. You just tell him although things may change a bit, it will all be for the better. He's going to love the happier, healthier, maybe even sexier (I'm sure you're already quite sexy) you!

Your idea of "fun" may have been what got you to 220 pounds, no? There's other ways to have fun together. Some even involve exercise. (Sex. I'm talking about sex).
-
haha I actually think that may be the whole reason I posted the original post.....I'll be 4 weeks post op on Monday and think I'm having a hormonal dump and just needed a good snarky pissy conversation...hahaha And there it is.

You could be equally successful with the sleeve. I have lost 175 lbs and still loosing Let me know when you get to 125 pounds.
-
And then there are the know it all newbies ruining it for everyone else. When I was new, I craved information. I hung on every veterans word, hoping to be as successful as they have been. Was I slapped down a couple of times in the process? Sure. But I'm not a butt hurt puss y who gets triggered every time someone gives me a little tough love. Those veterans that you speak of are the reason I've been successful. Honestly. Without their guidance and information and yes, tough love, I wouldn't be a size 6 and maintaining, have perfect labs, and running up to 3 miles every other day. I was one who didn't pursue after care with my surgeon, so everything I learned, I learned from this site. But some people are so set on squealing like the little piggies they are, they can't learn anything in the process. Most are looking for justification to eat around their surgeries, and if they don't get it, go on the defensive and then have the usual suspects white knighting for them and then ganging up on people, complaining about the big meanies, telling people how they should be responding, and messaging Alex to complain about the said meanies like we are in grade school telling the teacher. It's getting quite old, actually. Didn't like a member? I either stayed out of the thread, or put them on ignore. Problem solved. If I get banned for this post, I honestly don't give a shiat anymore. I've really grown to abhor this site anyway for the reasons stated above. I've got other forms of support. How's that for ruining this forum?
-
And you would consider yourself a "failure" if you didn't get down to 125 pounds?? You've got a long road ahead if that's the case. I think you will be thrilled when you get under 200. You'll assess things as you go along. Sometimes our bodies have other goal weights in mind. I'm the perfect example. I would have liked to get to 135 to make it an even 100 pound loss, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get there. I've even put on 3 pounds after maintaining for almost a year that won't come off. My body has a mind of it's own sometimes. So when a someone tells you "You can take it as far as you want!" that's not always true. Like I said, be satisfied where ever you end up as long as you're healthy and happy.
-
I think with the DS you may be able to. I would tell you different if it was the sleeve. But be healthy and happy wherever you end up

Any veteran sleevers who did NOT experience hair loss?
Babbs replied to B1essed1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the over 2 years on these boards, I know ONE person who said they haven't lost any hair. @@Miss Mac, I believe. Others chime in if I'm wrong or you didn't either. Most people do. There's not a lot you can do to stop it, but possibly minimize it. Make sure you're meeting your Protein goals, religiously take your Vitamins, use Biotin. I did all of the above, and still lost some (about 25%) hair. No biggie. At almost 2 years out, the benefits of being a healthy size 6 far outweigh losing a bit of hair. It has also come back to pre WLS thickness -
Is it okay to take Phentermine while on the liquid diet?
Babbs replied to PRINCESS2218's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UGH, I just HATE the sanctimonious hate for phentermine around here! ESPECIALLY from people who had to resort to major surgery to be used as a tool to aid in the fight against obesity. It's just another TOOL. But I digress. Ask your surgeon before taking ANY medication before a major surgery! -
A stall AND weight gain, 9 weeks out
Babbs replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.
