Yup. I just think @@OutsideMatchInside 's point is some carbs affect our bodies the same way. Sugar is sugar is sugar. And she's totally correct. I posted a TED Talk video in another thread about how carbs affect our bodies. Very informative.

If it hurts, don't do it. You're absolutely correct to just go back to liquids for a few more days and try again later. Pain when eating or drinking is pretty much an indicator that whatever you're doing is either to fast or too soon. This is all just trial and error at first!

1 day post op and feeling weird...
Babbs replied to leliwhoaoh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was terrified when I coughed or sneezed I was going to blow them out. Get up and move! Honestly, that's the only thing that made me feel better was walking around. It's hell getting up, but once you're up and about it feels good. -
But that being said, Oreo's are a processed food. Bananas are not. So given the choice, for health purposes I'd choose a banana over an Oreo any day and not feel a damn bit of guilt about it. Eating clean, non processed foods will always be the better choice. I would still prefer an Oreo.
-
It's not, that's how. It's called "I know I shouldn't have eaten a whole banana and I was called out for it so I made up an amount to justify it."

How much should I be able to eat
Babbs replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THANK YOU!!! I am a relatively happy go lucky person and have a hard time dealing with people that thrive on drama. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes, God forbid anyone eat a piece of fruit BEFORE their Protein source. The protein police will hang you alive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Well, there's reasons why there are certain rules with bariatric surgery like the 'protein first' rule. They aren't making stuff up just for shitz and giggles. The rules are in place in order to be as successful as you possibly can be with the surgery. Sadly, I see far too many people who seem to take those things more as suggestions and not actual rules for success. -
Sometimes I'm blown away by the lack of understanding about even basic nutrition. Especially by people who have had major surgery to deal with their obesity issues.

My sister is the exact same way. With me, as long as I like what I'm doing, I'm good. I got bored with the running, now I'm on to making goals on the Stair Climber. Maybe next time it will be rowing. Who knows? But as long as I switch it up and don't get bored, I will keep doing it.

Find something you LIKE to do and that will be sustainable. If the gym isn't in that equation, then ditch the gym and figure something else out. Ride a bike Take a walk Hike in a park Swim at the Y Dance with your kids Play with your dogs Walk around the mall Climb the stairs of your house several times Find a home workout video you like to do...... Moving more doesn't have to mean killing yourself at the gym. This is for life. Find something you're going to enjoy for the rest of your life that you won't get tired of doing!

Can I have bread and if not why?
Babbs replied to kcirym2vp@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@KristenLe It almost seemed like a "My NUT and surgeon said I could eat bread, so I'm gonna eat bread" post. But what do I know? I just post here. -
For the Re-Gainers who have LOST, please share HOW you lost it again
Babbs replied to mi75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost almost 6 pounds doing intermittent fasting, or the 5:2 Diet. On my "normal" eating days, I was eating 1200 calories and eating very clean and healthy and very low carb, and on my fast days I was eating 500 calories. On my fast days I would fast from the evening before (Say 9:00 pm on) until noon the next day (still drinking lots of Water and even black coffee or tea), and use my 500 calories up the rest of the day. That worked for me. Here's a basic explanation of the plan: https://authoritynutrition.com/the-5-2-diet-guide/ -
Can I have bread and if not why?
Babbs replied to kcirym2vp@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All carbohydrates are NOT created equal. This is an amazing video explaining the difference and how certain ones cause metabolic syndrome (which all of us had because we were obese). Personally I rarely did them in my losing phase and only in moderation in my maintenance phase and only in the form of whole grains. Nothing "white". -
@@Raynbolite Atta girl! Don't look at your success as just weight loss. Look at you go with all that walking! For us former couch potatoes, that's something to be proud of
-
Men lose faster. You won't lose as quickly as he will. Ever. So don't even stress yourself out about things you have no control over, and worry about what you can control like making sure you're getting enough protein and fluids. The rest will happen

I remember thinking during the liquid phase "Did the surgeon even DO the surgery??" Then I got to pureed food. A few bites of refried Beans did me in.

For those worried about excess skin...
Babbs replied to dashofsunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have done amazing! Great job. Your skin isn't bad AT ALL. I'm kind of an old broad, but I exercised to minimize it the best I could. My only real problem area is my tummy, also. But heck, Spanx and pulling my pants up over it, I hide it pretty well I did have a plastics consult, but chose to pass for now. I may change my mind down the road. -
This may be a personal question, but were you abused as a child? Or even as an adult? Sometimes we like to keep our "barrier" of fat because it makes us feel protected and safe. Maybe you seeing those numbers and pictures are just fear of feeling too vulnerable as the new, thinner (and unprotected) you? But yes, I cuncur that seeing a therapist would be the best way to get to the bottom of how you are feeling and hopefully overcome it so you can enjoy your new life to the fullest.

How many calories do you get in a day?
Babbs replied to ajg91342's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In the early weeks, the amount of calories usually correlates with how far out you are. 1-3 Weeks: 200-300 4 Weeks: 400-500 6-8 Weeks: 600-800 I was at about 800-900 until about 6 months. Then I stalled out, and went up to 1000. That did the trick. At 2+ years out, I maintain on 1200-1300 and seem to gain anything over that (Boo!) When I need to lose a few pounds, I go back down to 800 and that works. -

It's only been a little over a month since my VSG...
Babbs replied to Hiraeth's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks! But, I've lost 10 pounds per month before, sometimes even more. I'm still young, not middle-aged. I think 2-3 pounds per weeks is very realistic. I know it won't be like that once I get down to 150. HOW DARE YOU CALL ME "MIDDLE AGED". I actually am, lol. Pushing toward "senior" territory. And yes, it did probably contribute to me being a bit of a slow poke loser. Yes, you're right, that is very realistic. But I've found when people set specific goals for weight loss, it always ends in tears. It's better to set non weight specific goals. And also, I've found our bodies don't always react the way we think they are going to after this surgery. You'll find lots of people will agree This surgery has a funny way of changing our metabolisms. -
Getting back on that wagon, is it possible?
Babbs replied to sleevedmanda's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anyway, about the 5:2..... I know it sounds like another "fad", but honestly, my metabolism changed once again in maintenance. Any little change in my daily routine would cause a gain, and it WOULD NOT come off no matter what I did. I found the intermittent fasting along with moderate to hard exercise helped ramp up my metabolism again to where I could start losing. Something about the on again off again eating pattern helps with the metabolic changes. -

Babbs replied to sleevedmanda's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@sleevedmanda https://authoritynutrition.com/the-5-2-diet-guide/ This can't be said enough. Although exercise doesn't seem as important with weight loss, I learned the hard way it's almost everything with maintenance.
