HAHAHAHAHA!! You realize you're disagreeing with a VERY successful WLS person who has lost beyond their excess weight AND has maintained it AND is running marathons, right? And losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise, know it all. I've seen people who have had surgery lose all their weight with no exercise at all. How do you explain that, professor?

I gotta tuna taco for you!! And every time I serve them, the husband walks through the house cackling "Tuna on my plate, tuna on my date." Moron. I don't even know how to respond to this.

@@Raynbolite I finally stopped sweating! Between being a fatty and early menopause, if I exerted myself at all I would sweat. People at work got used to seeing the back of my hair and neck wet with sweat. It was gross. And yes, now I'm always cold

Finding Vegas travel difficult and boring; hell this entire diet is same old, same old
Babbs replied to trekker954's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just keep in mind, it's not always going to be this way. As things continue to heal up for you and you advance stages, you will be able to eat a bit more and feel more part of the crowd instead of a patient with food restrictions. It's hard for us at first when we feel like such outsiders. Also, it's new not having food be the complete center of our universe all the time. You learn to live with it, and even like it! -
Can we get back to talking about tacos? I like tacos.

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Babbs replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say it fails, because technically the tool is still there for us to utilize. I know people who still have amazing restriction at 3+ years out, which helps them with maintenance. It's just easier to kind of ignore it and go back to bad habits further out as things really "normalize" for us. As long as we keep the same good habits and practice them more times than not, we should be good And yes, just like alcoholics, we never "get over" being obese. We always have to be aware that we can relapse if we let our guard down. -

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Babbs replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Polara I don't want to sound like a dick, but at 9 months out, you're still in your honeymoon period. It's easy right now. I'm 2 years out and have been maintaining within 5 or 6 pounds for almost a year, and my honeymoon period seemed to end at around 18 months. What I do know is it's getting harder and harder as each month goes by, as my hunger and cravings are returning and I notice I can eat so much more than at a year out. I am constantly fighting with that 5 pounds to make sure it doesn't become 10, 20, or 30. Sometimes it effing sucks and it's effing hard. And I hear year 3 is when the struggle really starts and weight seems to re appear for no apparent reason and becomes even harder to get off. Don't get me wrong, you've completely got the right idea, and if you continue with that mindset you will be success at maintenance. But as long as you understand that the further out you get, the harder it becomes as the excitement of being thin wears off and the effectiveness of the surgery wanes until the effects become almost nil around year 5 and it's pretty much all on us at that point. Also, my niece is a mortician, too! -
a couple questions for all the sleeve veterans
Babbs replied to mollydeez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and I would also do the best you can to lose a few pounds. Just start getting into the healthy eating mode early by eating lean proteins and veggies and lots of water. Do that for a couple of weeks, and you'll see the weight come off. Plus you'll feel great. -

Ditto. Wasn't even told to crush them up. If your medications you are on are weight related, don't be surprised when you're taken off of them several weeks after surgery. One of the many wonderful things about this surgery! Oh, and congrats! -

It seems to be that way. Its always all about him and his kid and it frustrates me. This is the ONE thing I have chosen to take control of my life and he acts like its no big deal. Im tired of worrying about other people and not myself. That's why Im so overweight Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App You seem like a smart girl with a good head on your shoulders. I'd like to throw in my two cents also and say that I too owe a lot to @@LipstickLady for my success so far. I mean, why wouldn't I listen to the advice of someone who lost all their weight AND has managed to keep it off? I would have been crazy not to! Oh, and she's actually a pretty nice person, too. I know that's hard for some people to believe. -

Really the only time I give a rats patootie anymore about what someone is eating post op is when they are early out and can actually injure themselves. Yeah, I'm going to say something whether they like it or not just to try to make them understand that bodily injury can occur before they're fully healed. Otherwise, have at it. Eat whatever you want if it works for you. And if it doesn't, then who am I to tell someone they weren't ready for the surgery? I'm sure they themselves already know. Me? I was ready. And I'm totally willing to throw a little advice someone's way if they show they are, too. Usually the ones who can take a little constructive criticism, are thirsty for knowledge, don't think they already know it all (because who does?), and open to different advice without getting completely defensive are the ones who are ready for the changes that need to happen with the surgery. They don't want validation, just information. -

King George! George Strait when I was about 17 in 1985? Nothing too wild and crazy, lol. Those came later. I also have very diverse musical taste, so I have seen everyone from Elton John (GREAT concert) to Metallica (another great concert). Interestingly enough, I don't like country music anymore. Just the old stuff. But George is still awesome.

This sounds like great news! Do you have a source for this? I would love to find out more. Thanks! Here is a video explaining common myths by an amazing bariatric surgeon, Dr Matthew Weiner from Michigan. I highly suggest people watch all of his videos on Youtube. Very informative and no nonsense. He's amazing. Edited to add: But he is VERY against soda. Diet and regular. And his #8 myth is pretty controversial in the WLS world.

Coffee Controversy: to Drink or Not to Drink

I like the cut of your jib. -
No, because I can still have those things. I eat steak all the time, and drink alcohol occasionally. In the beginning, it's easy to get short sighted and think never. For those of us who have children, remember when they were newborns and we used to think "I'm never going to be able to go out and have fun again!" But then one day, we could? But we still knew we were responsible for a child, so we did it occasionally and responsibly? Yeah, its like that.
