    Six weeks out

    Oh and water, water, water!

    Six weeks out

Try to up your calories with protein. I'm 3 months out, so I can eat a little more than you, but I found when I stall it's because I'm just flat out not eating enough. A couple days of upping my calories with protein rich foods, and BAM! Stall broken and I lose like 2 and a half pounds. Give it a try!
  3. I cried the first time my husband ate in front of me about a week after surgery. The head hunger was SOOOO bad! The only thing that kept me going was knowing my tummy needed to heal and it would be a matter of time before I could have pureed food. It's tough, but hang in there! We've all been there!
  4. Deep fried chicken gizzards! I know they sound gross, but they are actually really good...chewy, but good!
  5. I bet there were people reading that before you said you were kidding ready to jump your shit, lol. Thanks for the laugh....

    Omg so much pain

Everyone's pain tolerance is different. Everyone's surgeon is different. Everyone's aftercare is different. I think that's why everyone's experience varies so much! I have a freakishly high tolerance for pain. Always have. Had 2 LARGE babies 25 and 26 years ago completely natural. My son was 10lbs 5oz. I woke up from my sleeve surgery completely miserable. The pain on my right side was horrible! On top of that, I was very nauseated. Once I got the "good" drugs in me a couple hours later, I found it to be bearable. But my goodness, I had my gallbladder out and a complete hysterectomy with less pain. So don't think those of us who experienced quite a bit of pain after are "wimpier" than anyone else. We all are just different
  7. Drinking? As in Water? Clear liquids? shakes? I REALLY hope you're not talking about alcohol.... I don't think you can stretch your sleeve with liquids, but you need to still adhere to your NUT's guidelines of how many ounces you drink of water, shakes, Soups, etc.. each day.
  8. Copied and pasted from a thread I started this morning: I'm a little over 3 months post surgery, and I've been in an ugly stall (gained a pound, and then stalled for about a week and a half now). I thought Thanksgiving would be the perfect time to up my calories and carbs to see if I can break the stall . I had my usual Protein shake for Breakfast while everyone else was having cinnamon rolls. I had a deviled egg and some veggies for lunch. I had 2 spoons of stuffing, and stuck with turkey and veggies and a spoonful of cranberry sauce for dinner. I felt satisfied and more importantly, IN CONTROL. Hopped on the scale this morning, weight still the same, but I wasn't mad. For the first time in my entire life, I didn't make a complete glutton of myself on Thanksgiving. And as everyone else sat there completely miserable and sluggish, I still had energy to clean up and even take a walk after dinner. So although I may not like the number on the scale this week, NONE of it matters compared to the feeling I have of being in complete control of my health for the first time in my life! That to me is success
  9. Well, I'm 47 and I definitely think I lose at a little slower pace than some others. I know quite a few people that have had the surgery the same time or a week or so after me and have lost quite a bit more than I have, and they are younger than me. Or I could chalk it up to not having as much to lose? Or both? I dunno. All I know is it's slow but fairly steady for me, but I'll take it any way I can
  10. I don't track fat, but do track calories, carbs and protein. I'm getting 800-900 calories a day, and 60-80 grams of protein with under 30 grams of carbs a day (Most days I stay way under). I am probably older than you, so my weight loss has been slow but steady (about 1.5-2 lbs a week). I am 3 months out this week. And yes, stalls suck. Mine always involve a gain of a pound, stay there for a while, then lose 2...it's the darndest thing!
  11. Looking at the votes, I find it very telling that there isn't more votes for "Seeing my friends/and or family". As usual, with most of us, it's all about the food. (I voted for the "Feeling proud that I'm More in Control" option, like most did) Ultimately though, I do think I am a happier, more well rounded person now that food is not the COMPLETE focal point of my life. And that allows me to look forward to spending time with my family
  12. My kids are 25 and 27...can I still blame it on pregnancy?
  13. Or another good Queen song: "Don't Stop Me Now"
  14. "I Got A New Attitude"
  15. I agree with everyone here! You know what to do, but you also need to concentrate on healing and taking care of yourself! Listen to doctors orders, but do what you need to do to get back on track without hindering your healing. Heal well and Happy Thanksgiving!
  16. August 22 here! Hit ONEderland a couple of weeks ago, and am now down 40lbs! I feel like I'm finally getting into the "groove" of things as far as eating and exercise. For now, walking 5 days a week is working for me, but I may join a gym if my weight loss stalls or slows down considerably in the near future. Still have very good restriction, and I am very good at reading my "full" signal and stopping. 50lbs to go until goal! Onward and downward!
  17. No fear! I posted the same question before I started solid foods! I didn't really ever feel full on the liquid phase, and I was worried. As soon as I put something solid in my mouth (I believe it was refried beans) BOY OH BOY did I feel it then! I could only take 3 bites and had that "tightness" in my chest that I'm now familiar with as the "you've eaten enough" feeling! Now at 3 months out, it takes me about 7 bites
  18. I'm almost down 40 and it's hit and miss who notices (or at least who says anything). I agree with a couple other comments, I think most people are just afraid to say anything as to not offend. Kind of like asking someones who's pregnant (or not) how far along they are

    post op 7 days pizza

My hubby, who had a Gastric Bypass over 8 years ago, did the "pizza trick". He also ate a piece of steak too soon after surgery and had to get scoped to unlodge it from his esophagus. He always had the attitude of "I can eat whatever I want, just in smaller portions!". It worked for him....for a while. He lost over 100lbs and kept it off for about 7 years. His "little of this and little of that" attitude has stretched his pouch out so much, he has gained 50lbs back, and is having a hell of a time getting the weight off. He actually has to work to keep from gaining anymore. What's my point? He never changed his relationship with food. He physically couldn't eat as much anymore, so of course he lost weight. It's science (Less calories eaten, more calories burned equals weight loss) But because he chose not to do long term changes and actually adopt healthier eating habits, he is basically back to square one. Because of this, I am choosing to change my relationship with food and stay away from foods that made me fat to begin with and do my best to eat as healthily as possible. I think that's why maybe some have said to be mindful of things like the "chew and spit". It shows you may have to really reevaluate your relationship with food. Just sayin'.....

    Life Changes?

@@mfm116 Congratulations! You've done amazing! Love your blog, too! One of the better ones I've seen. Your writing is beautiful! And your VSG was a day after my birthday Anyway, like everyone else, had a few bumps in the beginning, but loving being in control of my eating and losing steadily every week (about 1.5-2lbs)...I'm a little slower than others but that's okay I'm about 50lbs to goal, and I'll keep up the good fight until then and beyond!
  21. Almost the same as yours...except clear liquids the day before and nothing after midnight the day of.

    Social media

All my friends on Facebook know. I have been posting my progress through pics since my surgery almost 3 months ago. I have wonderful support and they love hearing my updates. I understand there are people who like to be more private about it, but obviously I'm not one of them I enjoy the encouragement and support.
  23. This is an EXTREME case. Any surgery has risks. For every few unfortunate incidents like this, there are literally hundreds of thousands of successful surgeries. For the record, the Gastric Sleeve (I'm not sure why they titled the story Gastric Bypass?) has one of the lowest complication rates. Doesn't mean it's zero, but it's low. I'm sure the story is just feeding off of the "anti weight loss surgery" hype....
