Were you weighed the day of your surgery?
Babbs replied to Debbie Jean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually asked my surgeon if I was going to have a pre op diet because I was dreading it, lol. He said the impact it actually has on your liver is so minimul, he didn't believe it makes much of a difference as far as a surgery goes. I did have to do Clear liquids the day before, and nothing after midnight the day of. That's it Good Luck on Friday! -
I feel the opposite. I don't remember waking up from my gall bladder surgery in pain, and I was with the sleeve. My right side where the big incision was...OUCH. After I got meds, I was good. Just minor discomfort for a couple days after. No biggie

Were you weighed the day of your surgery?
Babbs replied to Debbie Jean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was weighed right before. She wrote it down in kilograms and I said to her "Um, do you mind letting me know what that is in pounds so I know how much I weigh?" I guess I could have figured it out, but I wanted to know EXACTLY what I weighed right before surgery! Oh, and that's what I use as my start weight. I had no pre op diet. -
I failed myself yet again...
Babbs replied to JerseyJules's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel like you failed! This is YOUR decision and YOURS alone! If you feel this wasn't the right thing for you at this time, then who is anyone to tell you any different? You do what you feel is right. I wish you all the best! -

Any one got a Plateau around week 3,4?
Babbs replied to Luka Wood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, completely normal. Search "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" either on Google or these forums and you will find much information about why it happens and how common it is. This won't be your last, either. Best advice is to not weigh yourself every day as to avoid the annoying fluctuations that normally happen as we go through this. I know it's tempting to weigh everyday in the beginning as the weight is just falling off, but soon your body adjusts and the weight loss starts to even out a little and slow down. Keep up the good work! -
Could be...especially a man. And as a rule, the more you weigh, the more weight you lose in the early weeks and even months. But like I said, it does and will even out eventually. That's why they call the first 6 months or so the "honeymoon period"
-
Good job! Take it easy...you should really only be doing walking at this point. Ask your surgeon next time you see him when you can be cleared for more exercises. I don't want to be a downer, just realistic. Your weight loss will slow down and even (gasp!) stall. Weight loss is very rapid at first, but soon it will even out. It is still quicker than without surgery, but you aren't going to lose 16lbs in 4 days every week You worry about staying hydrated right now and working on getting your Protein and wait until the doctor clears you for more exercises

Here is an even more relevant definition from the Urban Dictionary. I knew of the word, as I am and have been a part of several online groups for many years. Basically it's an online temper tantrum. And as was previously demonstrated, the person throwing the tantrum never actually leaves, but lurks to see the reaction from others of said tantrum. Anyway, you can thank the wonderful @@BLERDgirl for the enlightening word and the picture meme she posted with it. It made my day. And just to make a point, I haven't always agreed with BLERDgirl, but I respect her immensely and always enjoy her knowledgeable posts and opinions. I'm not going to get into a huff because I may not agree with people's opinions all the time. Anyway, here is the definition, according to Urban Dictionary, of "Flounce" - To leave an internet group or thread with exaggerated drama; deleting posts, notifying mods and or group users, and cross-posting on other groups to draw attention to the drama. Comes from the original use of gathering up skirts and petticoats and leaving in dramatic, impatient and exaggerated movements. Annoyed that no one would agree with him, u/ipknightly proceeded to flounce from the thread; threatening all others with TOU reports and deleting everything that he had written on the thread.

That's it. I'm done. I can't take any more of this rational, honest talk from SOME people. I'm leaving this site, and never coming back! Just thought I'd announce it, too, for a more dramatic flair!! *FLOUNCE*

No, you're not going to gain weight from eating a piece of chocolate banana , lol. I think pretty much all of us have popped something in our mouths without thinking, especially in the early stages. It's the residual effects of our old mindless eating. Just don't make it a habit.

Did anyone eat below 400 or 300 calories for a year post op after gastric sleeve?
Babbs replied to Best's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! What's going on in this thre....Oh....Um.... *Backs away slowly* -
I had the sleeve, my husband had the bypass. He had more weight to lose than I did. He did amazing, losing over 110 lbs in a year. His was 8 years ago, mine 4 months ago. Seemed his weight loss was much faster than mine is, but that could be several factors. I have less to lose and I'm a woman. And we were both younger 8 years ago The only complications he had was eating too much and throwing up...many times. Took him a while to learn his "full" signal. I, on the other hand, have not thrown up once. Obviously my pouch is a touch bigger than his was, so it was easier to read the full signal. He's happy with his, I'm relatively happy with mine. My weight loss is slower than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's because of the sleeve. I've seen people the same weight as I was when I had surgery hit goal in 6 months. The other downfall is acid reflux or GERD. If you suffer from it now, you have a higher chance of it getting even worse with the sleeve. Mine did. It was something I knew about, and hoped it wouldn't happen to me, but it did. I take medication to deal with it right now, but may have to do something different because it doesn't seem to be getting better. Just a couple things for you to consider from my experience. Oh, and I chose the sleeve because I felt it was a little less "drastic" than the bypass, and liked the idea of being able to absorb most of the Vitamins from food, as opposed to not near as much from the bypass.

How to forgive someone?

"Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die"--Buddha I'm just not going to give the other person that power. That's why I forgive. Period. -
Question regarding smoking (quitting cigarettes)
Babbs replied to ohclementine's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I think if you aren't actively smoking at the time of your surgery and don't pick it back up, you should be okay. I had quit for 2 months before mine, but not because of any requirement (although my surgeon stressed I quit smoking). I just thought gosh darn it, I'm doing a major surgery to get healthy, so why would I keep doing something that's completely unhealthy?? I'm so, so glad I quit. Between quitting smoking and losing almost 50lbs, I feel amazing!! Here is also some info on how it affects healing: http://www.woundcareclinic.net/2013/smoking-and-wound-healing/ -
Post op help needed - hunger
Babbs replied to bobbyswife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So when you are hungry at 10:30, why not eat a little Protein? I remember those first couple months I was eating like 5 or 6 times a day. Here's what my routine looked like: 7 or 8:00am: Breakfast 10:00am: Snack Noon: lunch 2:00-3:00: Snack 5:00-6:00: dinner Tea in the evening and throughout the day for more liquids. I pretty much ate every 2-3 hours. I felt that staved off the hunger. And yes, I, like you, felt hunger. I don't care what anyone says, darn it! It was HUNGER! So just know, you are not alone. My hunger subsided a little, but never really went away. I just learned to read it better now. I only eat when I'm hungry. Not bored. Not mad. Not tired....you get the idea -
Curious -- could you have done it without Weight Loss Surgery?
Babbs replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes! I have lost weight without WLS. HUNDREDS OF TIMES! But did I keep it off? Of course not! I had this surgery not to lose weight, because I can lose weight like gangbusters, but to receive the amazing tool to help me learn to eat in moderation and make what I'm putting in my mouth count to be healthy. Although the weight loss is obviously icing on the cake (mmmmm cake), the ultimate goal is a complete lifestyle change I intend to maintain even after I hit my goal weight. And I know now with this tool, if I work it correctly, I can continue to maintain a healthy weight. I'm in it for the long haul! -
Slightly Depressed- 3 Weeks Post Op and Gaining Weight
Babbs replied to MyssJones's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No worries! What you are going through is COMPLETELY NORMAL. You just had major surgery, your body is in shock and adjusting. Like you said, you know you aren't eating enough (it's physically impossible) for you to gain. It's a combination of Water, shock from the surgery, the dreaded 3 week stall (search the forum for "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" and it will give you an idea of why this happens. One thing I will say is stay off the scale right now. You have more important things to worry about right now like getting your liquids and Protein. Try really hard to not weigh yourself every day, it just causes undo anxiety that you don't need. Hop on in a couple more weeks and you will be pleasantly surprised. I promise! Hang in there!
