Happy Birthday! I'm sorry about the way your husband treats you. I truly hope that with the surgery comes a new feeling of self worth and understanding that people are only going to treat you as badly as you allow them to. Don't accept being invisible to your husband. Let him know how it makes you feel and if possible, seek help from a pastor or therapist to make it better. You owe it to yourself and your kids. Make this the year about you being healthier, both physically and emotionally

Yup, totally normal. I was the same way, and even wondered if the doctor did the surgery, lol. As soon as I started pureeds, I felt the restriction IMMEDIATELY. Your first couple bites of refried beans, you'll see Good for you being able to get all your fluids and protein in! Keep up the good work!

It's tough, but you also gotta want to do it. Just like with our weight, no amount of nagging, criticizing, or berating will make us do something about it until we are READY to. I quit 3 months before my surgery using vape, tapering down on the nicotine until I was down to 0. Then I stopped the vape. There have been many, many times after the surgery I've wanted to have a cig, but then I think to myself how far I've come and how much healthier I feel without them (along with the weight loss). I can honestly say I'm more proud of my quitting smoking than of the WLS. Just keep in mind you had WLS to get healthy. How does smoking fit into that equation? I'm rooting for you!

Did You Have Complications After Weight Loss Surgery?
Babbs replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My GERD got worse after the sleeve. I was on full liquids for 6 weeks after surgery to see if it would help at all. Unfortunately, it didn't. He doubled my medication, but to no avail. I will pursue with a gastro when the time comes, but for now I just watch the kind of foods i'm eating and the speed i'm eating to try to help it a little...and it does to a certain extent. I'm concentrating on weight loss right now! I know I need to deal with it eventually -
I STILL perk up when I hear a weight loss commercial or hear of a new weight loss pill or tool the FDA has approved. After 25 years of being on a diet, it's a hard habit to break
-
And to piggy back on that, most people who have affairs after WLS have had problems in their marriages or relationships way before they lost the weight. Strong relationships deal with the challenges WLS may bring TOGETHER.

Thought eating was getting better, but going backwards?
Babbs replied to FrankyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's NO WAY at 6 weeks you will be eating 1400 calories! 600-800 is pretty normal as early on as you are. I'm 5 months out, and I can't get over 1000 yet! That said, try to eat every couple hours to get your calories in. I wouldn't go back to the shakes, as your pouch does need to start getting used to "real" food. 4-6 smaller meals a day should do the trick to get your calories in. And yes, even if you're NOT hungry You've got to kick that metabolism into gear and give it some food! Good luck and good job thus far with your weight loss! -
How do we convince MFP we're not anorexic?
Babbs replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I always laugh to myself when it tells me how much I *should* weigh in 5 weeks if I keep eating the calories I'm eating. (It's always like 20lbs less) I'm like "Yeah right, pal. YOU DON'T KNOW ME" -
Post Surgery-Weight Stall- WTH?
Babbs replied to Pac-woman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its the Dreaded Three Week Stall (See? So common it even has a name!) Miss Mac says it best. Stalls are like lovers. Your first won't be your last. -
The other man has an "open" relationship with his wife. Yeah, right. That's what they all say.... Either figure out your relationship, or end it. Then move on to having coffee with other men. Unmarried ones, preferably.

@@jenn1 LOVE the closet! I'm a Realtor, so I really appreciate a nice closet I also love the idea of the "pounds lost" and "pounds to go" jars. I may have to try that! Anyway, CONGRATS. You should be very proud of yourself, and I hope to be right behind you by spring or summer! Hope to run into you one of these days at a meeting!

Foods that are a no nope not gonna happen!
Babbs replied to Countrygrrl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have trouble with steak. I end up buying the cube steak for myself to broil or BBQ if we happen to be having like sirloins or rib eyes or something like that because it just seems to go down easier. Those other cuts just don't sit well in the sleeve. Which is too bad, because pre surgery, I LOVED me some steak! -
Relationships, Sex and other Things That Mess Up Your Hair
Babbs replied to Folly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sex lately has been very....jiggily. Especially the loose skin on my belly. I secretly decided to avoid a certain position because I just couldn't stand the jiggling. I'm sure my husband didn't even notice, as we've been married for almost 26 years and is just excited to be getting some How's that to start it off?? -
One of the things I miss the most post surgery But I'll live

Another NSV! Blood Pressure Under Control
Babbs replied to joatsaint's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Isn't that a great feeling?? Before my surgery, at my heaviest, and for the first time in my life I struggled with high blood pressure. The first time I saw that 156/102 reading and was put on medication was the day I decided to have WLS. Literally weeks after my sugary I was taken off meds because my blood pressure was normal. Best feeling in the world -
Gastric Sleeve after Hysterectomy
Babbs replied to Beautiful Mess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a hysterectomy about 7 years ago, and I really haven't noticed anything different after my sleeve surgery. They even gave me my hormone replacement pills in the hospital after my sleeve. Maybe my weight loss is a little slower because of it? That could be many factors, though.. -
Anyone have regrets?
Babbs replied to crissylynn82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'd better find a way to deal with your attitude about food or you're in for a long, hard road. I'm eating for fuel now, too. And yes, it's hard to enjoy food when you just START to enjoy it and you have to stop because you're just too full already. The way I look at it is enjoying food too much got me to 235lbs. How am I going deal with my addiction without facing it head on and realizing that my attitude towards it needs to CHANGE? You've gotta eat to live, not live to eat if you want to be successful at this. I've seen too many people with the latter gain the weight back, and personally, that scares me to death. -
Me me me! Also @@jenn1 is from Boise.

Anyone have regrets?
Babbs replied to crissylynn82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you are going through is totally and completely normal. You just had major surgery, you can't eat and you feel like crap. I think someone who didn't think to themselves "What the hell did I do to myself!?" even for a split second wouldn't be normal. It gets better, I promise. Once you find your way, establish your new "normal", and see the weight coming off, you will feel much better. You will be probably be giving the same advice to a newbie in 5 months or so Hang in there and welcome to the losers bench! -
You look fab! Cute outfit, too
-
For me? GERD. Can't think of any other downside....pretty darn happy with it otherwise.
-
Was it the one about queefs? And I agree. Lighten up. As far as I know, we are all adults here.
-
Ditto what everyone else said. Stay away from popcorn, or any slider foods right now (especially ones with carbs). They go down way too easy, and can trigger even more urges to snack. Better would be first try water, then some cheese or yogurt or even jerky if you chew it up well and aren't adverse to a little extra salt. And I get hungry still. I'm getting better at seeing the difference between real hunger (it's time to eat!) or bored hunger (I just want to eat!)...it takes time. Some are lucky enough to not have much of an appetite. I'm not one of them
-
I don't want to alarm you or throw a wrench in your plans, but you do realize that sometimes the gastric sleeve makes GERD worse? It did in my case...
