I personally didn't experience the spasms, but I have read about several people on these boards who have had them after surgery. I also understand that as you heal, it will diminish after a while. Good Luck!

See you on the other side! Don't forget to walk walk walk, sip sip sip!

All completely normal. Hang in there. As the old saying goes, "Time heals all wounds". There's no doubt, the first month or so just plain SUCKS until you start to heal and find your new normal. I always say it's like going through labor. It sucks as you're going through it, but the end result is so worth it

Is the pre op diet needed?
Babbs replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. When I asked my doctor about why he didn't do a pre op diet, claiming many doctors do it to "shrink the liver" he laughed a little. He said he had recently attended a seminar that basically had stated that the liver shrinking is so minimal, it really makes no difference one way or the other. But I'm definitely not advocating anyone go against their own doctors orders. They are all different. -
Bread and Biscuits post op
Babbs replied to Karenlrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At almost 6 months out, I stay away from bread for the most part....EXCEPT when when I'm trying to break a stall. Then I will indulge a little in a piece of white or whole wheat bread with my protein for a day or so...and it ALWAYS seems to do the trick! I guess it's just enough to shake things up and break the stall. After that, it's back to protein and veggies -
Is the pre op diet needed?
Babbs replied to chunkyloverlovesyou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@HalloweenBaby24 I concur. My doc required no pre op diet and you bet your sweet bippy I enjoyed a couple of "food funerals" pre op. Obviously at almost 6 months out I can eat pretty much anything now, except the delicious craft beer I made sure to get my fill of before surgery, so food funerals I've learned now aren't really necessary. But it WAS fun while it lasted! Anyhoo, I'm doing just fine at almost 55lbs lost. -
I was around 800 but soon bumped myself up to 900-1000 because my weight loss was stalling frequently. Seemed to do the trick.

I honestly wish I would have had the bypass as apposed to the sleeve. My GERD has gotten worse and my weight loss is slow. Nothing I can do about it now except keep on keepin on!

Is There Something Wrong With My Scale?
Babbs replied to sukik's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope I'm sure there's nothing wrong with it. I've had a 4lb loss one week after only losing 1-2 lbs a week. Your body is just gonna do what it's gonna do...good and bad! -
I was taking whole pills immediately after surgery. They even gave me my hormone replacement whole in the hospital.

I feel unsupported... Can I do this by myself?
Babbs replied to noorjenna's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sorry your hubby feels that way. I think he may come around once he starts seeing you losing weight and feeling better. If you can use your nanny during recovery, use her for the lifting if your kids, laundry, etc...the heavy lifting was the only thing I needed help with. Otherwise I did a lot of stuff on my own. They encourage you to walk and stuff for healing, anyway, so some light stuff shouldn't hurt. Good luck with your surgery, and I really hope your husband comes around to support you. Please make sure you're finding support somewhere! -
FitnessPal Nutrition Goals
Babbs replied to GingerLeAnna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Fitness Pal won't really let you set up goals the way we as bariatric patients need it set up. You just have to kind of fudge the numbers. I just make sure I get under 50 grams of carbs, 80 grams of Protein, and I don't keep track of fat only calories. I keep my calories between 900-1000, but I'm almost 6 months out. Hope that helps! -

Question about the restriction feeling
Babbs replied to laurashelby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I didn't really get restriction until I full on started with soft foods. I even wondered at times if the doctor even did the surgery, lol. I remember the first time I had refried beans with a little cheese, I could only eat 2 or 3 spoon fulls and boy oh boy did I feel it then! For me, it's not the nice, comfortable full feeling of before surgery. It's a "tightness" feeling almost into your esophagus that says I'm full. I also start burping and even regurgitating ( I have GERD) when I have eaten too much. Hope that helps explain it! -
You're having major surgery. It's always good to be prepared in case something happens. I didn't write letters, but made sure my living will and estate items were in order. I just made sure I told each and everyone I loved them before the surgery

My point is that NONE of us are going to be 100% perfect in our eating all the time. For goodness sake, we have to LIVE. So you go on vacation and overdo it a little? Get back on track the next day. Just because you break one plate unloading the dishwasher, doesn't mean you have to break the rest along with it..... I know I'm a noob and in the "honeymoon" period of my surgery. But I'm also looking at this long term. If, ONCE IN A WHILE, I let my hair down a little and have a good time, I'm going to try to make sure I'm getting right back on track as soon as possible.I KNOW it gets harder as time goes on. But if I'm making good choices 95% of the time, I know I have a chance of keeping the weight off. I don't know. Maybe some of you can bookmark this thread and throw it in my face in a year or two when I'm struggling with maintenance, lol. I only know what I know NOW. UGH. Sometimes the holier than thou attitudes on here are too much.

venting -- emotional rollar coaster
Babbs replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are at a 40 BMI, which is considered morbidly obese. Whether people think you "look" like you don't need surgery or not, the numbers don't lie. I was also at a 40 BMI when I had surgery, and was always told "I wasn't big enough" for surgery. Well, my high blood pressure, bad knees and diabetes disagreed. Now I do 40 minutes of circuit training 3-5 days a week, am off all my meds, and feel like I'm in my 30's again (I'm 47). -
This is for the rest of your life. Once in a while you gotta let your hair down and have a good time, right? Don't beat yourself up! Just get back on track, drink lots of Water to cleanse your system and smile when you remember what a good time you had And butter laden crab claws is something I have all the time, and I'm still losing

I am constantly amazed at how little food I can live on.
Babbs replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ha! I'm self employed also (Realtor) and when I get super busy some days ( the last couple months, YAY) I eat almost EXACTLY like you describe. I love the fact that I actually have to force myself some days to eat more because I'm still losing. Who'd a thunk it?? -
Portion size at 5 weeks after Gastric Plication Surgery
Babbs replied to Erica Camarillo-Ramos's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
PROTEIN FIRST. You seem to be eating food high in carbs and some that could be considered slider foods. Those make you hungry. Fill up on protein, and it will curb your hunger better. Stay away from cheetos, cookies and the like. Just because you can eat it, doesn't mean you should -
Meal planning after surgery with a foodie spouse.
Babbs replied to Hoven's topic in Food and Nutrition
What ever he ends up cooking, just eat the protein and vegetables and stay away from the pasta, potatoes and rice sides. Don't make this more difficult than it needs to be. You will adapt. And he will learn the types of things he needs to cook that both of you can enjoy. Keep it simple. Lean protein and veggies. -
So much THIS. No wonder we can't seem to shake the stigma of WLS with jackasses like that Dr making statements like that. Like I said, the hypocrisy!
-
Ha! The complete and utter HYPOCRISY of that fucking show! They did it the RIGHT way?? I didn't realize exercising 8 hours a day and having 24 hour access to personal chefs and trainers was the RIGHT way?! Well no wonder I had to resort to weight loss surgery! I've been doing things wrong all along! What a crock. It's the exact reason I don't watch that tripe. It's a fucking GAMESHOW. Nothing more, nothing less.
