Aren't you fairly early out after surgery? Fruit has too many carbs and sugars anyway. I'm 6 months out and have only had a banana and some berries. No apples or oranges yet. Like I said, too much sugar for me.

A gain of a pound or 2 have always been part of how I stall. Could be the beginning of a stall, or could just be water retention etc...It's frustrating either way!

@@*Lexie* Gosh it's like you're in my mind! Remember when at first it was all about getting healthy, and now that I'm pretty much there, I can't stop obsessing about getting the rest of this weight off. Its like I wont be happy until I hit goal. I'm not capable of just being happy about how much I've lost and where I'm at now. It's always "Another 10 lbs I'll start looking even better"...it doesn't help that I'm going to Hawaii in less than 2 months and I'm worried I'm not going to be where I want to be because my weight loss has pretty much stalled out. UGH the head games! This 6 week stall has caused me to pretty much go off the rails as of late...

Starting out at age 45? How common?
Babbs replied to KS123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
47 here! 6 months out now. Should be pretty close to goal by my birthday in June! -
Good for you! I too quit smoking about 4 months before my VSG. Sounds like you are getting as prepared as you can be for your upcoming surgery! I'm sure with all your research, you know it's normal to be wishy washy about going through with the surgery, but in the end, most people are thrilled they did it and the only regret they have is they didn't do it sooner! Please keep us posted. We would love to see how everything goes for you!

Now I'm even sadder. I was just reading up about him, and one of his biggest contributions was for women's issues. Specifically equal pay and body acceptance. Here's a quote: "The average American woman weighs 25% more than the models selling the clothes. There is a huge industry around selling women ways to get their bodies closer to the fantasy 'ideal' " He also personally fought to make sure Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) receive equal pay when he learned she wasn't paid as much as everyone else on the show. The man was a cool dude.

I feel the same. I don't usually pay much attention to celebrity deaths, but this one was tough. I grew up watching Star Trek and all the movies. He was an absolute icon, and will be missed. Live long and prosper!

I've seen people still lose weight with little or no exercise, especially someone as young as you are. How about just walking? If the weather is crappy, take a walk around the mall. Point is, meet in the middle. Get back to your basics. Protein first, no simple carbs, or sugar. Drink lots of water and try to do a little walking, and I think your weight loss should start up again. Good luck!

Soup is mostly liquid, also. Liquids go down easier. A quarter of a baked potato sounds about right, maybe a little too much at your stage. As more time goes by post op, you should be able to eat even a bit more. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Just start weighing and measuring everything and eat that amount. Why push it?
-
I'm sorry that must be so hard! I can tolerate most protein quite well, and can eat about 3-6 oz depending what it is. I am also 6 months out. You should give your surgeon a call and see what they say. You shouldn't be having such a hard time with all protein at this point. It doesn't sound right to me so give them a call!

Bougie Size- disappointed
Babbs replied to hanginthere's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Whole bag of Cheetos and popcorn? No, you won't lose as much weight as you should be. Has nothing to do with bougie size or how much stomach he took out. Sorry. -
POST OP DIET - Need help!
Babbs replied to Taraashley04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love a lot of her recipes for pureed food! My favorite is her ricotta bake! Here's the link: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html -
It took me 6 months after VSG to get to your mindset. Bravo, young lady! Keep us posted when you have your surgery! You're going to do just fine

Plateau Already! only 12 days post-op
Babbs replied to Veeta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, and I know you're only about a week out, but the body doesn't care. The reasons you're stalling at this time are the same as if it was 3 weeks or a month. It just needs a break -

Babbs replied to Veeta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing nothing wrong. It's something so common, it even has a name. Search in the forums for "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall". You will find a plethora of information about why it happens to almost everyone at around 3 weeks. Hang in there, it will pass -
Google The World According to Eggface. She has a bunch of great recipes for the pureed stage. My favorite is her Ricatta Bake

What Gets You Off Track?
Babbs replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ha! I know you know you're preaching to the choir, sister! -
Easy answer. Transfer addiction. Basically exchanging one addiction (food) to another (alcohol). You being aware you may be at risk is a good start.

Weight Loss Surgery: The Easy Way?
Babbs replied to MichiganChic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Has it been easier to control my over eating with the sleeve? Absolutely! Has losing weight been easier with the sleeve? Yes and no. The first few months, when the weight just "falls" off with little or no effort at all is where I believe we as WLS patients have the advantage. After that, at least in my case, I have to work just as hard on my weight loss as a non surgery person. Also in my case, I am averaging less weight loss at this point than I was using conventional dieting methods. So yes, at first the weight loss is easy, but there is such a short window of time where that happens, we are working just as hard as any other person on a conventional "diet". In my case at least. I know there are a few that have a much easier time of it losing the weight, but I see more who are in my boat who fight for every single pound lost. -
Did you develop GERD or did it get worse after VSG?
Babbs replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a problem with "regurgitation" before, no heartburn or anything, and was diagnosed with GERD (years before my surgery). I did not realize until after the fact that it had a chance of getting worse with the sleeve (surgeon never bothered to mention it to me). Guess I should have done my homework, because it definitely got worse with the sleeve. Not only am I regurgitating still, I am now experiencing heartburn and acid coming up when I'm laying down in bed, causing me to gag and choke. He kept me on liquids after surgery for 6 weeks, hoping my sleeve would "loosen up" a little and relieve the symptoms, but to no avail. I am on Omeprazole 2X a day, and that seems to help a little, but I know I am going to have to eventually see a Gastroenterologist and see what they can do. Like CowgirlJane said, I can definitely control the severity of it by how fast, how much, and what I eat. For right now, I'm concentrating on losing the weight and seeing if that helps relieve some of the symptoms. If not, to the Gastro I go! Converting to a bypass at this point is not even on my radar until I can exhaust all other options, but we shall see! Good Luck to you! **Edit** I really believe that, had I known that GERD sometimes got worse with the sleeve, I would have opted for the bypass. But hindsight is 20/20 -
Your stomach looks a-maz-ing!

I was literally drooling thinking about a bowl of cereal right now....it is definitely a trigger food for me, too, so no mas! At least not for a while. Oh Captain Crunch, how I miss you....
