  1. @LeeBee17@DevineMissM@VioletAura@Sandi in FL Awesome job on your progress so far! I'm in the same boat too at 7 months (August 22) out...BIG slow down in the weight loss. Only lost 2 in February and 4 so far this month but don't think I'm gonna lose anymore because the scale hasn't moved the last couple of weeks( actually it did...I GAINED A half pound) SO FRUSTRATING because I am a stickler and kill myself with exercise 3-5 days a week. Must be a normal thing that happens around this time, hu? I'm also a slow loser anyway, so double frustrating! At this rate, I won't hit goal by my year surgiversary. Oh well. It's not a race, right?
  2. Let me just say, when I see an overweight or obese person, my thoughts are NOT that I am any better than them. Heck, I'm still overweight! I think people who would love to share their success with WLS just wants them to be as happy and hopefully successful as they have been. I don't see any shaming to it at all. It's just like with ex-smokers or people in AA. Once the person stops the harmful behavior, they feel they should share it with the world. Some can be downright obnoxious about it, lol. I'm an ex smoker, but I know I'm not going to lecture people on the dangers of smoking. They know it already. So do people who are overweight. That's why I said in an earlier post I may THINK it, but I would NEVER say it unless they were asking. They will only do it when they are ready.
  3. I think that all the time Both my grown kids who are in their 20's are overweight. But I also know by my own experience that no amount of nagging, begging, cajoling, or even educating them about the dangers of being overweight can get people to do something about it until they are READY to do something about it. That's why I don't do it with people, including my kids. They know the toll it took on my health. Right now I can only lead by example and hope they follow suit someday. But yes, I WANT to take people by the shoulders all the time and say "Take care of yourself NOW before it's too late!"

SERIOUSLY? REALLY? YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

What? This is just a normal discussion on an internet forum. In any internet forum there are disagreements and hurt feelings. Although, maybe some on this particular forum may be a little more sensitive than normal because of the emotional toll being overweight and/or having major surgery can cause. SO. MUCH. THIS.
  6. No need for food funerals, really. I had one too not realizing that 7 months post op I can eat pretty much anything I want. I just choose not to. Okay, except for the beer. Oh how I miss a nice micro brew

Tell me what makes YOU special.

Yes, yes you are awesome And I had the good sense to marry my perfect mate, also. 26 years in April
  8. @@Jess22 Are you tracking your calories? Protein? Water? I would suggest getting back to basics and make sure you're getting 60-80 grams of protein a day, 800- 1000 calories a day, and 64oz of water. If you are having trouble with keeping that down at 8 months out, I would suggest a visit with your surgeon just to make sure there isn't a problem. You should easily at this point be able to get at least 900 calories and all (or most) of your water in.
  9. @@Dabliss111114 I hate exercise, but I like the way it makes me feel. I don't kill myself (mostly), but I do make sure I get at least 3-4 days a week of exercise. I look at it as a necessary evil. I need it to lose weight and build muscle as I do it, and once I'm in maintenance to maintain the weight loss and stay healthy. Once I realized it was just something I had to do and made it as part of my routine as showering or brushing my teeth it seemed to get easier to do every other day. Try looking at it that way to make it a little easier. It's not just for the weight loss. It should be for life.

Tell me what makes YOU special.

At 45 years old, I decided I wanted a career change so I went to school to become a Realtor. One of the best decisions I ever made! I have been very successful, and I love being my own boss I also love animals, and I volunteer at a local shelter.

  12. @@Ms. Reid "Deal with it Babe"? Thank you for that very well articulated response regarding the correlation of smoking Marijuana and it's effects on post Bariatric surgery patients. I also appreciated your well thought out response and obvious expertise about the dangers of addiction and addiction transfer post WLS. Your critical thinking skills must be the envy of all your peers. I'll bet you're fun at parties.
  13. I would hardly call once a week an addiction? So someone who has a glass of wine or a beer once a week is addicted? Your ignorance and prejudice about Marijuana is showing....

    So losing...

Yeah, you're about where I am. And yes, I've been struggling with my weight loss since about 5 months post surgery. I lose a pound, gain 2. Lose 1, gain 1. Stall for weeks, lose 2. Repeat. This is my life right now. And I am a stickler with the program, and also exercise 3-4 days a week. I try to shake things up by upping my calories and Protein, Water, exercise less, exercise more, but the pattern seems to stay the same. I just think our bodies are constantly adjusting and the weight loss will be slow going the less you have to lose. But maybe try changing things up a bit, or as someone suggested, make an appointment with your NUT and see if they can suggest anything? Good Luck!

    So losing...

How close are you to goal? I am also considered a "slow loser". I was actually on track until about 5 months post op, then it slowed WAYYY down. But at this point, I've also lost about 69% of my excess body weight, so it's expected for things to slow down the closer you get to goal. I think it sounds like you're doing just fine. It really irritates me when doctors say stuff like that to their patients!
  16. It's just me and hubby right now (kids are grown. YAY!) and we eat out a lot. This has been the challenge for me, also. How do those of you who log handle that? I usually just "guestimate", but yes, it bothers me to no end. I log off and on, and if I can't do it accurately, then why do it at all? I love the UPC scan thing on MFP, because it's fool proof. A restaurant? Not so much.
  17. If he's so damned concerned about you being "happy and healthy" why doesn't he start with your emotional health and stop nagging and berating you about your weight? No, he hasn't. An "ideal husband" doesn't make his spouse feel less than. For whatever reason. Love isn't mean. Love doesn't berate and put down. Love doesn't nag. Do yourself a favor and get some therapy before you decide to do WLS. Things aren't going to magically get better because you lost some weight. It's so much more complicated than that. The emotional work needs to be done, also.
  18. What a great post! This is what this surgery is all about! You are adorable and you look absolutely wonderful!

    CANT DEAL

I was having issues with some major reflux after surgery, so each time I would go into the doctor in hopes he would progress me to the next stage, I was told "2 more weeks on liquids to see if we can get this reflux under control"... That went on for SIX WEEKS. Not gonna lie...it SUCKED. I got through it, and you can too! Hang in there! You can do it!

    The Honeymoon is O.V.E.R.

Right there with ya Lost 2 last month, and 4 so far this month, but the scale this morning has me up a pound so that's my tell tale sign I will probably not lose the rest of the month because that's how I stall. Something I did was up my calories to 1000 to try to break the slow weight loss and stalls. Well, it seemed to work, because at least the scale moved for a couple weeks straight until now. Shake things up and increase your calories a little and see if that helps? Oh, and I also do a lot of cardio and weight training. Increase your cardio a little, too?
  21. @@CanyonBaby No worries, really. Pay no attention to the people who minimize what you do day in and day out. It's honorable, and I find most people who have a problem with stay at home mom's are just jealous they can't do it themselves For the record, I am not a constant tracker, either. I only track during a stall to hone in on what I can do differently. When I'm losing, I don't feel the need. Oh, and I am a Realtor....so I work from home, too
  22. Devil's advocate here... I don't think he was saying housewives didn't do anything all day. I think he was saying if he has time to track and exercise with a job outside the home, then people who stay home should also have time to track and do what they need to do for their own success. Don't be so sensitive. We all know that stay at home mom's can work just as hard and have issues with time management as someone who works outside the home.
  23. I just want to make it clear that I WAS NOT telling her to "just get over" her depression post surgery. Believe me, I know and understand depression. I have been a clinically depressed person on and off medication most of my life. A truly depressed person can't just "snap out of it" at will without professional help. I advised the OP to seek help. She can only benefit from it. The thing I take issue with is regret. What good is regret? The choice has been made, there is no going back. So why not make the best of it? Get therapy, move forward toward a better, healthier life. Here's a quote I love about regret: "You can never regret anything you do in life. You kind of have to learn the lesson from whatever the experience is and take it with you on your journey forward." That quote, in a nutshell, was the point I was making in my original post.
