Appreciation for the Vets
Babbs replied to SmilingBeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a vet quite yet I'm still learning, too! I suppose that's why I don't understand when people who are so new to this and have questions don't want to listen because they may not like or want to hear the answers being given. There is so much knowledge on this site to be had, if we are just willing to open our minds and LISTEN. I may not always agree, but I will always take what the vets say to heart because I know they've been there. I also think that's the key to my success so far. Now if you're looking for me to justify behaviors I know are detrimental to your success or even potentially harmful? Not gonna happen. Otherwise I'm always willing to lend an ear. And you've got the correct mindset to succeed. -
Anyone whose goal weight is less than 100 pounds?
Babbs replied to Essence46's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on my 8th month, and have lost 63. My surgery was August 22nd, so I was hoping to hit goal by my year, but not sure if it's going to happen. At this point, I have good months and bad (as far as losing). I did well last month, losing 6lbs, but this month is looking like it may be a bust, as I seem to be holding steady in April so far. I'm wanting to lose 85lbs in total. -
Am I going through STARVATION MODE?!
Babbs replied to x0CheekzVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL! Go to bat for @@LipstickLady?? Um, I don't think she needs ANYBODY to go to bat for her! If "going to bat" means agreeing with her, then yes. Her first advice was spot on, but because you felt she has a "tone', you chose to dismiss it. Like I said, we are just trying to help, and some of you newbies make it very hard when you automatically become defensive and combative when you don't automatically get the answer you want to hear. I gave you friendly advice. Listen to the people who have been there and done that, because they really do know what they are talking about. I think that's some pretty sound advice if you ask me. -
Where does it go? Where does the fat and inches go? Do they pack their bags and catch another victim off guard?
Babbs replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's funny you say that. I had a really good friend years ago who had major issues with overweight and obese people. She got the attitude from her mother, who once told me (when I was about the size I am now, by the way) that if she was as big as I was, she "would never leave the house". Anyway, she went on to have children, and 2 out of the 3 of them have weight issues. I am no longer friends with this person (for obvious reasons), but I can't help thinking what must be being said to those poor kids. I just found it kind of ironic that people with such weight biases end up having overweight children. Karma, I guess -
I understand what he was saying, and maybe I'm just projecting. But jeez, it seems nothing is ever good enough. You bust your ass to lose the weight and get to what you and your doctor deem as a "healthy" BMI, and yet it's STILL not good enough if your body fat content is too high. And I know a lot of people on this site who would love to be just "average" at this point. I would have too 8 months ago..... Meh. I'm tired and grumpy.

She's a size sexy.

IF the sleeve happened to stretch (which I think only happens with a pouch with RNY) it takes YEARS of constant overeating to complete uncomfortable fullness every day of your life. You know what prevents the sleeve from stretching? Don't do that. What a concept.
-
Are stats on your profile current? If so, you are still 100 pounds from goal, and your stomach will keep shrinking the more weight you lose. Just may be one of the last areas to go. I know it is on me! I'm looking to lose 20+ more, but I know in order to have a completely flat tummy, I will need surgery. In the mean time I'm exercising and losing more weight, so I will cross that bridge when I get there. You should do the same. Don't stress about it!

Am I going through STARVATION MODE?!
Babbs replied to x0CheekzVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@x0CheekzVSG The surgeons and NUTS don't give you Protein goals just for shits and giggles. There's a reason. At a week out, you are not at the point of worrying about what you sleeve wants and doesn't want. Your sleeve is still healing, so you won't have any kind of normal feelings of hungry or not hungry. At first it's all about HEALING, and you need protein and Fluid to heal. All that other stuff you are talking about comes way later down the road. Just do your best to meet your liquid and protein goals right now. I suggest when you ask for advice in the future, you actually listen to it instead of getting short with people? We are just here to help.... -
@@B-52 You post sounded douchey. I'm not in this to become an elite athlete with 10% body fat. If I feel comfortable at 150 pounds and my numbers health wise look good, I'll be happy. And coming in a thread where someone is celebrating that they are average by saying average in America is still a fat lard is just rude.

@@LipstickLady You have gorgeous hair! Did you lose any during the process?

LOL...don't we all?

Perfect. From now on, that's what I'm telling people, too.

Hahahaha. Mine's boring. My name is Barbara. I'm not a very original person

I've been working out like crazy, and I find it interesting how different the weight loss is compared to my non working out weight loss many times before. Before, at the weight I'm at now, and just walking and barely working out, I was wearing a 12-14. Now at this weight, I'm a 10-12. Yay for muscle tone! I think I look pretty good in clothes right now, but I look at myself naked and YEESH. I keep wondering if the 20+ more pounds I want to lose will make a difference in the way I see myself. I just don't know. I know I've come this far, so I want to go all the way at this point and get to my goal of 150. It may take me 6 months, but gosh darn it, I'm going to do it!

Awwww, hang in there! Your new journey is right around the corner! And yes, I'm a total wreck without caffeine! I'm sure the withdrawal has a lot to do with your mood. I'm going to Hawaii for the fist time around the time you're having your surgery, and I'm going to go scuba diving and will be hiking up to a volcano. Things I know I couldn't or wouldn't have done before surgery Hope you start to feel better and good luck with your upcoming surgery! Keep us posted!

Anyone getting sleeved on April 16th... Help ! I am in danger of chicken inc out... Again ????
Babbs replied to VSG77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The complication rate from sleeve surgery is much lower than the complication rate from obesity. As you get older, the body is much less forgiving about carrying around all that extra weight. It may not be today, but down the road, you are bound to run into some medical issues due to obesity. This surgery is a huge commitment though, and if you don't feel you are ready than so be it. It's kind of like having kids. You should be ready and know exactly what you're getting into because it's a lifetime commitment -
Starting My C25K Adventure - Looking for Advice
Babbs replied to joatsaint's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I just realized about a week ago I was doing a Couch to 5K and didn't even realize it! I had heard of the program, but didn't know what it was. About 6 weeks ago, I decided to change things up in my workout and start cardio to get past a stall. Each day, each week, I would push myself to run "just one minute more" and now I'm up to 10 minutes without stopping. It helped with the stall, too, as I lost 6lbs in March at 7 months post surgery! Here's the best part....I'm actually ENJOYING it. And I'm also almost 48 years old! Maybe shoot for a 5K for my 50th Birthday? We will see -

When Did You Start Soft / Pureed Foods?
Babbs replied to ssourgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started pureed's when my surgeon told me it was okay to start. I had re fried Beans with some melted cheese. And it was heavenly -
@@foreversleeved08 Yeah, you aren't eating enough to gain You're doing great! Just keep working on upping your Protein and Water, move a little and it will pass. And yes, I gain weight during stalls, too If the weight fluctuations bother you, try only weighing once a week or 2. Those fluctuations will drive you crazy!
-
I would suggest cutting out the carby food and concentrate more on lean protein. For now, try to stay away from pasta, bread, rice etc...protein is more filling so you should be satisfied longer. Carbs create hunger.
-
@@Hertsukfem31 Silly You're doing just fine. Stalls are normal, especially at 3 weeks so don't freak out. Keep yourself as hydrated as you can, get as much Protein as you can and it will pass. I promise. And EAT ( the right things). It's good for you right now! Oh, and I said AT LEAST 500 calories. If you can do 800 right now, that's okay. That's great. It may get harder as you start consuming more "real" food and feel more restriction.
-
@@tnf0920 Do you have a Nutritionist your surgeon set you up with? I guarantee the people who have had successful weight loss ate or eat every 2- 4 hours to keep their metabolism and energy up. You need to be getting at least 500 calories right now and eventually work your way up to 800-1000 months down the road. You do not have a normal body anymore. You have to pack as much nutrition you can into your little tummy to make it count, or frankly your body will suffer. You also will not lose weight to your potential. And NO, your sleeve will not stretch. You said you only ate when you were hungry before. Well, here you are 3 weeks out from WLS, so obviously it wasn't working for you. Now is the time to listen to people who have been there and do what you need to do to make this surgery work for you. Or not. Your choice.

Search "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" either on Google or this forum. VERY common, happens to most. Your body is just taking a break. Keep drinking your fluids, getting your protein and move a little and it will pass. Might be your first, won't be your last
