  1. Well THAT escalated quickly....
  2. I'm 47 too, and HATED exercise pre surgery. I am now running 2 miles a day and weight training. Yeah, I get sore once in a while with the usual 47 year old aches and pains, but it's a GOOD sore. Like I actually accomplished something I never thought I would sore.
  3. @@Band07 May I ask why you're getting a revision? Is it due to reflux?
  4. @@Band07 That pic is interesting. I don't really know what I'm looking at, either, but you can tell a difference for sure. Revising to what? Bypass? Yes, keep us posted! I'm interested as to what he says about your sleeve size. I was told by my surgeon that sleeves do not stretch either. Maybe they are blowing smoke up our butts so we don't get discouraged?
  5. It doesn't stretch. The swelling from the surgery goes down and you are able to eat more without feeling as much restriction. This is a gradual effect as months go by. The part of the stomach that is left after surgery is the less "stretchy" part. You would have to eat to the point of vomiting every day for a long time to get your sleeve to stretch even a little, unlike the pouch from a bypass that can stretch quite a bit over time with overeating. I never took 45 minutes to eat, never chewed my food to a paste, and now can drink 16 oz of Water in about 10 minutes or so. And I still have great restriction at 8 months out. Keep in mind the amount of restriction you have depends on what you are eating. The denser the Protein, the better restriction you'll have. Things like crackers, Cookies, and chips will cause little or no restriction. If you keep to the rules of the sleeve ( no drinking before or after eating after a certain amount of time, measuring your food and stopping when satisfied not full, protein first, then veggies, then if you have room starch) you will have restriction even after your stomach has healed and loosened up a bit months and even years down the road.
  6. Totally normal. It's the three week or so stall that most people go through. Don't stress. It will pass. Read the link to explain why they happen and why they are completely normal. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php
  7. When.my husband lost over 100 pounds 9 years ago with the RNY, he was hearing those comments all the time. When he mentioned to his surgeon that people were telling him he was "too skinny", his surgeon just said: "There are so many overweight and obese people these days, nobody even knows what a normal weight is supposed to look like anymore." Made sense to me.

47 year old female here from Boise! Married for 26 years as of yesterday to a great guy! Two grown kids, son 25, daughter 27 and married ( just furry grand babies so far). Lived in the West (Oregon, California, Idaho) my whole life, and Boise has been my favorite place to live so far Lived here for 15 years. I decided I needed a change of career (after many years in the HR field) and at 45 years old, decided to get my license to become a Realtor, and it's been great! Had the Sleeve in August of last year, and feel better right now than I did at 30. I exercise more than I did then, too I've fallen in love with running, and just recently have gotten up to 2 miles a day. My goal is to run my first 5K by the time I'm 50. I also really enjoy this site and the wonderful people on it. It has been my lifeline and my support, and I love learning and helping others learn all they can about this crazy journey we have all decided to embark on!
  9. I don't think all people that don't exercise are "lazy". Unmotivated maybe, but not lazy.
  10. You can still go to lunch early out. Just order a cup of soup, chili, or something like that. You'll be eating more "normal" foods as early as a couple months out. Just order fish, chicken, beef (although beef is hard for some) and a veggie. Leave the starch and the bread alone. Take what you don't eat home. See? Easy. I go to a lot of business lunches for my job, also. I used to stress about if they were noticing how much (or in our case, how little) I was eating. Turns out, nobody notices or even cares. For all they know, you're on a diet.

    TODDLERS

You should be fine to take care of them as soon as you get home. They encourage you to move around, anyway. You will have to arrange for someone to help out with the lifting of them, laundry, etc for a few weeks until you get cleared for lifting. You will be pretty tired and sore the first week, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Granted, I didn't have 2 year old toddlers to take care of, either I was working from home the week I got home from the hospital. I went to a final walk through and a closing of a house the same week (Realtor).

    Normal progression ?

It's normal for you Keep your Protein, Water and spirits high, and the weight loss will go at the rate your body wants it to. You're doing great.
  14. Got it. So to to have a little bit better muscle mass and achieve a little more weight loss, I just need to exercise 6 hours a day. Excuse me while I tell my husband that being at the gym is now my full time job. I'm sure he will understand.

    weight loss slow down

@@davesblond *Raises hand* Yup, right at 6 months I hit about a 6 week stall. I see quite a few sleevers slow down or stall around that time, also. Pretty typical. I would suggest trying to change things up a little with your diet and exercise. Maybe try upping your calories a bit, and try eating different kinds of foods (not too carby, though). If you are exercising, exercise more. Or change it up a little. Our bodies kind of get complacent after a while, and need the shock of a little change to get things moving again. Good luck!
  16. I, along with several other sleevers, don't count fat grams at all...just Protein and calories. Although I do try to eat lean protein whenever possible, I also eat real butter, full fat dressings, yogurt etc....just do smaller amounts. You have to be careful with the "low fat, no fat" thing...there is a lot of hidden sugars and processed crap they use for that stuff! And besides, the real stuff tastes better anyway
  17. Babbs

    Daily Protein Requirements?

Here's something that will ease your mind...you WILL NOT be able to get 100 grams of protein in as early out as you are, especially on full liquids. It will be much easier when you start "real" food. Hell, I'm almost 8 months out and I still don't get 100 grams. I usually shoot for 70. You're sleeve is still super swollen right now, so just do the best you can and try not to stress so much! And stay off that scale for a while! Check it in a week or two and you will see weight loss. Sometimes fluids from surgery likes to hang on for a while and make it 'seem' like you're not losing. But you are
  18. Oh my gosh I totally understand! After over 60 pounds and almost 8 months later, I FINALLY cleaned out my closet this weekend because I was putting it off. It was this weird subconscious thing thinking I may need the clothes that don't fit again or something. That and the fact that I had SO MANY nice clothes in larger sizes and seriously have spent tons of money on some of them (I'm a Realtor, so a lot of professional type clothes). Now my huge closet looks so bare! But now someone else can enjoy them, and I'm going to enjoy going shopping for smaller sizes
  19. Truer words have never been spoken. I'm convinced the United States started getting fatter when that damn pyramid came out (like the mid 70's?) with grains as the base on the bottom. I don't think that is coincidence.
  20. I lost like a demon my first three months on WWs every time. Losing was never the issue. I couldn't MAINTAIN it. You are so right. I will be curious to see her maintenance as a opposed to my maintenance. It will be a good litmus test on maintenance percentages of WLS patients VS non WLS peeps. When we were talking about getting to goal and maintenance a while back, she had said "Well, we are both really good at maintaining our weight..." After being utterly speechless for a second or two, I said "If we were really good at maintaining our weight, I wouldn't have had WLS and you wouldn't have to be joining WW's for the umpteenth time" She laughed and agreed.
  21. @@onmywaytobeingfound Oh BELIEVE ME, I have whined about my slow weight loss plenty on here I've honestly accepted it and just keep living my healthy lifestyle, and if I lose the weight along with it, just icing on the cake I'm happy with my results.
  22. @@onmywaytobeingfound Here's an example. My sister, who is older than me and has been doing Weight Watchers for the last 3 months and is now the same weight as I am, has lost more weight than I have (I figure about 12 lbs more) in the same amount of time. She does strictly cardio (elliptical), and has consistently lost 1-3lbs per week with no stalls. I'm honestly not whining. Just perplexed.
  23. Here's a question I've been pondering as I'm going through yet another one of my countless stalls while eating 1000-1200 calories a day and running 2 miles day on the treadmill along with weights. Can WLS destroy our metabolism? Can eating SO low calorie for so long actually counteract it and now we can only lose on a very low calorie diet? Is that why we see WLS patients gain weight so easily once they slack off just a little? What are your guys' thoughts?

    Anybody else losing slowly?

@@Albinofrog I am asking honestly here, and not judging, but how much weight were you expecting to lose in a month? Have you ever lost 22lbs in 1 month before? You are doing just fine. Don't worry about what is "normal". If you're doing what you're supposed to be doing and still losing, you're doing just great! This isn't a race. It's a lifestyle.
