  1. One of the many times I was on a diet as a teenager, my mom prepared me fried fish and creamed spinach because she said it was "healthy". I ate it happily, thinking "Wow, fish and spinach! If I keep eating like this, I'll lose 5 pounds in no time!" Honestly, back then,(1980's) we really didn't know any better, lol. Her intentions were good. May she rest in peace.
  2. I've created a monster, lol. Clothes, shoes, mannies, pedi's....did I mention clothes?? When you can finally wear the cute stuff in the "normal" size section, shopping becomes kind of a....ahem....problem. So now I only use it as a reward for my little victories.

    5 days post op help

Like @ so elequently said, you just had major surgery. You're going to feel like poo for the next month or so. To make matters worse, this surgery requires starvation practically. So yeah. Hang in there. Each week that goes by you will start to feel somewhat human again
  4. @@Chrystee Yeah, I agree with you. There is the starvation mode phenomenon that happens. From months 4-6, I stalled all the time and lost very slowly. VERY frustrated. Then I decided after some advice on this site to increase my calories by quite a bit. Since then, I've lost very steadily. And yes, most people, including me, at first think they are the only ones in the whole world that aren't going to lose the weight after WLS. I think it's from all our previous failures at dieting.
  5. @@remzel Yes, it is very difficult. But you'll get there. That's why every time I hear someone say we "took the easy way out" I want to punch them in the face.
  6. It's hard to get used to at first, but you are going to get to a point where food will not be the focus of every celebration and holiday. It's more about enjoying the moments and the company you're with. You learn to find other ways of celebrating that don't center around just food. May as well start now. I think the Magic Mike movie night idea sounds just great! I'm old enough to be your mom, but can I go?? I might be old, but I'm not dead.

@@Krystyneh Go mama! You're going to be so happy you did this. Save those pics to post for your first update side by side pics! You're going to be amazed what a difference even month post surgery will make!
  8. @@jane13 I know it's the thought that counts, and your Aunt sounds very supportive and sweet, but REALLY?! Who would wear that in public?? I think you should snap a pic of yourself wearing it for us when you reach your goal weight. Just for fun
  9. Lol! Yup. That was my problem too. If it barely fit and got dried, forget it. What a waste, hu?
  10. I used to hang dry everything because it would "shrink" in the dryer and no longer fit. Little did I know it was just me getting bigger. Now I can just wear everything right out of the dryer because it didn't magically shrink!

I really love these forums because...

I sent him over to the flounce thread. I sure hope he doesn't think it's ALWAYS like that around here.... Now I'm regretting linking that thread....

@ I don't know if you've had the pleasure of coming across this thread yet, but you're gonna really bust a gut. One of my favorites. It's long, but so worth the laughs.... http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/335674-seriously-really-you-cant-be-serious/page-7?hl=%2Bflounce#entry3787761

Hello! How are you feeling? Honestly, I couldn't have done this without the knowledge, humor and friendships I've found on this forum. I can't even explain how much knowledge I've gained! It's part of what I beleive has made me successful so far. I've been called one of the big meanies on here at times because I don't mince words. There are a few of us. But honestly, we all have nothing but our fellow WLS peeps best interests at heart. We've been there. We understand how hard this whole thing can be at times. And we Celebrate the victories. Sure, there's going to be disagreements, but ultimately in the end, we are all in this together Welcome and keep posting on how you're doing!
  15. @carolm1965@Djmohr I'm sorry guys. I didn't realize she was a bypass! Yes, as a sleever I would eat it becuase as a rule we don't dump. @@Daisee68 I see you had some and scraped the breading off. Sorry I didn't realize you were a bypass. But aside from the possible dumping, a few carbs from a little tortilla breading won't hurt. Like I said, just choose the parmesan stuff next time

    Self Destruction

I don't have much to add to the great advice you got here, except aknowledge your post and suggest another book: The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia Alexander Great book regarding emotional eating, an easy read, and you can get it on e book on Amazon or Kindle. Good luck tomorrow!
  17. I say go for it. A tad high in carbs, but like you said, you won't eat all of it in one sitting. Next time opt for the parmesan crusted talapia. A little less carbs. But I love those talapia fillets! I eat them all the time! But I can eat a whole one now

    Depressing 4th of July

You'll have a burger next year. I had a burger yesterday. No bun, topped with a small piece of cheese, onion, tomato and pickle. It was delicious! The best part? I was too full to eat anything else. You'll get there. I know it doesn't seem like it, but you'll be eating bariatric versions of normal food in no time.
  19. There have been studies as of late basically saying that losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I know my husband who had a Gastric Bypass 9 years ago lost 120lbs without any formal excerise. He was very active, and kept busy all the time, but never exercised. He also had zero muscle tone when he got to his goal weight. Me? I walked the first 6 months, and then joined a gym after my weight loss slowed. After I did a C25k type program, I fell in love with running. Now I run 3 miles 3-4 days a week. I also lift weights to tone, and have been getting decent results. Since I started running, my weight loss has also sped up and been pretty consistent every month. Who knows if there is a correlation. I do know this. If you want to be thin, you eat right. If you want to be thin and healthy, you eat right and exercise.
  20. As long as you are following your plan, there are going to be normal fluctuations in your weight. Could be bloating from too much salt, hormonal changes, being backed up (poop)....who knows. It takes a lot to gain "real" weight at your point from just overeating. It's almost impossible, because you just can't eat enough to right now (unless your grazing like ALL DAY). As long as you understand the scale will fluctuate when you weigh daily and you won't let it ruin your day by seeing it, then yes, by all means weigh daily. If you don't want to see them, weigh weekly.
  21. @@B-52 So you don't consider 2 years post op a veteran?? So what's your definition? Maintenance for a certain amount of time? 3 years? 5 years? Just curious.
  22. There's a huge difference between not knowing what you're getting into, and willful ignorance. The latter of the two is where I get annoyed. Don't ask me to justify your bad choices. Especially if you are newly post op and can damage something by said bad choices. I mean, let's not kid ourselves into thinking that all these people have not had some kind of guidance before surgery. Some no, but most have. So in my opinion, most are just asking for justification to go against their plan. I'm not going to pat them on the head and give them a "there, there". Sometimes a little tough love is in order.

    Caffeine?

I've been drinking caffeine since 4 weeks post op. I'm a stickler for the rules usually, but this was the one thing I was not willing to give it up. I try to limit to 2 cups a day.

    Any regrets?

My GERD got worse due to the sleeve. I am on heavy duty doses of a PPI, and have had several endoscopy's done since surgery. I was on liquids for 6 weeks straight after surgery due to constant regurgitation of anything I drank or ate. I still regurgitate food and drink up if I eat too much (and sometimes when I don't) Sometimes if I eat too late in the day and go to bed, I wake up due to a burning Fluid coming back up into my throat. I carry tums with me everywhere I go in case I get one of my bouts of heartburn due to something I ate that didn't quite agree with me. I don't regret my surgery for a second.
