    Scared of carbs?

As a rule, ESPECIALLY in the honeymoon phase of WLS ( up to 18 months post surgery) you will still probably lose weight eating a few carbs. But as early out as you are, you should be eating protien and veggies, leaving little room for carbs (bread, crackers, etc). Protien is most important right now becuase you have such little real estate in your tummy, you gotta eat what counts. Those carbs from white stuff gives you no nutritional value right now. Another thing about a WLS person eating carbs is that it can be a slippery slope. Sure, you can't eat very much right now, but the sleeve relaxes after a while, and a few crackers turn into a box (these are also considered slider foods because more can be eaten) I don't know about you, but I could easily polish off a box of Cookies once I get going. That's why I choose to stay away. They also make me crave more carbs and sugar, and the next thing you know, you're stalled or gaining. No thanks! You will have plenty of time to introduce a few carbs the closer you get to goal and then maintenance. For now take advantage of this ever so important time when you're able to lose weight easily and minimize the carbs and get your protien and veggies first! After all, we all didn't get fat eating chicken and broccoli, did we?

Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused

Some days I'm hungrier than others, so I'll have a snack or two. On the not hungry days, I skip them. I'm learning to listen to what my body wants. My Snacks consist of cheese sticks, Jerky or nuts.
  4. @@PChayy05 Try some of these: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html The Ricatta Bake is yummy!
  5. You are correct in the sense that the lower starting BMI, the slower the weight loss. But even with your starting weight, 50 pounds in 3 months is not slow. It averages out to 16 pounds a month. I'm just curious, how much were you expecting to lose in 3 months? What was the average your surgeon expected? @@leag78
  6. I am sitting 6 pounds from my goal right now. At my current rate of loss, I may hit goal the end of August. That will put me at a year for 85 pounds. Slower, but I'll get there! I used to fret about my slow weight loss, but in the end, it doesn't matter

    Warning: Fresh/frozen cherries

I'm 11 months out, and enjoying the heck out of fresh cherries this summer. No problems at all. Probably like someone said, too soon for you.
  8. Lol! @leag78....ONLY 50 pounds in 3 months?? I've got news for you....that's not slow. I'd lost a little over 50 pounds at 6 months. And I've lost 28 pounds since (5 months later) THAT'S slow.

    Liver Biopsy

I haven't heard of having a liver biopsy unless they get in there and see something they need to biopsy? It's not typical with most surgeons, I do know that!
  10. Why won't you ever eat that stuff again? I'm 11 months out, and I've had wings, cake and Pasta. Do I make a habit of it? Hell no, but once in a while on special occasions I've done it. Truth is, you will (hopefully) get to the point where you are losing weight and feeling so good, you don't want to eat the junk anymore. It just becomes second nature to choose healthier alternatives. And actually, as long as wings aren't fried, they really aren't a bad choice Good protien! Having second thoughts is totally normal. Especially thinking you're going to "miss" certain foods. Number one, you won't, because once you heal up you can have any food you want if you so choose. Number two, I choose to eat healthy 98% of the time because I enjoy feeling and looking like I'm 20 years younger. I also enjoy wearing a size 8. Good Luck with your surgery!

Should I take the money and run?!

On another note, I was watching The Golden Girls the other day, and realized to my horror that the actress who played Blanche was only a few years older than I am now when she started the show. Yes. THE GOLDEN GIRLS.

Should I take the money and run?!

@@CanyonBaby Honestly, some places state an age for the senior discount....say like 50 (don't laugh, I've seen them). And if the clerk was younger, EVERYBODY looks old to them If it's offered, I'm taking it!

    Don't judge me!

Okay, I just gotta know..... How did he smell??? I can just imagine. Mmmmmmm.

    Despicable thoughts

I'm sorry, I just have to say..... Why was someone eating a hot dog in a swimming pool?? And how is that even possible?? That is all.
  15. At 11 months out, I go through spurts. Some days I'm starving (especially work out days) and have to be very careful not to over eat. Then I have days where I'm not hungry at all, and food almost repulses me. Today is one of those days. I have to actually force myself to eat today. I don't know how long my spurts will last, but I'll take the "non hungry" days

    Serious Question

Sure....just watch if it has carbonation. Carbonation can HURT! Try to find something lower carb and lower sugar. Skinny Girl makes some good stuff. I had my first drink at 4 months out-a Bloody Mary-and I couldn't finish it and didn't even get a buzz! Since then, I really have no interest, lol. I may pick it back up once I'm to goal.

    Sugar love after sleeve?

The more you stay away from carbs and processed sugar, the less you will crave them. That's how I deal with the cravings. If I do indulge, it takes me days to detox again and get rid of the cravings. It's just easier for me to limit or stay away completely!

    Coffee?

I've been drinking 2 cups a day since about 3 weeks post surgery.

    Calorie/nutrition question

YES. This makes the huge difference!
  20. @@PattyGirl24 You're young and athletic. Your skin and boobs may hold up okay. I also know that tummy tucks hold up well after weight loss, too. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Keep us posted!
  21. Most people have loose skin. No, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it besides trying exercise to tone it up a little. Surgery is always an option once you've hit goal and maintained a while. I think the younger you are, and the less weight you have to lose helps with loose skin, but it's just part of the process for most. Just like with the loose skin, how the girls hold up is also about age and how much you need to lose. But boobs are mostly made up of fatty tissue, so you loose fat, you loose boobs. The more you have to lose, the more boobage you lose. Hopefully you're on the younger side, so they may hold up. hair loss happens to most. Some lose a little, some lose a lot. I started at 5 months, and now at 11 months, it's stopped. I have thick hair, so me and my hairdresser were really the only ones who could tell Once again, not a lot you can do about it. Some will swear by this or that, but nothing has been proven to really stop it or slow it. The common theme? All those things you questioned are pretty much part of the whole WLS process, and there really is not a lot you can do to prevent them. Looking at the big picture, it's a small price to pay to become a healthy, normal weight.

    Is it rude?!

@@CowgirlJane That's an interesting way to look at it. I'm like 48 and married, so I kind of think "Why bother?" But you bring up some good points!
  23. @@LipstickLady You're so lucky. I can already eat more than that. I've noticed quite a difference even this month. Sigh. I will just have to be more careful from here on out. *Sheds tear*
  24. To quote the amazing Miss Mac: Stalls are like lovers. Your first probably won't be your last.
  25. I chose mine also according to "normal" BMI. Mine is the top of normal, but I may go 5 pounds less to give myself some wiggle room
