  1. Awwww glad to see you are doing okay! I know it's hard in the hospital, but try to get some sleep

    Pickles

Stick to your approved foods until you ask your NUT or surgeon. Aren't you on liquids or pureeds at 2 weeks still?! Because a pickle doesn't sound like either.
  3. I never in a million years would I thought I'd be a runner. I HATED running most of my life! Then about 5 months ago I started a C25K program, and fell in love with the idea of pushing myself to see how far I could go with it. This pic was today after running 3.5 miles. I was tired, and standing kind of funny, and I was like "what is that on my calf?" Oh. It's a muscle
  4. @@MrsDixon You must be on the younger side, because being "fat and happy" will only take you so far until the health problems start. Then not only are you fat, but suffering health issues that threaten to shorten your life span considerably. I used to say the "fat and happy" thing too. Then I developed high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes as I got older due to the weight, and after losing both parents at fairly young ages due to heart issues (my dad was 56), I decided I didn't want to be fat and dead.
  5. My goal is 150, and I'm 6 pounds away. I chose that goal becuase it's the highest end of a "normal" BMI. I am currently struggling to get there, as I've been bouncing around 3 pounds for the last three weeks and now I'm just stuck at that weight, stalled. I have technically lost 2 pounds this month. I used to say whether someone got to their goal weight was all up to them. But now I'm more apt to believe there are other factors involved, such as heredity and environment. I posted a great video yesterday about this very subject. The one thing the doctor said at the end resonated with me. He said no matter what number on the scale you end up settling on, whether it be 175, 200, or 150 pounds, in the end it doesn't matter as long as you are happy with your body and have a healthy relationship with food. It's knowing that what you are eating is not making you feel guilty, but making you healthy and happy and able to maintain the weight you're most comfortable with

    I'm Alive!

I was JUST thinking about you yesterday and ready to message you! Hang in there! I think the fact that you haven't gained during this trying time is awesome. Just work on maintaining for now, and then get back to weight loss mode after things settle down for you. We missed you!
  7. Yup, to your point, it doesn't matter if you have a BMI of 36 or a BMI of 50, the extra weight takes the same toll on our bodies. Obesity is an equal opportunity disease
  8. Yes, this. Only in this day and age would people consider a BMI of 36 (which is still considered obese and very unhealthy) "too small for WLS".
  9. @@no onions Yes, and I love it! You really feel like you get a more...what's the word....complete poop. I usually have some trouble with straining to go, but haven't since I've used it!
  10. Although it may be "normal" to go every 2-3 days ( I do) it is more ideal to go every day. If I could get to that point I would be happy! I'm currently working on it by trying to implement more Fiber into my diet. I believe @@BLERDgirl has the right idea. She's also a vegetarian, so her diet is more ideal for the digestive system. Oh, and for the OP and anyone else who struggles to go, I have 2 words for you: Squatty Potty. Look it up, then go buy one. You'll thank me.
  11. Good Luck!! You are going to do great! Don't forget to walk walk walk, sip sip sip! Can't wait to hear back from you when you feel up to it!

  14. You just had major surgery. It takes time to recuperate. Sometimes months. Are you getting enough Protein? Water? How is your calorie intake? You should be getting at least 600-700 by now.
  15. @@akreese02 You can do this! You've done well to this point, just pick up the momentum again and get er done!

    Feeling a bit Overwhelmed

I'm not gonna lie. The first month after surgery pretty much sucks. Not only are you dealing with the aspect of just having major surgery, but you're also dealing with not being able to eat what you want, when you want. And when you do, it can be so uncomfortable and downright hurt! It's a process. Make sure you're chewing really, really well. And yes, you may just have to wait for some foods a little longer. If it makes you feel any better, quite a few people have a problem with eggs. I didn't, but know a lot who did. It's all trial and error at this point. Try different foods on your plan, and see what works and what doesn't for now. Hang in there. It's not always going to be this way. This phase is temporary, and months down the road you will have forgotten all about how overwhelming it all was
  17. It's time to evaluate what you are currently doing, and what you can do differently. And even if it's something you don't really have control over (like some stalls), at least you will feel like you are being proactive to fix it. I've gone through it, and am also currently going through a 2 week stall right now. First, make sure you're tracking. And not half assed (like I have been known to do, lol). Really tracking every morsel that goes into your mouth. I use MFP. Ask your NUT or surgeon (or even people on this site) about how many calories you should be consuming, and stick with it. If you have been tracking and have a set amount of calories, either raise or lower the amount accordingly. If you are not exercising regularly, start. If you are, change it up. I have been doing cardio and a little bit of weights for a few months, and it's been working. Not this month, so I'm going to go back to a circuit type training program using my own body for resistance and raising my heart rate that way. Sometimes, JUST SOMETIMES, I have used carbs to break a stall. When I say carbs I don't mean from fruit, dairy or veggies. I mean the good stuff (sarcasm) from bread, crackers, potatoes, etc...seems the body gets sort of a "shock" from the increased carbs and weight loss starts again. Use with caution! Anyway, there are a couple of ideas. Like I said, I like to be proactive and change things up. Makes me feel like I'm at least doing something to help things along Good Luck!

    Consultation

I have the same issue with my insurance. I'm just going to keep detailed documentation and pictures of any rashes or sores, and document along when I saw a doctor. It takes a little bit of work, but well worth it if you can get your insurance to cover it for you!

    Weight gain

Yup, like @@onthefencejenny said, just normal adjustments the body is going through. You will probably experience a stall here soon, too. Your body is just going a little wacky is all. You are going to flucuate all the time during this journey. If the flucuations are going to drive you crazy, put the scale away so you don't have to see them Here's a good article about why it happens: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php
  24. I agree! What a lucky guy he is having your guys' support! I was never one to make everyone else not eat around me because I may be "tempted". Temptation doesn't stop after the liquid phase. It's all day, every day. Someone who has decided to have the surgery is pretty much agreeing (or at least I would hope) to not give into the things that made us fat in the first place. It's not easy, but just part of the process. But very sweet of you to think about him. And if you think he needs rid of certain foods in the house because it makes him queasy or feels tempted, by all means. But like I said, it's just something he's going to have to get used to
