Feeling Discouraged and Rejected by Family......Need Advice

par1959, Thanks for your post. It is good to hear it went so well, I'll take 10x better. I am worried because I usually don't handle post op pain very well, but I know it is for my health so I am going to get through it.... Thanks again for the encouragement. -

My surgery is considered a revision because I had the Lap Band a few years ago. I am going to Juarez, Mx with Dr. Rodriguez and it is costing me 8500.00, I am paying down 4000.00. It is pricey for Mexico but I will be in the hospital 3 nights. Payments are only 200.00/month. I checked at Dr. Ariel Ortiz and I believe you could get sleeved for 4800.00, but it was in a surgery center, then out to a hotel. -
Feeling Discouraged and Rejected by Family......Need Advice

I am trying NOT to tell anyone, unfortunately I had to tell the 3 people in my life that I see all the time which is my son, daughter in law, and s.o. None of them were happy or supportive. They have finally accepted it since my date is set for June 27. The Mexico thing is what they were fighting me on, but I didn't see any of them handing me the money I needed to stay in the U.S.................. I am not going to tell anyone else, ever, I don't want their judgment on me, nor do I want to hear I took the easy way out. I love my family, but they can bring you down, if allowed. Thanks for all the advice on here. One Protein shake that is really good comes from weight watchers, taste great. I haven't heard anything from my consultant, I guess it's too soon to receive information. Anyone else going to Juarez, MX with Dr. Jose Rodriquez ? I haven't found one negative post on him, so I am happy about my decision.................... -

Biggest regrets about getting the sleeve?
Movinon replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a pre-op. I have been watching all the videos, and very few say they are in a lot of pain, however, it is major surgery. Can anyone weigh in on the level of pain post op ? -
Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?
Movinon replied to Travelmego's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
May I ask, how did you know the surgeon's nose was uncovered ? You should have been under anesthesia. If there were ANY sterile packets opened in the OR, then everyone should have had mask over the nose and mouth. -
Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?

Hi, Protocols and policies are written for all areas of the hospital, which includes, Infection Control departments who follow mostly the CDC recommendations. Then procedures are written for more specific areas, for example, the Association of perioperative (meaning during surgery) Registered Nurses will have very specific procedures and protocols that are followed. This goes on and on, however, all the policies and procedures that are written are done so to protect the patient. The CDC guidelines are closely followed because it is based on scientific statistics as it relates to infection rates and all the data that surrounds them. Good luck in your search for information............. -

Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?

Travelmego, Hibiclens is an antiseptic/antimicrobial skin cleanser, that is used pre operatively to decrease the risk of infection that may be caused by pathogens that live on our skin. This is done to prepare the skin and make it as germ free as possible. Yes, it is true your skin picks up "germs" on things it touches, however, this will minimize them. When using Hibiclens, don't use soap, there is no need for both, and don't scrub too hard this could cause tiny openings in your skin.... Just lather, and rinse well. Also, avoid your vaginal area, eyes, nose...... While the nurses are prepping you for surgery they will use a betadine solution and apply it in a such a way that it doesn't contaminate the area. However, the betadine needs to dry before the cut and this doesn't always happen, I believe using Hibiclens pre op gives added protection. Nares, are your nostrils.................. I know he seems pricey, and he is if compared to Tijuana surgeons. I felt the same way I wanted to stay in your range. I decided to go this pricey route simply because I like the idea you are in the hospital (a real one) for 3 nights, and not pushed out into a hotel room. If anything goes wrong this is the prime time for a complication, and I want to be where the surgeon is............... Also, they finance, and I do not have good credit, they finance with a legitimate finance company in Texas. All you need is the down payment. -
Have fun with it, and keep us posted.......

Band off for 2 years, sleeve next month. Advice?
Movinon replied to Redd003's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I regret ever trying the band. I too felt like I was choking and couldn't even swallow my saliva. The surgeon chose to cut be open to get access to the port, since he could never access it, to make a long story short I ended up with MRSA in my port, and it was horrible. On another thought, there was another post here where a recent sleever had to be hospitalized 4 weeks out due to dehydration. They are telling her she is having delayed gastric emptying and possible nerve damage that could be permanent. This is making me very nervous since my insurance will not pay for any complications related to the sleeve. This could be an area to discuss with our surgeons for the pre opers.... -

Travelmego, Here is the link, called Gastric Sleeve Surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy)- Dr. Jose Rodriquez with BeLiteWeight.com The total cost with all the finance charges will be 8500.00, cash price is 7200.00. I am considered a revision since I had the lap band in 2005, so I am a bit more. Thanks for the articles. The rate of infection is high even in the U.S., I have worked in several outpatient surgery centers and hospitals across the U.S. that didn't have the sterile technique of this video. Just because we are in the U.S. doesn't mean we are safe. There are a couple of things you can do before surgery that will help prevent infection, I plan to do them as well. 1. Scrub entire body with Hibiclens the night before your surgery. This can be purchased at Wal Mart. Pay special attention to the abdomen washing down. 2. Take a q-tip and apply Neosporin to the inside of your nares. Not much just coat the nares before surgery. There are several You Tube videos of this hospital if you search................ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2FVNzDCONE -

Band off for 2 years, sleeve next month. Advice?
Movinon replied to Redd003's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Redd003, We all have those demons in our closet, or we wouldn't be using food to calm them , right ? I am so sorry for your journey. Bulimia is a horrible disease to have, and a tough one to break. I am not a professional in this particular area, but I advise you if you haven't already, get with a therapist that you trust and figure out what's going on before anymore WLS. Be kind to yourself. And don't be hard on yourself, you don't need to be perfect, just healthy. These are what I have learned to say to myself, and it is helping along with meditation. I too, had the band in 2004 then removed in 2005, it slipped, and I also contracted a MRSA infection at the port site so I had enough of the band.................. Wish you all the best............... -
Patric1, Which Vitamins are you taking ? Also, for those of you that are post op which ones are recommended ?

Dilemma- Surgeon mask covering nose?
Movinon replied to Travelmego's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Travelmego, I am a RN with a strong infection control background. I saw the exact same video and I saw some still shots with the nose uncovered. It was a group in Tijuana, I believe. Anyway, I ask the question to the group, and they seemed unresponsive to my question. Felt like it was no big deal !!! I can tell you IT IS A BIG DEAL !! I would be horrified if I discovered a member of my surgical team had their nose uncovered during my surgery... I chose to stay clear of this particular group. The risk of infection is very high when the mouth or nose is uncovered .................. I am going to STAR MEDICA HOSPITAL – Juarez Mexico with Dr. Rodriquez through BeLiteWeight.com, and they are financing for me........... Check out their video, Dr. Rodriquez has one of the entire surgery on YouTube, and I watched every second of it, twice. Their surgical procedure was spot on, as far as infection control. Also, this hospital is used by our U.S. embassy. -

Movinon replied to ho11ieberry06's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Guys, Finally got a surgery date June 27 in Juarez, Mexico and my S.O. is traveling with me... For those of you that may be searching for financing I went through BeLiteWeight.com and achieved financing with a 4000.00 down payment. I will say they are very lenient as I thought I would never get financed. The only thing, be careful, make them repeat prices, and put it in writing, I ended up having to argued and fight for what I was quoted by the facilitator, but I got it done. Hope the surgery goes better.... The surgeon is Dr. Juan Rodriquez and he works out of Star Medica Hospital if you google it you can see lots of Youtube and pictures to research. I will keep you all informed. Since I am a RN with a strong Infection Control Background I am going to purchase some Hibiclens and scrub my body the night before surgery. This is a good idea for any of you that have any history of post wound infections, and it is a preventative measure........................
