When did your tell your employer you were.going out for surgery? I debate whether to tell them now or wait till I get my surgery date as I still have to wait a few more months. In a way I will be glad so then I can figure out short term disability and fmla, but my familt, keeps telling me to wait like I'd get fired or something if they knew to far ahead. Isn't that illegal?

Has anyone ever had their waiting period waved? My insurance has the 6 month medically supervised diet as one of their many criterias. I made my plea and wrote to the begging for them to waive it or cut it in half due to concern for my health problems. They stated that I could have my doctor call and if he believed it wasn't necessary and my case would be evaluated. Has this worked for anyone?

How long did you have to be out of work? Did you get fmla or disability? When did you tell your employer?

Keep question regarding the psych eval. We're you required to go to an actualy, psychologist?

Did you guys have the surgery because it was medically advised? I told my brother about me having it done and he was such a jerk about it until I told him all the medical problems and that it is medically necessary...then he was 100% supprtive...even said he would bring me. He said I should have started the conversation with saying the medical part first. I am pretty annoyed..y does it matter why I'm having it done!?! If it's going to better my life and allow me to be around for my child who cares y.I've decided I think I'm going to tell work im, having gall bladder surgery. It's tough to not say anything as I have a lot of appts. Y does telling or not telling have to be so damm difficult! -
Ugh it's ridiclous. I feel like he looks right through me like we have this connection. I wonder if he feels it too

Ginger that's exactly what it's like. I feel like an idiot for posting this but thought other people might feel the same. Lol

Oh no.. I'm married as well and besides I would never feel confident looking like this to make a move on anyone. Lol he is super good looking and I get butterflies seeing him...guess it's good to look forward going to the doctor. Lol, I'm sure I will feel differently after surgery about him lol

I go back and forth with telling. I can't stand people that say why don't u just workout-drives me nuts. Preparing for surgery and making this decision is tough enough, u don't need peoplextra making you feel bad about your decision. I go back and forth with telling. If you go in and tell your hr person and boss that u will be out for surgery, is it legal for them to ask you what it's for? -

How did you get around not telling your job? I don't want to tell anyone anyone at work. Everyone always has an opinion. -
That's so weird I have bcbs too but of course It's thru NY so of course it has to be more difficult. I feel like the rest of you - I'm a ticking time bomb- you would think that insurance would realize it will just cost them more money in the long run and for what- some smug medical directors that have probably never had a weight problem in their life. I guess I'm just mad that the insurance has this control... Even when it's medically advised- it's crazy! To me six months is too long and I'm frustrated about it! Hoping my doc will be an advocate for me and at least try but it doesn't seem like docs really put in the extra effort anymore.

It's hard because I started this process a year and a half ago and switched jobs and the new insurance didn't cover it. Now I'm ready to go again and have to still wait. I am feeling better about it now giving thought to my two year old hopefully sleeping through the night by then and also having the vacation/sick time to take. I just dread summer because I get so hot and uncomfortable. I went to look for clothes the other day and left in tears- it's so hard to find clothes. I can't imagine how awesome it will be to walk in a store and have all of them to look at- not just some little corner in the back with a few things. I have to dress professional at my job so that makes it even harder to find stuff. Mos importantly I just want to feel better. My back is killing me, my knees hurt and I'm so damn tired- just want this to be over. Thanks for the replies- they really helped.
