2 Days on the Other Side
CTJohn replied to Skippin'69's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was lucky in that I hardly had any pain. I can relate to a day of uncomfortable constipation - after only one half dose of pain killer. Give that up if you can Celebrated two year with band a few weeks ago. Down 143lbs. No longer diabetic and no longer high blood pressure. Life is good! Hang in there! -
I'm a bander, but can relate. Agree, see your doc and nut. And do other things. I just painted my basement.
-
Yes. But you'll be fine. You're burning stored calories Honestly, I was (am) rarely hungry.

Sugar free jello and especially Popsicles were my friend! Hang in there, it gets easier!

Regurgitation when laying down
CTJohn replied to MTW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. Terrible feeling! I don't eat late, but do drink (ice tea or water). Was told to stop drinking an hour before sleep, if that doesn't work try 2 hours, etc. For me, three hours seems 100% -
Great article on LAP-BAND surgery by surgeon who had LAP-BAND.

Not Feeling Full
CTJohn replied to YoungFreeAndBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About four months out, I said to my surgeon 'this stinks.. Just feels like a diet'. He said just wait. He was right Patience. I know, it sucks. But it'll kick in soon! Promise! -
You had the same sort of thoughts you are having It's weird. They go away. You think you're going to miss eating, or certain foods... Definitely not the case with me. Funny. Today I was thinking about the last time I had a bagel. Two years? But what did I get from it Meanwhile, yesterday I went to my endocrinologist. For the last time! No more diabetes. No more high blood pressure. It's totally worth it and life changing!

Some doctors prefer the small fill routine. Mine was a bit more aggressive initially, but then the .5, .2 fills. I trust him and it's working for me. And yes. Be patient.

Blue cross blue shield 6 month wait
CTJohn replied to Tryn2live1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was quick after the six months. Like a week or so for approval -
I was 385 on surgery date. 15 months later, 248. I choice lap band, and I am thrilled! No more diabetes, high blood pressure, seat belt extenders, etc Good luck!
-
"I just ate what wanted when I wanted " Sleevers won't succeed with that life style either. I have done everything to a T (mostly) that my doctor has suggested. I've lost 140 lbs in 18 months. No longer diabetic. No high blood pressure. No seat belt extenders. Now buy clothes anywhere I was ready. And it worked for me. Do your research. I for one wouldn't rule out the Lapband.

I had surgery Wednesday and I've barely eaten
CTJohn replied to Liability's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lap band probably isn't the cause of lack of appetite yet since it isn't tight. Rather, it's the surgery and healing process I followed doctors advice - liquids, then mushy. Don't force anything. Take it slow. Your doctor is always a phone call away -
My experience is (and Dr's advice) if I can drink fluids, I'm not too tight. Maybe that will change as I am banded longer I'd say if you can eat pizza (I couldn't, nor want to) you're not too tight I agree with others. chicken can be difficult at times... I can really only eat it in the evening, when I'm looser. My Doc has been banded 20 years and chicken is difficult for him. No big deal, plenty of other choices

CTJohn replied to jiggyiggy120's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story

When the band works TOO well...
CTJohn replied to TheProfessor's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I don't feel anything with the fills. Less than a flu shot. No topical numbing stuff. No big deal, for me anyway -
I've flown quite a bit, both domestic and longer overseas trips, since being banded 04/14. Never felt anything. Except, not needing sea belt extender!!

Bands yet hell does end. Hang in there - 45 is great! It kicked in for me at maybe four months. At that point, I told Doctor that it seemed I was just dieting like before. He said just wait, it hasn't kicked in yet. He was right and it did. I got some larger fills initially (like 1-2cc's) but then very small ones. They like more frequent smaller fills, and it has worked for me. Hang in there. All of a sudden you'll say 'wow, there it is'!

No regrets at all! At time of surgery (15 months ago) 56 waist, 4xl shirt, diabetic with high blood pressure Now, 40 waist, xl shirt, no longer diabetic, normal blood pressure and heart rate. So you tell me?
-
From rest day of the rest is f your life! Congrats! I meant, first day of the rest of your life!

Agree with above. I never gained, but didn't really start losing until month four. Then everything changed. No hunger at all. The fact that you're down 25 is awesome!!!
