Nellie, I am almost 4 weeks out and am lucky to get in 30 oz. It takes some time.

My gallbladder had already been removed but it is super common with sudden weight loss to get gallstones even without WLS. As for the Biotin I am only 3 weeks out but I am taking it and crossing my fingers but really I think that only helps with re-growth of hair. I don't think it will keep you from losing hair.

Trying to help my mother
SherB replied to tryingtohelpmymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't get fluids in either, next to none. She may need to be put on iv's until she can tolerate them. I was on iv's for 5 days. I am just over 3 weeks out and am not even close to what I need in water. I am lucky to get in 16-24oz but it is getting better. Dehydration is nothing to mess around with. See a doctor asap and best of luck to her. -
Hospital/Surgery experience. Please tell.
SherB replied to Bobby46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had some issues. I was supposed to be one night in the hospital and ended up 5 days. This was due to excess swelling and I was unable to drink any fluids without pain. I had to stay on iv's for many days. I have also had a lot of pain on the side where my stomach was removed. I am just over 3 weeks out and starting to feel normal again. So you see it really varies. Wishing you a speedier recovery than I had. Best of luck! -
It is normal to have a stall at anytime in the first month. Some lose nothing at all the first week and drop 15 the second week. I gained 7 pounds of fluid the first week. The second week I lost that 7 plus 15 more, three days later I dropped 7 more pounds then nothing for almost 2 weeks. Just follow your plan and your stall will pass.

I was supposed to take off 2 weeks, had a rough recovery and am now set to go back after 4 weeks which will be this coming Thursday. Everyone is different. I would take at least 2 weeks and if you don't need the second week then go back early. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

4 months post op and pregnant
SherB replied to cpstsarah's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Babies get their nutrients first, even before you get yours. Just do the best you can. There is no way for you to get in 2000 calories but your baby is not going to starve. Eat as healthy and clean as possible. Protein, veggies, fruit and make sure you get enough Calcium, milk, cheese yogurt. I would not rely so much on Protein shakes unless you just cannot get enough protein in. Take your prenatal vitamins and enjoy your pregnancy. Congratulations on your upcoming arrival, babies are a blessing. -
I'm eating when I'm not supposed to!
SherB replied to LaydeeK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We were able to eat 7 days out. Very minimal restrictions and no purees so all doctors are different. If you really feel you have to eat try some refried beans with a little melted cheese. Your restriction will kick in after you are off of the shakes. I am not telling you to ignore your doctor but if you are going to eat anyway try something soft not a Dorito and make it protein. -
Insurance companies can no longer deny you service for future needed services or pre-existing conditions. Now a doctor may refuse to assist you if you have had service outside of the US but follow up or emergency cannot be denied.

Never wait, call them.

Yes, my surgeon did that as well.

Sleeved in 8/2012, delivered baby 5/2/14... Help!
SherB replied to peytonsmommy's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congratulations on your new baby girl! Her well being is number one right now. Maybe look up how many calories you should be consuming to keep your weight at 158. I would use that as a base point to keep your baby healthy. They say you need a few more calories, I think 300 for the baby so if you stay at what it says for 158 you should not gain and may even lose a little bit. Take your daughter for walks and just enjoy her. -
I do not have an answer for you but am so sorry for your situation. That is really awful. I hope there is something they can do to help your mother. Best of luck to you both.

Hello, I see people posting they had no pain meds after they left the hospital etc.. I am just over two weeks out and still have pain on my right side that seems to go around to my back. I do know this is by the incision where my stomach was removed. Has anyone else still had pain at this point? So tired of hearing everyone leaving the hospital pain free.

Concerns about how much I'm supposed to eat
SherB replied to LucySanz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Lucy, You will feel more restriction once you get into soft foods. Water and shakes really do just go through you, there is not a lot to make you full. Myself, I have problems with liquids but most people do not. Hang in there and you will feel much better when you can eat food. My doctor let us eat food after one week but please follow whatever your doctor says to do. -
Geez Par, if it didn't hurt I wouldn't be asking. Thanks.

I get the chicken bowl at Chipoltes I just do not get any rice. Chicken, Beans, cheese and salsa and sour cream on the side. It makes quite a few meals.

OMG I just ate 6 chewy chips ahoy cookies
SherB replied to jodileigh3474's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Get rid of the package if there are any left. Those go down way to easily for you it sounds like. Just move forward and try not to do it again. If you need something sweet try some fruit or maybe yogurt. Heck even a piece of hard candy would be better. Only one though. =) -
You can sleep on your stomach when it feels ok to do so. I am 14 days out and I can somewhat sleep on my stomach. I take a body pillow and kinda lay on my stomach over the pillow but still at just a slight angle. Getting closer.

I was originally taking two weeks off but I was just extended for another week. Some will be able to go back right away and then others like me will not. I still have pain and was unable to take any liquids in for 5 days. I am better but still have some pain issues and very low energy. No way could I go back tomorrow as scheduled. Best of luck to you.

Hey Chav1, Listen girly, you could be my surgery clone. I had my sleeve done 7/16 and also had the swelling. It hurt each time I took a sip of Water. I had go back on iv's and stayed 5 full days in the hospital hooked up to them. When I left it literally took me an entire day to drink a bottle of water 16oz. I am two weeks out today and can only get down 2 bottles of water. I know others who were drinking their 64oz and going back to work a week later. I still hurt and my doctor gave me an additional week off. Trust me it gets better. Really I would say it has only been about 4 days that I have felt somewhat human. I cannot even keep a multi Vitamin down but am able to eat soft foods. I have even lost 19 pounds. Still hoping to soon feel completely back to normal. Best of luck and hang in there. I didn't expect it to be this hard either.

What To Get For The Weeks After Surgery?
SherB replied to HalloweenBaby24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not buy a lot of stuff. Maybe one case of premier protein shakes, can of f/f refried beans. I agree with Linda, I eat refried beans and salsa and I am 10 days out. One can lasted 8 meals I think. -
1 YR Surgiversary! Dreams become Reality!

Congratulations and may your dad enjoy many more years! -
I would cut him a little slack. I am not a whiner or complainer and I am a single mom of one 7 year old. I read all kinds of stuff on the surgery, followed my program, did what I was told. Figured the main thing was to survive the surgery, planned one night in the hospital and BAM be back home for two weeks then back to work. Well guess what? I spent 4 nights and 5 days in the hospital. I couldn't take in any water, had nausea and swelling so nothing much could get in. I was "pissed" at who? At myself because I thought this was going to be sorta easy as long as I followed protocol. I did nothing wrong and felt so crummy I could hardly lift my head off the pillow. I am 8 days out now and it is somewhat easier, can only take in about 24 oz of water and it is a super struggle. I did not plan for this, did not expect it and I am sure he didn't either. Plus I have online friends who breezed right through the surgery with no issues at all. My doctor said I did everything right but sometimes our bodies do what they want to. Please don't be mad at him, just give him some support and a little time to heal.
