I will def. need it even though I have no desire to EVER have another surgery. Already had bat wings and they are getting worse. The price we pay to get healthy.

You know you've had WLS when ___________________ ! ! ! ^_^

Your looking like a fool with your pants on the ground. =) -
Two weeks out you will still have swelling, don't weigh until one month out. You will lose, it is next to impossible not to lose but your body is still healing. I gained 8 pounds of fluid after surgery and did not drop those 8 pounds until day 9. Just hang in there.

5 Days Post Op - How long did you take pain meds or have pain?
SherB replied to LucianaVictoria's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@BitterSweet*, I was not offended at all. It takes a lot to offend me. My issue was with myself. I had my gallbladder out and had zero issues and very little pain. Had a C-section and it was a bit painful but not too bad either. So when I saw all of these people having the sleeve and going back to work in a week, I was like cool, that will be me. Even though I knew it was a major surgery I was shocked at the amount of pain and the recovery time it took for me to feel better. I kept questioning myself as to what the heck was wrong with me and was feeling mad at myself for my slow recovery. I really just started to feel better last week. I finally had a discussion with myself, accepted for whatever reason this was taking me longer than others and trying to keep a positive attitude. I have spent years beating myself up for being overweight, I figured I needed to stop beating myself up over this surgery. -
5 Days Post Op - How long did you take pain meds or have pain?
SherB replied to LucianaVictoria's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain, a lot of pain for several weeks. I did only take Tylenol after my bottle was gone because I didn't want to ask for more meds since I thought they may think I would get addicted. I am 5 weeks out and have just a tiny bit of pulling on the right side so YES you can still be in pain 5 days out. My doctor said everyone is different. I am not a baby or a whiner it just somehow happened that I had more pain. If your pain is excessive you may have to get checked out. I was checked out and was fine but trust me I was hurting. Take care!! -
I have to wait several months to eat pork or beef. Has something to do with the texture and stringiness.
-
Yep, they just don't get it and they may never. That is why you have us here to support you, we get it. I can no longer eat eggs but thank goodness I can eat chicken. Congratulations on your weight loss!!

Sounds pretty normal. I have days where I have no hunger and other days where I could eat more. Maybe increase your water on those days. You are not saying the average amount of calories you are getting but you may need to increase them if you are doing a lot of physical exercise, your body cannot go like that without fuel. Drink an extra protein shake, that will fill you up and give you the protein boost. Also congratulations on your weight loss.

300 calories if I'm lucky
SherB replied to jdillon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those out a bit longer try to up those calories a bit at a time. It will help you get over your stall but it is super hard some days. -

SherB replied to jdillon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Too soon to worry about protein. Get your fluids in even if it is only water. You do not want to get dehydrated and constipated. I have been there and done that. My NUT told us if we could get either water or protein to get the water first. Give yourself some healing time. Typically at 3 days out it is super hard to get more than 300 calories in. Hang in there. -
Feelling bad about not exercising...
SherB replied to Goddardgo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I see you are from AZ as well and you went to the same doctor's group. It is hotter than hell here now and that makes a big difference on how motivating it is to walk. What town do you live in do you mind me asking? -
Feelling bad about not exercising...

At 3 weeks out I barely walked from room to room. You just had major surgery, I had a lot of pain so there was no way I was going to be walking a lot. I am just over 4 weeks now and still have some pain on the right side and I now do some walking but not a lot. I do not feel guilty. I was told I could only walk for 6 weeks only so I am doing it one day at a time. Hang in there and don't judge yourself by others. I keep reading people saying stuff like, "Hey, one week out and training for a 5k." Really? Good for them and I wish them well. =) Take care! -
You may need to increase your calories and/or your water at this point. If you are under 600 calories you should try to add 200 or so more. It can help break your stall.

100% REGRET THIS SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
SherB replied to IM.ON.MY.WEIGH.DOWN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I had some difficulty where there was so much swelling I couldn't get anything into my sleeve either. I was in the hospital for 5 days on iv's. When released I couldn't get more than 8 oz of water in in 24 hours and I have also had excessive pain. I am just over 4 weeks out and still have a lot of pain on my right side. I have also had buyers remorse but I did not have to convert to bypass. Hopefully that is a good alternative for you and you will lose faster than with the sleeve. I know this is not much help. I hope everything is resolved for you soon. Please take care, it has to get better. -
At least your recognize this and that is the first step to dealing with it. You don't want to alienate the people in your life that love you.

Mine was 9 days. I hope yours is speedy as well. Good luck.

Why can't I lose? :'0(
SherB replied to Whathereagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Oh, 500 is not enough trust me. Some days sure that is fine but I would really try to bump them up some with some healthy protein or a shake. Your body is probably hanging on the every calorie and going into starvation mode. Cheese sticks are a quick on the go snack too. Please try to add some calories for a few days and see what happens. You may be wearing yourself out due to lack of food. Best of luck. -

I wonder if you are getting enough calories. Nursing is hard work, on your feet a lot plus walking. Just a suggestion if you are not getting a lot of calories in is to try to increase them by 200 or so. I was in a long stall and increased my calories and started to lose again. I was only getting around 500-600 calories a day and it wasn't enough. -

Do you know about how many calories you are getting in right now? -
I use Miralax too but before I had bought anything mine got really really bad. I had to buy an enema. I know it is gross but I was in agony. I felt much better afterwards. Better to get a jump on it, I belong to a group of sleevers from July and the majority of us ALL have constipation issues. Best of luck.

anyone REGRET the sleeve?
SherB replied to elpasovet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will admit there have been many times I have regretted the surgery but I am just now 4 weeks out. I had an unusual amount of swelling, could not drink anything and had to stay in the hospital for 5 days. Still cannot get in the required amount of water. I have lost 23 pounds so far. I had a lot of pain and still have quite a bit on my right side. I was supposed to be out of work for 2 weeks but today is the end of week 4. I am slowly getting better so yes, I have felt like crap and wondered WTH did I do. It is over and done so now I am going to make the best of it. I can eat, just not too much. I have lost all cravings for sweets, which is a bonus. Can no longer eat eggs. I did this to get healthy and had a few curves thrown my way but it does get better. -
So how do you really know ?opinions please
SherB replied to stacey3272's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Here is what is so funny. Everyone is saying how cheap surgery is in Mexico but my insurance only allowed my doctor to be paid around $1500 after adjustments. It is the hospital that screws you. The surgeons in Mexico may be making more than the US doctors unless you are US self pay. -
Yep! It really takes awhile. It took me almost 3 1/2 weeks to really start to feel better. Others are luckier.
-
I still have some snacks in the house for my daughter(7) but for me the sleeve surgery took away all cravings for anything sweet. I am so happy about that, it may change over time but for now I am going with it. Now it did not take away my cravings for bagels unfortunately so I don't buy them. =)

A pound or two up on any given day is not unusual. If you are not required to get 1000 of the Protein then only do one shake. You would have to eat 3600 extra calories to really gain one pound. It can be Water, that time of the month even a stall at this point. Sounds like you are doing good. No need to panic.
