I had my port flip all the way around. The doctor tried to flip it back into place inside the office. It was impossible to do so I was scheduled for surgery. I was put under general aneesthesia and the large cut where the port was inserted, was re-cut and the port replaced. It is just about the same surgery that you already had but your only cut once. I bounced back quickly with the first surgery but the second really kicked me in the butt!!! It has now been six weeks since I had the second surgery and I am now much better.

Tell me about that 1st full day you were home

It could be that you are drinking too fast. That can cause pain in the chest cavity area too. -
Post-Op Exercise/Mobility Regimen
caligal replied to Mac the Knife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drove around town 3 days after. ie... taking and picking kids up from school. Would not take pain medicine until I went to sleep at night. I walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and then, I walked some more. :-) -
BAD start to the liquid diet, and I don't feel I can tell my doc
caligal replied to crackedpepper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are OK, right now but YOY MUST STAY ON THAT LIQUID DIET. The reason being is that the doctor is trying to get the fat away from your liver. Do you know that your liver is right behind the stomach? It could be very easy to cut into it. That is why it is SOOOOOOO important for that liquid diet. If you stay on track now, you should be O.K. -
Also... How could I FORGET!!!! All the Sugar-free POPSICLES that you can stand :-)

Take it easy and let your mom take care of the kids for at least 3-5 days. You need the time to recuperate. Also you might need a chair and lots of pillows to sleep on because being flat in a bed is going to cause pain. I walked everyday at leat 1/2 mile each day, starting the day I arrived home. Exercise is good, it relieves the gas from the anesthesia. Follow the liquid diet from your doctor afterwards. -

Ladies - What Size Clothes to Cross Your Legs?
caligal replied to JulieNYC's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm with you on this one. I can cross my legs but it gets tiring after a while. -
Yes, I am scared to death of getting thin. This is another world that I am not familiar with. One thing that I do know, is I start to get attention and it makes me feel uncomfortable. I am not used to getting compliments and when I get 5-10 a day, I get a bit upset and wish that people would just leave me alone. I guess also it would be, hey people I amjust the same person that I have always been just a different shell. I kind of makes me feel like I really wasn't liked because of my appearacne to begin with. That's my main issue too much positive attention that I really DO NOT want. BLAH!

Quick question: Have you noticed any type of weight gain since you take the pill? Is your pill pretty much band friendly. Only ask this because I need some type of b/c.
-
Yes. VERY loud gurggling at random :-)

Yes, after my 2nd fill, (which I do have restriction) I burp just like a beer slurping man.!!! How embarassing it is. I am happy to see that I am NOT the only one who experiences this. P.S. No slime or PB'ing with me either. Just massive burping.

I would seriously consider seeing your surgeon. You never know what it could be. Maybe you could call and let the surgeon know what your symptoms are. When I went in for my first fill everything was fine. The next day I had been experiencing the same problems as you had and it turned out that the port had totally flipped. Please consult your surgeon, even if it is something minor.

On my port replacement, I woke up gagging on the tube also and then a whole bunch of phlegm came up. Then I fell back asleep and wheeled to recovery. As for the hospital it was soooo cold, I couldn't wait to be covered with the warm blankets!!! There

Port Site Infection & Surery to Remove Port!!
caligal replied to Summer87's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry to hear about the misfortune with the port. I understand your pain and anxiety. I was banded on 9/07/07 and and on 11/28 for my 2nd fill I was told the port had totally flipped. I had to do surgery all over again and I am finally able to experience the banding. for 3 months I had no idea what it felt like to be banded. I pray for you that you are able to maintain your weight while you wait for your new port. -
I am at 206 and hope to be in Onederland by the middle of January. Woooohooooo! Onederland, here I come!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your misfortunes. I can understand how traumatic you must feel. I was re-ported 2 weeks ago. I am feeling fine right now but this surgery was much harder on my body then the initial surgery. I would definitely get 2nd and 3rd opinions from sdifferent lapband surgeons and also research, research, research. Could it be that you are allergic to the band material?

MzLizzyB do not cancel your surgery because of one incident. It does happen but is uncommon. Everybody is different.

I had this when I first and secondly had my surgeries. The reason why it hurts around the port is because it is stitched in the abdominal wall and into a muscle. This pain will be there for a while. Whatever you do, DO NOT play with it. You can make it flip and then you will have to have port repair surgery. Take the pain medicine the doctor gave you and it will go away soon. It has been very little time since you have had surgery, your body needs time to heal.

I have no idea how much it costs to re-flip it back. Sometimes the doctor can manuever it back into place in the office without surgery. In my case, it was detached and floating around. My insurance paid for it since it was another surgery with anesthesia and the whole nine yards.

Caligal...........242..........206.....199.............7 more to go...... -
This surgery has been great and I really have not had any problems until this port flip ordeal. I didn't have restriction and really do not know what it feels like to PB, slime or any other of these lapband terms. Right now at this moment, I feel that if this port flips again, I will probably have this device taken out of my body. I can understand a mishap once, but not twice.

I had my revision yesterday! They removed the old port and replaced it with a new one. I am in more pain now than I was with the first initial surgery. I hope this thing doesn't flip again. If it does, I'm done with this lapband experience.

Has anyone ever had their port flip more than one time? I just went to the Doctor's to get my second fill and it turned out that the port flipped!!! I have to go in this Friday and get it repaired. I guess I'm O.K. with it because everyone's post about their experience sounds encouraging, I just wouldn't wnat to keep repeating it!
