1 month out, having some issues
Kelly Gonzalez replied to Shorty5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Greek yogurts go down so good, I was sleeved on 3/31, and my doctor told me I could start regular food a week ago, but it's not been working that well for me either, so I do a shake in the morning (hate Protein shakes) and then I do yogurt throughout the day. If that's all I can do, I've done good.I have tried pieces of chicken, and sometimes it's ok, other times it's not. In between I drink lots of ice Water. I couldn't take my lupus medication broken, it too was awful, so I just took it normal, all the Vitamins I take are chewable. Hope you get some answers. Good luck! -
Good luck to you!

Gas X will help, and it does go away, think it went away for me after about 2 weeks.

What was the point?
Kelly Gonzalez replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read you said that you eat cream of wheat, and creamed soup, but are you getting enough protein in? I'm 4 weeks out, and I stalled for a couple of days, when I kicked up my protein intake ( Greek yogurt, and 1 protein shake, some meat, not much) the weight started coming off again. I try to do 3-4 yogurts a day so I get about 90-100 gms of protein in a day, that's what my surgeon had old me we need in early stages. Everyones doc is different though. good luck! -

I'm freakin out! Please help! ASAP!
Kelly Gonzalez replied to happymomandwife71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@ Diva, I have to wait maybe 8 months for the repair, he wants to make sure there's enough room. It just looks like I have a huge alien protruding from my stomach, but I'm kind of glad he decided on the wait. He told me the day of the sleeve surgery that I had the worst hernia that he had ever seen. I've seen on other sites that when they do a hernia repair, and they do sleeve laprascopic, they hook it, and sometimes it can really hurt for a while. He told me that when he cuts off the loose skin, he will just do everything at once, so I trust his opinion. I have a great surgeon, and trust him emensly. Good luck everyone. -
I couldn't wait to eat a scrammbled egg, and the same thing happened to me. It seemed to sit right between my breat bone, and yea diarreah forever, but I think it's because you really haven't had anything solid in a while. I'm 4 weeks out, and things have gotten better. i'm on regular food now. Somethings go down really easy one day, and not so easy for the same exact thing the next day, I just keep plenty of yogurt on hand just in case, cause that seems to go down the best. Good luck!

I went into A-Fib in Sept, and was hospitalized for a week, doctors had to reboot my heart, and then I had a monitor (not pacemaker) put in, soon after my BP was dropping a lot, and someone told me to drink alot of H2O, which brings it back up. My cardiologist cleared me 2 weeks after getting out of the hospital, so don't worry, like happymom said, just calm down. I couldn't do the treadmill because of Ra, Osteo, and bursitis, so they put me on a machine, and gave me a needle that actually makes your heart rate go up. But just relax, you will be fine. -
Hiatal Hernia Repair
Kelly Gonzalez replied to SpecialNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a really bad hernia, mine broke through my stomach lining, and split my somach muscle in half, my bowels, and intestines just keep growing, this is the reason for my sleeve, but my surgeon told me he wants to wait a year to do mine, so there's plenty of room to put everything back to normal. Good luck! -
It shouldn't bother anyone,it's you that you have to, need to worry about. You don't have to read what they post, but maybe they are having a difficult time. I mean, our stomachs change, but our minds are still the same.I don't want to judge anyones journey, this isn't easy, and I don't know what their predicaments are. It's their journey, and their life. Who are we to judge? I wish you luck!

Smell and Taste? Did yours change?
Kelly Gonzalez replied to Georgia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4 weeks post, and yes. Everything is too sweet, and I noticed it almost immediatly that medication that I have been on for years, now as soon as I put them in my mouth, I taste them, this was not the case before, but it's really great to know that people who experience the change tend to lose more weight, I'm all for that, haha.. -

Problems with Omeprazole (Prilosec) and Metformin
Kelly Gonzalez replied to Rena's got this's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't really trust the advice from primary doctors, they have their hands in too many pots. My gasterologist has me on omeprazole, and surgeon put me on more of it it after sleeve, I'm doing good with it. As far as metformin, my primary had me on metformin for 2 yrs, and my sugar was high, finally I insisted on a referral to an endocardologist. He told me I needed to be on insulin, that metformin was not right for me. so research it, or second opinion. but thanks for letting us know, cause I will stil ask my docs. By the way, my sugar has been really good, a couple of highs (think it's stress) but not many. Good luck all! -
Difficulty tolerating protein
Kelly Gonzalez replied to alice4914's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I see a lot of people struggle with the protein shakes post-op, even me, but it's importanrt to take them because it can cause loss of hair, and more importantly from what I read your body can actually start feeding off of your vital organs. I do whey, 1 scoop is 30gms of protein , so I try to get 2 scoops in the am, and just keep taking sips throughout the am. Then I buy high protein yogurt and do 2-3 in the course of a day. My surgeon told me in early stages you should get 100 gms of protein, but if I get close enough, I'm proud of myself. You should also ask your surgeon for a script for Iron, and B-12 shots, in which you can get from your MD, and this should help your energy levels. School's almost over, and then you will be able to concentrate more on you. Good luck, and blessings! -
What do your incisions look like?
Kelly Gonzalez replied to mommyjamie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doc told me to take a cotton swab with nail polish remover, and lightly rub over them, after put neosporine on them. It worked for me, and both can be bought at the dollar store. I'm almost a month out, and mine are still scabbed, but the scab is starting to come off, so I keep up with the neosporine. -
trying to do right!
Kelly Gonzalez replied to northtexasslim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me it's important to get 100 gms of protein in the beginning. I do a double scoop of whey protein (30gms a scoop), for breakfast, and then I eat high protein yogurts 14gms of protein maybe 2-3 a day, and try to eat a little meat (chicken, turkey) It's not easy doing the shake, but I do it with a little almond milk, and a little skim milk, and I make it around 7 a.m, and then put it into a container, and just every once in a while will take it out of fridge, and drink a couple of mouthfuls (it's the hardest part of my morning) but I don't want it to linger on through the day, so I just get it over with. the more you can get in to you (which isn't much) the easier the weight comes off, because your body isn't in starvation mode. Good luck, hope it all works out! -
Tired of sweet protein drinks!
Kelly Gonzalez replied to menjaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to just turn off my senses (taste, and smell) cause the unjury only has 20gms of Protein. I just do 2 scoops of whey, 30 gms of protein a scoop (it's awful, I agree) and get it over with, then the rest of the day I push greek yogurt high in protein. I never look forward to mornings anymore until the shake is over with. I'm on a regular diet, but still have trouble getting things down. Yesterday I was able to eat chicken for lunch around noon, but around 6:30 when I tried to eat chicken, it just wasn't having it. I don't get nausea, vomiting, sliming, but it hurts until I release gas one way, or another, haha. Good luck! -
NJ Bariatric. ..has anyone gone to them?
Kelly Gonzalez replied to msjoy83's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
On my first visit he gave me all the paperwork, and told me I had to see the "nut" I'm about 1 1/2 hrs from Livingston, so I asked if I could navigate out of St Barnabus, he told me that was fine ( just remember to get scripts, if you do this, he will give you a paper, but he will still need to give a script} If you navigate within the hospital, expect to spend the day there. I navigated for cat scan, pulmonary, sleep apnea, cardiac, some bloodwork. I always made the "nut' appointment for the same day as I was seeing the surgeon, and she was accomadating. Most people have to lose a reccomende weight loss prior to surgery (insurance) so they weigh in each time you go, and they look at the scale. It's basically each time you go, you will be given things to do, and when all is done then they will set your surgery date. Also if you navigate out, they usually fax the results, always ask for a copy of anything, St. Barnabus was very good at losing everything, because f high clientel. You will have to get a psych clearence. He actually red flagged me for only being off of cigarettes for 3 months, but doc still cleared me, so I'm not too sure why they send you to see a psych. My "nut" told me that the psych's usually red flag most people, so if that happens don't worry. If you smoke "stop" they do a urine test, usually 2 weeks prior to surgery, and it can tell them if you have smoked I think up to 6 weeks before.(which has to be done at the hospital that you will have the surgery} That's about it for pre-op. It's a lot of work prior I spent the night at the hospital, and was sent home the next day. Hope this helped. My doc was/is Dr.Prakash Paragi. St. Barnabus isn't far from you,What hospital in Springfield are you going to? I only know of St Barnabus in your area. I'm familiar with Springfield. I used to live in Plainfield, and have family in Cranford. Good luck, MsJoy! -
Restaurant and only one week out :(
Kelly Gonzalez replied to browneyedgirl1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It won't be that hard, as you will only want with. Good luck your eyes. If you go with your husband, kids. I would tell them to get you sup, it's not worth paying for a whole meal, and you will be lucky to get a couple of sips.If there are people there you don't want to know, just say you have a bit of a upset stomach. Good luck to you! -

Kelly Gonzalez replied to msjoy83's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I did, Had my surgery in Livingston. -
@ Mommy, yea, anything liquid such as the shake counts as part of your liquid intake. I'm almost 4 weeks, and it takes me most of the morning, gagging, and all to get that shake down. I feel so accomplished after it's done, cause it's the worse part of my morning, and I won't drag it out through the day. I seriosly hate them.

family giving me a hard time
Kelly Gonzalez replied to marymary1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually had the complete opposite because I'm very ill. My family were all for it, it was me that was skeptical, but it's all done, and 24 days post-op.
