Abdominal binders. Are they worth it?
Leena replied to 111's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After my initial surgery I was given a pain pillow. It was something to hold and press against where my incisions were when I got up to move. After other surgeries that I had I used a abdominal binder. The binder was great at compressing everything. -
Leena started following antacids?, Abdominal binders. Are they worth it?, THC in my system? and and 6 others

My stricture was at 1 1/2 weeks. I was admitted, observed for a day and then scoped. I was on ivs to hydrate and vomitting bile. I was NPO for 4 days. Surgeons can scope early and dialate the opening. Yes after dialation you start over on the phases. I had surgery July 8th and im still on soft foods. Some days I have to go back to liquids and purees. Get into your doctor and get the endoscopy. It can be done as a same day procedure if youre healthy. If you wait too long you'll be spending days there. I was in for 4 days.

My insurance company or hospital required blood tests and urine samples. I dont smoke or use anything so it wasnt an issue for me. They were however constantly testing me for pregnancy in spite of my iud coupled with a partner with no sperm and me telling them. In the month of July I had 10 pregnancy tests and no sex!

I sounds like a stricture. I had one and was unable to keep liquids down.

I had my own room. 5 day stay due to complications- previously had a band. So glad I didnt have a roommate as I wouldn't have wanted to be judged for a rough recovery with catherers, vomiting for 2 days and constant bladder scans. My 2nd and 3rd stays- from complications I also had my own room.

What dosage of zofran are you on? I ended up on zofran and reglan for nausea as well as protonix. I had surgery 7/8 and am still on them and still on liquids. And had 3 hospital stays. You may want to ask for an increasebin zofran. I take one nausea med every 3 hours as well as protonix twice a day. It's the only way I can manage liquids. Ive had one hospital admission due to dehydration. Are you still peeing? When you stop that's when you need to go in for treatment. Then it's a matter of ivs and labs to correct things. And iv nausea meds are wonderful. Hope you start feeling better and get to the hospital to get hydrated.

RNY caused me to lose my friends
Leena replied to jtickle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened tp me in 2007 after I had the band. I lost my mother to jealous fits once I went from a size 28 to 16. I had complications with my band and had to have it removed jn April and revised to bypass in July. Now I have a partner who is so unhappy with me. He resents me being sick due to complications from The band and now the bypass. He's had the bypass himself. The only other people that know about it are my grandmother, kids and their Dad. I've only told one of my friends I revised for fear if loosing the others. They all know my band came out and think I went back in to have damage repaired which I did ( 2 hernias, adhesions and scar tissue and liver biopsies). I've had 3 hospital stays since removal and don't want to deal with any more fall out from this. It already looks like I'll be moving out and no longer with my partner once Im recovered enough to do so. I absolutely hate being yelled at, cursed at and stuck at home because of complications. He thinks I'm ruining his life because he took a few hours off of work to drop me off at the hospital- and that I cant go out anywhere. And that he's "picking up the slack". Meanwhile I have a home nurse and my teenagers have been picking up things at the pharmacy and local convience store, their Dad even brought down groceries. And I've started ordering things like Protein shakes on amazon (still on liquids). I hate asking him to do anything as I get comments like he's not my servant. I was so sick post op that my kids were helping me shower, helping me up the stairs and in and out of the chair I've been sleeping on. They've been cleaning the house daily and have taken turns sleeping on the couch so they could help me out of the chair in the middle if the night so i could go to the bathroom.. Week 3 I was finally able to do those things on my own. At one point their father came down to take care of me because they told them how I was being treated. He took me to the hospital for my first snd second stay and a few appointments. It does really hurt to loose people as a result of them not being able to handle your surgery. But it is for the best- what's worse is being stuck there with them. -
Im awake too. Generally I sleep from 11pm-3am, then 5-6:30am. I need then a nap during the day. Im almost 4 weeks out. My kids have been here the whole time, but are 20, 13 and 14. They're really good about my weird schedule and the fact that I'm tired and only cook 1-2 meals a day and can't drive yet. My partner hasn't been great with things. Their father has actually been wonderful about taking me to appointments and helping out. I've really only had a few nights of good sleep and a few of those were during my 3 hospital stays. I've been off pain meds for 2 weeks. I thought taking one tonight would help me sleep. Obviously it didnt work, just made me nauseous.

Oh Pik. Sorry you're going through this. I had my bypass& hernia repairs 7/8. And 3 hospitalizations since. The best way to diagnose a stricture is endoscopy. I've had one with dilation to open it up. (2nd hospital stay of 4 days) I thought it closed again as I had a day where I only managed to get in 8 oz of Water then the next day no water. (3rd hospital stay for dehydration 2 days) I really had to beg for the endo. Ill be 4 weeks out Tuesday and am still on liquids and nausea meds. My abscess is healing and tomorrow is my last day of my visitting nurse. I still can't drive and have no energy. Hang in there pik and ask daily for the endo. After 3 days of vomiting bile documented in the hospital & one day at home my surgeon went in and fixed the stricture. It didn't instantly feel better but the next day fluids went in slowly. I know how stressful these complications can be. I think it's pretty much totaled my relationship with my partner. And once I feel well enough I'll be moving. I dont need the fallout from being sick.
-
I took one tums. I while I was waiting for their office to open. I'm allowed to have tums occasionally, but if I'm finding I need them more than once a day I have to call their office on Tuesday to go on protonix as well. Im a revision from a band, so protonix and I ho back 7 years, as do my surgeon and I. I've already had 3 hospital stays dince the bypass. So they do keep on top of things.

Can I take tums post op? Im 3 weeks. Im having major heartburn.

How Long Did You wait After Band Removal Before Revising?
Leena replied to blackonynx's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had to build Protein stores before surgery 80 grams a day. Im so glad I did otherwise I think I'd be more tired than I am now. I wasn't required to do liquids but I did for a week and that week got in more protein 100 grams a day. I also did a week of liquids after removal of my band in April. Followed by a hello to all the veggies I couldn't tolerate with the band. Mainly tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, garlic and more garlic, jalapeno peppers, broccoli. Im a vegetarian so missing my favorite veggies was a tough one. Im still on liquids- 3 weeks tomorrow due to complications and extra hospital stays. I made smelled a tomatoe today and cried. I miss my veggies so much.
