I have my surgery date for December
Dhdhshhshd replied to Marie8777's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm only 6 days post-op, and no regrets so far! I did have some issues with slow respiration after surgery and i was so sleepy! I was on oxygen and they gave me a shot to help the anesthesia wear off. It got much better after that. I slept a lot the first few days. But, I didn't have a ton of pain and started walking by that evening. I think the quicker you can start moving, the better. I had some issues with nausea/the spins and they gave me a patch behind my ear, which helped. We figured out the morphine was causing the nausea or making it worse, and by the day after surgery they switched me to the liquid medicine (lortab?) that I'd be using at home. Big difference! That day I showered by myself and was walking by myself that night. I had surgery on Mon and went home at 1pm on Wed. I haven't used hardly any pain medication since I've been home. I've been walking every day and no issues getting my liquids in. Thankful that everything has been good for me so far! Wishing you all the best with your surgery and recovery! -
Surgery date set- Instantly terrified!

I think everyone can 100% understand where you're coming from! It's a big change, and fear, doubt, and uncertainty is normal. I had RNY on 10/27, and I was strong on the outside but my mind was really going in the weeks before my surgery. Just before surgery, I was laying in my bed, IV started, and the tears came. My surgeon came in and asked me if they were from last minute jitters, and they were. He reassured me, and I was ready. But, even the first few days after surgery, I couldn't believe I'd actually done it. I'm only 6 days post-op, but no regrets so far! think it's a good sign that you're feeling these emotions, because it means you're really grasping the importance of this decision and you know your life is precious. I ultimately decided I'd rather have this surgery now while I'm younger and before my quality of life suffers from disease. Just keep the faith, have a positive attitude, and trust in your surgeon. And if you believe in a higher power, pray about it. Ask for strength, courage, wisdom, and healing. I think you'll receive it. Good luck! -
When I started my journey early this year, I wanted lap band because it was the least invasive...quickly decided against that. Then I wanted the sleeve, because there was no way I was having anything re-routed. My surgeon (who is excellent, BTW) spent a lot of time educating me on the pros and cons of the sleeve and RNY. Ultimately, I decided on RNY- the procedure that from the start I said I'd never have because it was too invasive. Here I am, 6 days post-op, and I'm happy with my decision. RNY is the tried and true, most successful, and most commonly performed bariatric surgery. But it's a personal choice. In my experience, we're never 100% sure about anything. Go with your doctor's guidance and what your heart tells you. Good luck!

@@Naynay31 - same here! Worried something didn't take with my surgery.. I'm sure it's fine, but not eat I've been expecting. I'm 5 days out.

@@Sherrib4health - same here! I'm 5 days out today, and things have been great. I'm not having any issues with getting everything in. I'm still careful when I drink or eat "full liquids", but I'm not getting that incredibly full/stuffed feeling. I don't gulp by any means, but I don't have to take tiny sips either. I was worried that maybe something didn't take with the surgery! Yesterday I did have some very slight left back shoulder pain and pain at the base of my neck on the left side, and my mind went crazy, thinking I have a leak. I checked my temp and BP, and it was fine. I just took some pain medication and tried to not focus on it. Feeling fine this morning. Other than that I've been great. Things have just been going so well, I'm waiting for (and dreading) the shoe to drop. Yikes! ????

@@freelyme - lol, when I first started drinking Isop pre-op, I hated it. I think it's definitely an acquired taste!
-
Amylynns - not trying to get too personal here, but how have your bowel habits been? I'm dealing with diarrhea that hits me with very little warning (unfortunately). I'm hoping that by the time I'm able to introduce more solids, that will get better. Also, do you feel like you're able to drink your liquids more normally now vs constant small sips?
-
Freelyme - oops, you may not know what HyVee even is! It's a grocery store in my area. Where are you located?
-
Freelyme- I think I'm doing great considering I'm only 3 days post-op. Lots of noises coming from my tummy though! Feels like gas, and I'm hoping it clears up soon! I'm not sure how I feel about pureed meat, but we do what we have to do! Have you tried "Isopure" zero carb ready made? It's more like Gatorade, and is pretty good. I found it online, but my NUT says some HyVee stores carry it.

Amylynns- I live by Iowa City. We're not too far away from each other. Cool! So you're a week ahead of me. Glad to hear you're doing so well. I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Very thankful. I know at some point something will come up - probably when I'm able to introduce foods. What are you eating at this point?
-
Freelyme- my surgery date was 10/27. How are you doing?
-
Amylynns, I said the same thing to my husband just before my surgery on the 27th - "It's like I have the nesting urge or something!" Lol... I'm 3 days post-op, and feeling pretty good. I'm new to this board, so missed reading your surgery date. How far out are you? And, I see you're in IA - me too! Are you comfortable with sharing your city?
-
The 27th was my op day too! How are you feeling?
-
Awesome! I hope I have your luck! I'm 3 days post-op, so will have to just see what happens. Good luck with your recovery!
-
This is pretty much what I'm having too, although not as much diarrhea. Lots of loud gas movement. I'm 3 days post-op, so hoping it clears up soon. ????
-
Sorry, don't know why if I type the word "unjury" it gives you a link. ????
-
I've been using Isopure ready-made zero carb and Unjury. If you like broth, try the Unjury Chicken Soup - it's good!

I'm scheduled for October 27th! My surgeon is Dr. Aanestad (IA). I start my pre-op on the 13th, and from what I understand it's similar to a modified Atkins diet. No carbs, no sugar, no caffeine, high protein. I'm excited that it's finally here after almost a year getting there, but scared @ the same time.. Ready though!
