    OCTOBER 2014

I'm so ready for puréed foods! Monday can't come soon enough. I feel like my body is ready; have been feeling hunger-type pains this week. It actually feels like my old stomach is empty and hungry. I'm wondering if it's really possible to be feeling this..?

I don't start pureed until Monday, but I'd probably try it. Sounds yummy! Ate you afraid it's too high in fat?

Has anyone had any issues with plain water? Almost every time I drink it (usually at room temp), my stomach hurts. Not my pouch, but my intestinal area....I suppose I should stop referring to it as "stomach", lol. It's a crampy feeling that usually subsides after awhile, but it's uncomfortable. I don't know that it makes a difference, but I've been drinking bottled water. Any advice is appreciated!

@@Luna222 - glad you're feeling better. I'm not sure what I had going on this afternoon... I had 4 oz diluted low fat cream of chicken soup for lunch, and decided to add 1/2 scoop chicken soup flavored *unjury to get some addtl protein. It was way too salty, so I added a little more milk. Still not great, but I drank it. A few minutes later I started feeling like I had to go to the bathroom (sorry), and my heart was pounding. I took my BP and it was 130's/80-something (higher for me) and my pulse was upper 90's. I was initially headed to the grocery store, but decided to lay down for a while. 4 hours later, I'm just waking up. It wasn't terrible/bad pains, but is sounding like a mild case of dumping....?
  6. My surgeon encouraged the rny for me. It's the gold standard for bariatric surgery, has the longest track record for success, it's malabsorptive and restrictive, it forces compliance a little more than vsg, and if you have a sweet tooth, it helps with that. He also said that managing a leak with the sleeve is much trickier, and every surgeon's nightmare. And if you have any sort of issues with reflux, the sleeve is prob not your best option because with the sleeve a high pressure system is created, and it tends to exacerbate reflux issues. He was also concerned that I have a quirk with hiccups sometimes when I eat, and thought this could also cause a potential issue with the sleeve. Ultimately, I decided on rny and so far so good! I'm 10 day post-op, no issues, and down 13lbs. Good luck!
  7. It's such a bummer when you don't know what's going on in there, isn't it? I'm suddenly having a little bit of an issue with plain water. It makes my stomach hurt for awhile after I drink it! Mainly feels crampy... Congrats on your 18lbs gone! What a great feeling.

Ouch - sorry to hear that. I'm <2 weeks post-op, and luckily haven't dumped yet, but I'm scared about it. One thing I've read is that you can eat something one time with no issues and the next time it'll cause dumping. Yikes! I've also read that you should let your tummy rest by going back to lighter foods for a day after dumping. Get better soon!

I bought Walgreen's brand of liquid Tylenol, but noticed it has quite a bit of sugar so have stayed away from it. Does the CVS brand have less sugar?

    Problems with rice?

I found tons of recipes on Pinterest. I'm only a week post-op, but I'm saving all kinds of recipes for future use. I'm learning there are so many substitutions and healthier options to make a dish low carb, low sugar, and great!

    Low Self-Esteem Issues

It's really too bad that society makes people feel so ashamed for being overweight. Kids parrot what they learn, and it's sickening how young it starts. This is one of the worst forms of discrimination out there, yet society endorses and even encourages it. If people only knew the amount of pain that an overweight person carries in their heart.
  14. I'm an HR Manager, and I told my boss and my staff, and advised them that I wasn't telling many people, so requested privacy. I told very few people. Provided you're eligible for FMLA, I'd ask for it. Your doctor only has to provide enough information for your employer to be able to determine if your leave will be protected by FMLA. There are specific guidelines set by the DOL that the employer must follow when evaluating an FMLA request, and there are plenty of other pieces of information your doctor can provide without disclosing the diagnosis. However, speaking from the employer's perspective, it's much easier when the employee chooses to be a little more open about things. If you're eligible for the surgery from a medical and insurance standpoint and you're eligible for FMLA with your employer, I can't see why they'd deny the request. FMLA approved time (up to 480 hrs/yr) can't be counted against your attendance record or mentioned in your performance review either. If your concern is confidentiality, your employer is required by law to protect your privacy. HR is only supposed to share the fact that you're approved, time expected to be missed, restrictions, etc. with your supervisor. They can't freely share your confidential medical info. Good luck!

    Mentally Hungry

I can relate! Like you, it's not that I'm hungry, but thinking about what I'm going to add in my pureed phase, new recipes beyond that, etc. We had a family gathering last weekend, and it was a bummer that I couldn't join in the eating part of the festivities. Today I went to visit my sister and was suddenly obsessing about pizza - surely triggered by the fact that I would sometimes stop and grab a slice at a little shop by her house. Just a little obsessing going on in my corner. It'll pass. I think I'm just bored with liquids!
  16. I did a computerized test and went back a week later to review the results with the psychologist. They basically want to make sure you're mentally and emotionally stable and ready for the surgery. No questions on the test were specific to the procedure, just more about how I was feeling. I was a little worried, but it was no issue at all. Good luck!

I can relate. Have been enjoying the time off work to get used to all the changes, but I feel sad. I think slowly moving through all the stages is wearing on me. I'm only one week post-op too! Just trying to keep a positive attitude ????

    Sugar vs Sugar Free

I was a little scared to use stevia in my hot tea today, but no issues. I had some hot tea with Splenda at the hospital and no issues there either. Good luck!

2 week preop full liquid diet 1000-1200cal

Good luck with your surgery! The 11th will be here before you know it!
  22. So sorry for what you're going through. Luckily, I'm not having those complications, but I really feel for you. It's scary and taxing enough as it is with the surgery, but to have the battles you've faced is a lot for one person to bear. Keep the faith and good luck with your recovery - thinking of you and sending positive, healing vibes! ????

    Foods

Sugar free jello and pudding. I'm 6 days post-op so still on liquids. I add a little bit of sfree chocolate pudding (powder) to my cream of wheat. Yum!
  24. Thanks for sharing this - I'm only 6 days post-op, and wondering why I'm not getting that stuffed feeling from full liquids like sfree pudding or cream of wheat. No issues getting plenty of fluids in. Have been worried that something didn't take with my surgery!
