    Folks Who Have Had Complications

I was sleeved 3/26/14, on 3/27/14 I went back under because I had internal bleeding. I had lost 5 pints of blood and had to get a transfusion, which took a few hours for the hospital to receive my blood type. I was in the hospital for five days. I remember coming out of surgery that first day and doing ok, came out around 3'ish. By 6am the next morning, my drain had leaked everywhere and my chest hurt and I couldn't breath. Within minutes my room was full of nurses and surgeons and anesthiologist. I remember calling my husband, he was at home with the kids, telling him it was serious and have to have emergency surgery. The nurse took my phone to tell him what was going on as they wheeled back to the operating room. After the second surgery, my throat hurt realy bad from being intubated again. I was very tired and very anemic. Spent those next few days receiving bag after bag of blood (4 total). Found out the hospital had med-flew my blood there from 2 hours away. I stayed very anemic and tired for several weeks. It probably was about 4 weeks out that I finally had any energy and my iron was back to normal, no longer anemic. 13 weeks out now, doing great! Even with the complications, I would do it all over again!

    Any Military Sleevers?

Melissa, Attend the monthly bariatric seminar! They have been held the first week if the month! You will get tons of information! You will need your primary dr to put in a referral for you to meet Dr. Cancelada and he will confirm if you are a candidate for the sleeve! Then you get to attend weekly classes about nutrition and met with a dietitian. You will be assigned a case manager. You'll also need to see a psychologist/psychiatrist. Yes, Tricare covers it. It is a new program that started here at Riley. So far the only places that have this is Ft. Lewis, Ft. Carson and now here!

I found out I have sleep apnea and was still able to have the surgery. I am sorry to hear that yours has to be delayed. I was sleeved 3/26 and didn't get my cpap machine till last week. It takes a little getting use to it. My pressure is set at 11, and if it weren't for the ramp feature I don't know how I would do it. The ramp starts the pressure at 7 and slowly goes up to 11. I am hoping after more weight comes off I can redo the sleep study and not need it.
  6. I am curious about others and what stages for liquids/foods were recommended for them. Mine are as follows, in order, varying lengths of time: 1-2 weeks Clear liquids 2-4 weeks modified Liquids 2-4 weeks Puréed foods 2-4 weeks Soft foods So if all goes well and according to this, it will be 7 weeks at the earliest for soft foods! What does everyone else's look like? Anyone similar? Thanks!

I am tired of liquids! I spend my day sipping Isopure to get my proteins in! Then an occasional sugar free Popsicle! The warm broths make me feel to queasy. I did take a few small bites of a Wendy's frosty, tasted like heaven, after a few spoonfuls I knew I was full!

Honestly, I have no idea what I'll try! Don't want together my hopes up and be told I need another week on liquids! A super soft mashed banana does sound yummy though! Probably a lot of applesauce. Have always been a picky eater, guess when you have never been introduced to certain foods (especially vegetables), it is hard to get past the barrier of just trying it!

    Who Are You?

I had internal bleeding and had to go back into surgery. Had lost a lot blood and had to get a transfusion, which took a while to match my blood because of antibodies in my blood. Nearest bank was two hours away.

I'm 5'2", HW 225, SW 201.5, CW 186. The surgery went well but had a lot of post op complications that kept me there for 6 days. I am doing pretty well. Most days I can get all my protein in, some I just can't.

    Any Military Sleevers?

I just had mine done at Ft. Riley. The bariatric program just started here and I was in the first group to have it done here. The surgery went as I expected. I had a lot of post op complications right after and was in the hospital for 6 days. The staff on the surgery floor were fantastic!
