I was told by by insurance co (Cigna) that you have to be on a supervised diet by a nutrtionist. The docor that is doing the bypass has a nutrtionist in his office. So it will be March or April before I can have the bybass

I just received a call from the Surgery Center, made a appointment for next week, I am so excited. I also made a appointment for a seminar for next week also. They told me I had to have a letter of refferal from my Primary Doctor, so I called and they told me I would have to get a letter from insurance company. So there is some confusion there but I am sure I can get thru it. I have to go to a nutritionist for 6 months before the surgery is performed according to my Insurance Company(Cigna HMO). But I am very hopefull and hope everything works out. It has helped reading all the boards and some very interesting stories, I am sure this will help during this long process. If anyone has any input I would love to hear from you. By the way I live in Florida and I will be going to a Surgical Weight Reduction Surgery Center in Wellington. If anyone out there has any info about the hospital please write. :whoo:

I was told you basically have to have like 6 letters, showing what diet you were on. how much you weighed and lost for the month. Then it is sumitted to the Insurance Co. Why did they deny You...Yikes that is scary.

I am new to this also, i first found a qualified surgeon and they contacted my insurance which is hmo, i need to be on a guided and supervised diet for 6 month with my regular medical doctor before the insurance will cover the lap band procedure, in which i don't mind, but i have been on a diet with Beverly Diet Center for the past 7 months but I guess that does not count. Very frustrated..

Need you find out if anyone has experienced this problem with their Insurance Company. I called a Surgeon today and did a short interview they took my insurance info but they told me I would probably have to be on a Diet with my Family Doctor for at least 6 months before the Insurance would let me have the lap banding done. I was really shocked, I didn't realize this would be such a long process.
