  1. Hi - I saw your weight loss & it pretty much matches mine. I was sleeved 5/12/14 & as of this morning I have lost 39 lbs. I am allowed 1,000 calories a day & try & keep my carbs under 60. I also get in 60+ Proteins a day. I too do not like Water & I do not get my 64 ozs. I do use the Fitness Pal app on my IPhone. This helps to keep me on track with my daily allowances for calories, carbs & Protein. If you don't have it on your phone I would look into that. I use a bariatric multi Vitamin & Calcium tablets that I got at The Vitamin Shoppe. These are chewable & not to bad. They are just sort of "powdery" when you start eating them. They are flavored so that helps. I also got stalled at about 3 weeks for a week & since then I get stalled every few days & will loose for a couple of days. I know, I should stop weighing myself except once a week. Hope you find a vitamin that your stomach likes.
  2. These comments are good & I hope you are encouraged by them. The one thing I would add is educate the people around you what the difference is in the various bariatric surgeries. Tell them yours is slower & that it is intended to be that way. Good luck with your journey & don't allow people to get you down.
  3. Try the strawberry Premier Protein shake. I'm 9 weeks post op & can only drink 1/2 of the carton. I drink the other 1/2 for a snack. Also, I like the Syntrax Nectar product. You can buy individual packages so you can try different flavors. I make mine with light soy milk. These shacks aren't as thick as Premier. UNJURY makes good shakes too. Good luck with your journey.
  4. My surgeon said to wait until my incisions wee completely healed. I still have a scab on my big incision so until it's gone I won't get in a pool or hot tub. It has taken a long time to heal so I don't want to mess it up.

    RAP Protein Gummy Snacks

Those would wipe out over half my daily allowance of carbs. I try to stay under 60 carbs per day. Also, you are drinking a carbonated drink? I was told to stay away from them.

    Sleeved July 10, 2014

As for side sleeping, I was able to do this when I got home from the hospital.

    Sleeved July 10, 2014

I started walking around my apartment the week after surgery. At 6 weeks I was allowed to add in machines to help with strength & muscles. I still drink 1 Protein drink a day & try to drink a second one for a snack. This counts towards liquid & I'm terrible about drinking Water.
  8. I have noticed I don't crave sweet stuff anymore. What I do like is salty foods such as crackers & chips. Go figure.
  9. We do this here in Dallas at the Baylor Plano Medical Center. We meet the second Wednesday each month for a support group & the first half hour is a clothing exchange. I think it's a great idea. Sure will save money on clothes.
  10. I use a CPAP but I'm only 9 weeks (tomorrow) out. I have lost 37 lbs but that was mostly at the beginning of my journey. I saw my pulmonologist on 6/10/14 & he was pleased with my progress. I see him again in October & at that time he is going to have me bring home a self testing kit instead of sending me to a sleep study lab. At that time he will determine if I can get rid of the CPAP altogether. I hope so. The biggest reason I was put on the CPAP was because of my oxygen levels not how many times I stopped breathing, which was only 6 times. Anything up thru 5 times they don't put you on a CPAP. Now if I can just get rid of the oxygen 24/7 I will be a very happy person. Good luck with your CPAP. Ask your pulmonologist about the home testing kit.

    my journey - down 103lbs

First let me say I'm sorry to hear about your baby. That is really tough. I'm glad you posted that your weight loss is slow. I will be 9 weeks post op tomorrow & have lost 37 lbs. I know that's good but I have slowed down & have had several stalls. I keep a food journal so that keeps me in line. It was when I went on solid food that my weight loss slowed. I was getting to many carbs so I have corrected that. I'm thinking about doing liquids for a couple of days & then bring in solid foods slowly. I also need to get off of my lazy rear & start exercising. I am on oxygen 24/7 so dragging my portable oxygen is a pain in the fanny. I know, I just need to stop whining & do it. Good luck with your continued journey.

    Cheating during Post Op

The book that was written for Sleeve surgery is very good. You don't have to buy the book (I did and glad I did that) because you can download the chapters you want right here on Bariatric Pal. I suggest you do this. It's a wealth of information & will give you the stages you should be at and what kind of food you should be eating. I combined the info in this book with what my surgeon & NUT gave me & have done really well - except for the stalls. Those suck. Good advice about finding a doctor that will work with you on this surgery. I can't imagine not having a doctor follow your progress. Good luck with your Sleeve. I'm soooooo glad I did this.
  13. I started the week I had my surgery. I went to The Vitamin Shoppe & got the multi vitamin & the calcium. They sell liquid & chewable pills made specifically for bariatric surgery patients. The B-12 I got at Walmart.

    Protein shake samples

So far everything I have bought had directions. Also, my stomach couldn't tolerate using water. I use soy milk light with my protein powders.

    Clothes

I know someone that was sleeved 3 years ago & she said to check out the thrift shops for clothes until you loose all the weight. A friend told me to check out the sales racks at Macy's & Ross's Dress For Less. Let us know what you find.

    Carbs Help?!

I have to keep my carbs under 50 or I will not loose. I didn't have trouble with that until at 6 weeks post op my surgeon raised me from 800 to 1,000 calories per day. I wasn't told what my carb level should be but reading what others are allowed is what I have based my carb intake on.
  17. I keep a food diary & found I was consuming to many carbs. I cut that back to less than 60 carbs per day & then lost 2 more pounds over the week. Good luck with your journey.

    New Whey

I bought 2 & managed to gag down 1. Haven't had the courage to drink the other one. My stomach totally revolts at the idea. Think I will just toss out the remaining one.
  19. The only people that should be injecting themselves with a blood thinner after surgery would be people already on a blood thinner before surgery. I have been on blood thinners for years because of a heart issue (AFIB). I had a hysterectomy several years ago & ended up with a blood clot in my lung. As a result I'm a bit paranoid about making sure I do an injectable blood thinner a few days before surgery because I have to stop my Coumadin pills. This is the first time I had to give myself shots after a procedure & then it was only for 3 days while my Coumadin was started & had to "catch up". If you are not on a blood thinner I can't imagine why you would need any shots or pills for this. Hope this helps you.
  20. Inject yourself with what? I had to inject myself with Lovanox (sp?) because I take a blood thinner. I always have to do this for any surgery or dental appt. Has nothing to do with the Sleeve surgery. I think there is all sorts of misinformation out there. I have not regretted having this surgery. I have had very little pain & little nausea. All that happened before I left the hospital. I was in there 2 days & left on the 3rd day. I wish you all the best in our Sleeve journey.

Where are all my May Sleevers?

I have been blessed in that I have not had any nausea & vomiting. I got a little queasy at times but I would drink UNJURY's chicken broth. I am glad I had this surgery. Yesterday I started pulling out winter clothes I won't be able to wear when cold weather hits. Sure made a dent in my closet. I have clothes put away that I can now wear. Yay
  22. I found the Syntrax Nectur very good. You can get individual serving packages at The Vitamin Shoppe or online. I love the vanilla Torte. You can try different flavors without getting stuck with a tub you don't like. Also unjury has a pretty good chicken broth. I use that when my stomach feels icky or I need more Protein for the day. Good luck with your surgery & your sleeve journey.
  23. I have COPD, on oxygen 24/7, no spleen, gout issues & AFIB. My family was worried about whether I could deal with surgery. I came thru with flying colors. I feel so much better already. So glad I did this. I would make sure your dad has a very good surgeon. Also, my PCP was in favor of this surgery. I am 70 & he has other older patients who have had this surgery & done very well. My PCP is both my internist & cardiologist.

I would have quit 1,000 times by now...

I can really see myself in these comments. I laughed at the comment about not sitting in the plastic chairs. I was always afraid the chair would collapse with me in it. One time when I sat in one of those chairs I went to get up & the chair got up with me. Very embarrassing.
  25. This is a wonderful post. I see posts by people who really are down on themselves. At least on this web site we all get & receive wonderful encouragement. Thanks for these little words of wisdom.
