Time will fly by really fast. I'm so glad I did this surgery. This is a life long commitment. Congrats on your decision & your surgery date.

I was told that with the Sleeve you shouldn't have the dumping issue. That is more of an issue with the Gastric Bypass. Maybe you ate more than your new tummy could handle. That will make you sick too. I've done that a couple of times & it took about 2 hours for that horrible feeling to go away. I weigh/measure everything I eat & I use the phone app, MyFitnessPal. Can't tell you how much this has helped. Welcome to the Sleeve family. I wish you great success with your journey.

5 weeks from my one year anniverssary. Have 35lbs to go
maxcimax replied to OHHLALA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Increase your calories. Has your doctor had you on 800 calories? My doctor upped me from 800 to 1000 at my 6 week appt. I see her next week & will probably increase me to 1200 calories for the rest of the time I'm on this diet. Be careful to not raise your carbs at the same. Good luck getting rid of the rest of your pounds. -
Question for the women
maxcimax replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tummy has gotten smaller but I wear long shirts to hid it. I'm hoping it continues to get smaller. It's my understanding that it takes about 2 years for your skin to tighten up. My daughter had a tummy tuck & it was painful. At my age (70) i'm not sure I want to go thru this. Hopefully I have enough elasticity left in my skin to keep it from dragging the ground. Lol. -
4 days post op question!
maxcimax replied to onthefencejenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I consumed about the same amount for the first week. It gets better. I drank chicken broth (UNJURY) for protein & to settle my stomach. It gets better. Good luck with your sleeve. -
supplements and protein
maxcimax replied to LainieG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still drink at least 1protein drink a day. I like Premier Protein in the strawberry. I buy it direct from their website because Costco doesn't carry it very often. I like Syntrax Nectar flavors the best. I mix it in light vanilla soy milk. My vitamins come from The Vitamin Shoppe & are ones for bariatric patients. I also like Quest protein bars. -
Drinking alcohol post-op, your experiences?
maxcimax replied to PlzCoolerMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are putting yourself thru WLS why would you be worried about drinking? Are you having this surgery for the right reasons? If you can't give up alcohol then maybe you should reconsider the surgery. Having a drink once in awhile is one thing but several drinks several times a week is another matter. You don't have to drink to have a good time. Good luck on your WLS journey. It will be worth it. It is also a lifetime commitment. -
Surgeon gave me my 1st goal 1mo post op
maxcimax replied to Jewells70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
50# in 2 months I think is stupid & unhealthy. At my 6 week checkup my doctor wanted me to loose 15# by the time I see her next week. I will be 12 weeks post op by then. Right now at 11 weeks I'm down 43#. I'm happy with that. Losing weight with the Sleeve is slower than the Band or Bypass. Good luck with your journey. -
I don't spend that much money on my Vitamins each month. I take B12 only on Monday's. The multi Vitamin & the calcium I take every day. I get mine from The Vitamin Shoppe & they are for bariatric patients. I was taking the Flintstone vitamins but was worried they wouldn't be enough so I switched. I will have my labs next week & will see then if what I am taking is doing the job for me. Lots of good advice on this website.

what is everyone eating?
maxcimax replied to Antonia_megan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are doing quite well. I was sleeved on 5/12/14 also. I'm down 42 lbs but I do this "stair step" thing too. I think a slower weight loss is better for your body & your skin in particular. I'm a bit concerned about my skin sagging. -
Biotin question...how much do you take?
maxcimax replied to mentalistfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a chewable 5,000 mg Biotin dailey. My primary care doctor told me to take this about 4 years ago. -
I was told that unless my temperature hit 101 or higher I didn't need to worry but take some crushed Tylonol. I hope this helps you. Good luck with you new journey. It's worth it.

I have an electronic Weight Watcher scale & it sucks too. I can get on it 2 or 3 times in a row & get different weights. I now just step on it once & write that weight down. These scales are so sensitive that I even put tape on it so I would stand in the same place each time. I know, weird. I'm going to get an old fashioned scale with the dial. I think those are more accurate & you don't have to have batteries. LOL

when do you start getting rid of clothes?
maxcimax replied to Wires's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went thru my closet & tossed out a whole bag of clothes. It was such a wonderful feeling. I can't wait to do it again. I'm retired so I don't have to have much in the way of clothes. I am wearing shirts & shorts that haven't seen the light of day in about 3 or 4 years. The only thing I will need in a few weeks will be underwear. My buns are getting smaller. -
Seventy & having sleeve surgery
maxcimax replied to maxcimax's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone. Just to update everyone. I had my surgery 5/12/14 & so glad I did. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I did not have any complications, little pain after 2 days & no nausea. I'm now on solid foods & trying to make good food decisions. Weight is a little slow coming off. I will loose a pound or two & then nothing for 2 or 3 days. I'm down 42 lbs & I'm happy about that. My biggest issue is exercise. I'm on oxygen 24/7 & dragging around an oxygen tank is a big pain in the neck. I have a portable concentrator on wheels & weighs about 10 lbs but to go walking I have to drag it with me. Anyone else have this issue? If so, how do you handle it? On a positive note, I no longer have to use a cart when I go to Wal-Mart. I put my portable concentrator in a shopping basket & away I go. -
I'm lucky. I love chocolate but I didn't crave it after surgery. They say some of us have changes in our taste buds. I believe that because for a while I couldn't get enough salt. Even that has gotten better. They also say if you can stay away from sweets for 30 days you will break the habit. I'm not a soda drinker so I haven't had that issue. I don't drink enough Water so for me that is an issue. Good luck with your journey. Do find a support group. We have 3 of them here in Dallas that I know of & I go to one of them. Such a big help. The one I just started going to also has a clothes swap. Great idea.

BMs sorf covered before unable to find in search
maxcimax replied to Ree224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an issue when I went on soft foods. Not drinking enough Water (which I'm guilty of) will aggravate constipation. I got so bad after about 5 days that I was physically ill. I got the Wild Cherry flavor of milk of magnesia & it worked wonders. Also, I don't know about your NUT but mine said no gummies of any kind. My surgeon said the same thing. You might want to ask your NUT before using them. I think they are a great idea & definitely taste better than other Vitamins & minerals. Don't let your constipation go to long or you will end up with an impaction & I understand that is not a good thing. It will require an ER visit. I am going to try that tea too. Sounds like a great idea. -
Moving past a WL stall
maxcimax replied to sma102205's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everything Kindle said but I will add one more thing. Carbs, for me, are a killer for weight loss. As long as I stay under 50 or 60 carbs my weight will come down. When I have a day when my carbs are up around 80 or more the weight stops. When, at 6 weeks, I was told to raise my calorie intake from 800 to 1,000 the extra carbs came with that increase. I keep a food diary but I wasn't told to keep my carbs down. I had days when my carb count was 80 - 100. Very easy to do when you don't watch what the carb count is in your food. Thank goodness people talked about this issue & most people recommended 50 carbs per day. I started doing this & got thru my stall. If you aren't already doing a food diary, you should. Keeps me on track. I use MyFitnessPal & have been amazed at the foods listed on this app. Hopes this helps. Good luck. -
I did not measure myself at first & wish I had. I just did this last week after 9 weeks. I knew I was shedding inches by the way my clothes were fitting.

This is new and scary
maxcimax replied to starspring's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 10 weeks post op & I'm having the same issue. I can only eat 3oz & then i'm full. I try to drink water & that helps with this hungry feeling. -
Please help! Weight stall!
maxcimax replied to jazzypooh89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 5/12/14 & I have also lost 40 lbs. You are doing really well. At my 6 week check up my surgeon raised my calories to 1,000 per day. If you don't consume enough calories your body will think it's starving & will store fat. I also have a pound or two that will go up & down for a couple of days & then will drop. I need to stop weighing every day. Bad habit. I also use MyFitnessPal. It keeps me on track. I drink a protein drink when I get up in the morning. This will get you started on your protein for the day. I bought a Dummies cookbook for bariatric surgery patients & it has a lot of good information. Check it out. Good food ideas & has the calorie, carb & protein counts. Good luck on your journey. -
What are your opinions on eating avocados?
maxcimax replied to bakawaka's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The problem with avocados is there are a lot of varieties & they differ in calories, carbs & Protein. I eat Hass avocado grown in California. Florida avocados are a different variety. I ate avocados pre op & I eat them now but in small amounts. A medium Hass has 250 calorie, 13 carbs & 3 protein. I have to watch my carbs so I'm careful about how much I eat. Keep a food diary. Very important. I have MyFitnessPal on my iPhone & it has helped me a great deal. Good luck with your journey. -
What are your Pre-Op diet guidlines?
maxcimax replied to mamaofmatthew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon had me on a two week liquid diet before surgery & I also followed this diet for two weeks after surgery. I had 3 Premier Protein shakes a day along with UNJURY's Chicken broth, lots of water & hot tea. No solid food. Hope this helps with your question. -
because bariatric surgery is done all over the U.S. I would imagine your surgeon here in TX would refer you to someone in the area you are moving to. I wish you all the success with your pending surgery. You won't regret it.

I am 9 weeks post op & never had any nausea except when they put me on an antibiotic because my biggest incision wasn't healing well. The antibiotic was a preventive measure but it made me nauseated so I drank chicken broth from unjury.
