For 2 or 3 weeks after surgery my tummy would not tolerate Premier Protein shakes of any kind. I used these protein drinks before surgery & was just fine with them. It was about week 3 before I could drink them again after surgery. I drink one almost every morning when I get up & I switch between the chocolate & strawberry. I heard the vanilla was awful but I understand the new vanilla is good. They also have a new flavor. I think it's some sort of berry flavor. I'm going to check Kroger's because they are supposed to sell them individually. I don't want to buy a case & find out I hate it. I hope your tummy gets past it's issue with Premier Protein shakes.

not taking protein shakes
maxcimax replied to aliess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know every surgeon is different but I have never seen diet instructions like yours. Protein is SO important because it helps with healing. I'm 3 months out & still have a Protein shake every morning. If you check on the books "The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve" you will see the different stages of the diet for the Sleeve. I used it along with my surgeon's instructions & I did really well. You can download parts of this book here in this website. I recommend it & think you will get a lot of information your surgeon didn't give you. What country are you in? Do you have access to a support group? I highly recommend them. I'm in Dallas, TX & we have several support groups around Dallas. Good luck on your journey. -
How do u know ur hungry?
maxcimax replied to New Me Twentyfourteen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've noticed everyone is different in how their tummy's let them know when they are full. I get a funny sensation across the top of my tummy that lets me know it's full. It's kind of a heavy feeling. If I ignore this sensation & take another bite or two then I am miserable for an hour or two. So not worth it!! -
What is reasoning for not drinking water with meals?
maxcimax replied to PlzCoolerMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquids will keep you from getting enough food nutrients in because the liquids will take up space in your tummy that should be filled with food. Don't put liquids on the table when you eat. Drinking with meals is just another habit we all have to break. Fortunately for me I was never a big liquid drinker with my meals anyway. -
First, 30 lbs in 2 months is good. Everyone is different & your weight loss has been very good. I'm 3 months out & have lost about 48 lbs. I'm currently in a "stall" but I do this a lot. I will loose for a couple of days & then nothing for a couple of days. We are all different so don't get discouraged. I've lost a lot of inches. Yay!! I use MFP during the day because it has the calorie/carb/protein information. In the afternoon I transfer the information to my Diet Minder & see if I'm short on calories or Protein or over on my carbs. I allow 50 grams of carbs per day. Sometimes I go over but I try not to. Carbs are my biggest enemy. I get in about 800 to 1000 calories & 60+ Proteins a day. Keeping track of what I eat keeps me in check as to what I put in my mouth. Good luck with your journey.

I start everyday with a protein shake. At the end of the day if I'm short on protein I will drink another one or 1/2 of one. I have a friend that is 3 years post op & still drinks a shake everyday & a protein bar as well. She is in great shape skin & muscle wise & she says it's because she drinks the shakes. I intend to do the same.

Sleepy after eating?
maxcimax replied to aecwicker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleepy for about 3 or 4 weeks. I'd get up in the morning & be back in bed about 2 hours later & would sleep about 3 hours. It finally went away. Hang in there - everything gets better. -
I didn't start my pre op diet early but I had to be on it for 2 weeks. Some people have posted that they only had to be on this diet for 1 week. I had to drink 3 Protein shakes per day (60 - 80 grams total for women, men get 80 - 100 per day), sugar free Clear liquids, unlimited (Crystal light, unsweetened tea, Water, broth, decaf coffee-no sugar), sugar free popsicles & my Multivitamin. I also had to follow this same liquid diet post op for 2 weeks & then went to the soft foods. I know different doctors require different things but my surgeon is pretty conservative & I did not have any issues after surgery. Very little pain, no gas or nausea. I had to go an antibiotic for 10 days that made me sick so I drank unjury chicken Broth when I felt sick & it worked like a charm. It's better than the canned stuff. I just had to put a little bit of salt in it. For some reason I had a big salt craving. I wanted salty stuff, not sweet stuff. My nurse said this wasn't unusual. I didn't crave sweets & still don't - what a blessing that is. Good luck with your pre op diet & with your surgery. You will be amazed at how fast the time goes. Hang in there & follow your doctor's orders. You will be better for it.

Where are all my May Sleevers?
maxcimax replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was 5/12/14 & I'm down 45 lbs. Yay! So happy I did this. Haven't had any issues with any food I've tried. Saw my surgeon yesterday & she's happy with my progress. Tossed out all my 3x shirts but still wearing my size 24 pants but they are getting baggy. Washed all my old size 22 & 20 pants so I have pants to wear. I'm retired so I don't have to worry about work outfits. That helps with the clothing budget. Onward & downward everyone. -
Some people you can't make happy & there is no sense getting down on her level. I love the comments about bringing her a cupcake & bringing your old clothes to her. Make sure you do that in front of people. Let us all know what you do. I'm blessed in the fact I have had nothing but support but I'm retired so I don't have any office issues.

Pre surgery person with questions!
maxcimax replied to Linds14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was tired at first but got past that in about 2 or 3 weeks. Never been ill. No complications - no pain except first 2 days, no nausea. Absolutely no regrets. Smartest thing I have done in a long time. Tips - join a support group. You will be surprised what you will learn there. No carbonated drinks - ever. I tried a couple of sips & it didn't feel very good. Don't be nervous. Also, learn to use MyFitnessPal and/or write down everything you eat. I got off track by not doing this. I add up everything at the end of the day to make sure I'm eating what I'm supposed to do. Also, even 12 weeks post op I still drink a Protein shake first thing in the morning. I have a friend who had her sleeve surgery 3 years ago and she still drinks shakes. I plan on making them a part of my diet for the rest of my life. Good luck on your surgery. You won't regret it. -
Sick 5 weeks after surgery- any extra risks?
maxcimax replied to tiredmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since your temperature is over 101 I would call my surgeon & check with them. Since you apparently caught what your son has they might say not to worry but with new surgery I wouldn't take any chances. Your immune system might have issues. Hope you feel better soon. -
I had a doctor appointment today & asked that question about hair loss. I already take Biotin & she said to add Zinc. I haven't lost hair yet but I'm 12 weeks post op so I'm trying to keep my hair. If I don't, I guess I had better invest in a wig. LOL

Nausea Question
maxcimax replied to chasingpolaris321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very fortunate. I never did get nauseated. I only had pain for the 2 days I was in the hospital & that was controlled with the "do it yourself" meds they give you after any surgery. From everything I've read I was pretty lucky to not be ill. I'm truly grateful for that. -
Clumps in my protein shake
maxcimax replied to Ima1020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this problem also. I bought a Ninja (the $49 one) & I use light soy milk to mix the powder in. I can't stand the water. I only "pulse" the mixture or else I get lots of froth. This has cured it for me. After you mix the water & powder try pouring it thru a strainer. This should eliminate the lumps. Then press the lumps thru the strainer so you get all the protein powder. Syntrax Nectar & Unjury are my favorite powders. I saw a lot of good advice for this issue & I learned something also. Thanks for asking this question. -
60 Days Post-Op and 85 pounds gone
maxcimax replied to Ripper's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations on your weight loss. You are doing so well. I've thrown out clothes that are to big for me too & it is such a great feeling. -
I tried the Isopur drinks too & poured them out. Fortunately I only bought 3. I had to take an antibiotic that made me very nauseated. I bought unjury chicken broth. It settled my stomach & I got in some of my Protein allotment. You can only use hot Water that doesn't exceed 140 degrees because the powder will lump. I suggest you use whatever blender you have to mix the water & powder. I used a wisk & I had lumps. I have the small Ninja & it works well. Believe me, it gets easier. I'm 11 weeks out & very happy I had the Sleeve surgery. I'm wearing clothes that haven't seen the light of day in 3 or 4 years. I've already filled a trash bag with clothes to big to wear & sent it to Goodwill. Yay!!

Fat, Carbs and Proteins Oh My!
maxcimax replied to SpecialNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned to use MyFitnessPal & glad I did. I was tracking everything in my head & found I wasn't doing a very good job. The MFP keeps me on track. I found I was eating to many carbs & it was slowing/stopping my weight loss. At mid afternoon I add up all my calories, carbs & protein to see what I should eat for dinner & an evening snack. If my protein intake is low for the day I will drink a protein shake. I use the Syntrax Nectar individual servings with light vanilla soy milk. -
I was told not to get into any bath, pool, hot tub or anything that you would be submerged in until all incisions are healed. It took 10 weeks for my main incision to heal completely. I'm going to start going to my daughter's house & swim in her pool. We have a pool at our apt. complex but who knows what's in the water will all the kids swimming in there.

Help! need advice! feel like i am clogged!
maxcimax replied to hopeliveshere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT said to stay away from white bread unless it is toasted. I assume what you ate is a kind of white bread. Apparently some breads will be "gummy" in your stomach & will clog you up. I have no idea how to get rid of it if that's the culprit. Hope you feel better soon. -
Calorie Intake 3+ months Post Op
maxcimax replied to LidiBell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon had me on 600 calories for the first 6 weeks. At my 6 week check up she raised my calories to 1,000. I see her next week & I should be upped to 1,200. This will be my maximum for the rest of my life. I also use My Fitness Pal. I track calories, carbs, fiber & protein. MFP is a huge help. Carbs are my biggest enemy. I try to stay under 50 carbs/day. -
Anyone out there have to get an echocardiogram before cardiologist would give you clearance?
maxcimax replied to lose4life2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon requires an echo also. In my case i'm on oxygen 24/7 & I use a CPAP. I also have Afib so it was important to make sure I didn't have any blockages. My cardiologist & pulmonologist both signed off on my surgery. My breathing has already improved. So glad I had this surgery. -
My surgeon said to wait until my incisions are completely healed. It took 9 weeks. Enjoy the swimming.

Appetite question.....still pre-op
maxcimax replied to Bobby46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first 2 weeks I could have cared less about food. I was on liquid diet at that point. After I was on soft foods my thoughts of regular food started popping up. But, I was faithful to my diet because I didn't want to ruin all the work I had put into this procedure. I was on regular food at 6 weeks & I eat most things but in very tiny amounts. My taste buds changed so I haven't had much in the way of cravings. I had a craving for Chinese sweet & sour so I ate about 1/2 cup. I didn't enjoy it. My taste buds revolted. Won't do that again. What I have craved is salty foods. Even that's starting to go away. -
That is a big decision. I have a cousin that had the Band & has had issues. She has gained a lot of her weight back. My niece had the Bypass & lost a lot of weight very quickly. She has done really well but did have issues with dumping. The Sleeve you don't have the dumping issue & the weight loss is slower. I wish you the best with whatever surgery you choose.
