    Hate protein shakes!

I drink Premier Protein shakes in chocolate & strawberry. They MUST be cold. I also get Syntrax nectar but I mix mine in Silk unsweetened vanilla. I tried Water & couldn't stand it. You can buy individual servings at The Vitamin Shoppe. This way you can try various flavors without having to buy a huge container of the powder. I tried the Isopur drink & couldn't stand it. Tried to give it to my adult kids & they wouldn't drink it either. Ended up throwing out 4 bottles. Good luck with your surgery.
  2. I was nauseated too but my surgeon suggested Unjury's chicken broth in powder form. It saved me. I would drink this broth & the nausea would subside. You also get some of your daily Protein requirement. Be sure & read the directions. If the liquid you are mixing the powder into is to hot the powder will lump. Trust me, not a good thing. Use a whisk to mix the powder into the liquid. I also put a tiny bit of salt into the broth.
  3. I only get the hiccups when I am full. I didn't even starting getting them until I was about 4 months out.

    22 day revolution

I've been stalled for about 2 months. Sucks too. I just went back on the liquid, soft foods & solids the way I did when I had the surgery. My surgeon agreed with me to take 1 day a week & have only protein shakes after I get thru with what I'm doing now. I let carbs get the best of me & I'm trying to break the habit. You eat to many carbs & your body wants more. This is not any easy diet & it will be a lifetime change in eating habits. It's worth it tho'. I feel so much better.
  5. Don't skip your last two shots!! Several years ago I had surgery & I ended up with a blood clot in my right lung. Spent a week in the hospital hooked up to a bag of Heprin. I was very ill & happy I lived to tell the tale. I'm on Warfarin for life because of a heart issue so I have to stop my Warfarin when I have any surgery or dental work done. Believe me, I was only to glad to give myself shots.

    1-2 week what to drink?

If you have The Vitamin Shoppe in your area they sell Syntrax nectar powder that you can buy by the individual package. This way you don't spend a fortune on a large container only to find you hate the stuff. My favorite is vanilla Bean Torte. Also, I used Unjury's chicken soup mix. I still drink it sometimes. It would also settle my stomach if I got nauseated. The only thing you must remember with this powder is do not put it in really hot Water. It will clump. The container will tell you the maximum degree of heat. I was fortunate that I never had issues with Premier Protein RTD shakes. I still keep them in my refrigerator so that if I'm in a hurry I just grab one & drink it. I hate plain water so I drink Crystal Light. I keep a large container in my refrigerator & try to keep my glass full. I also drink decaf tea. Getting in your protein & fluids & watching your calories will go a long way in helping with your weight loss. Syntrax Nectar, unjury & Premier Protein all have web sites you can order from. This is what I do. I also like the website Bariatric Choice where I get my Jello & hot chocolate mixes. They have a lot of stuff. There are other websites where you can buy food. Good luck with your surgery.

    Am I doing this right?

I would also add that you should keep a food journal if you don't already do it. Also, I use My Fitness Pal to keep track of my calories, protein, carbs, etc. I also wear a Fitbit to keep track of my liquids & steps. My daughter is tied to my Fitbit on line so she sees what I'm doing & she fusses at me for not walking enough. I think the mother/daughter relationship has been reversed. LOL

    Drinking

Most surgeons want you to not drink any liquids 30 mins before & after you finish your meal. By drinking liquids with your meal you wash your food down before you get all of the nutrients. Hope this helps.

    Not taking care of myself

I am so sorry for your loss. Years ago Iost my husband & 10 months later I lost my Mom. It took me 2 years to get into a grief support group. I recommend finding a grief support ASAP. I should have done it sooner. They helped me a lot. My support group was run by a church & for me that was important. It still took some time to get my act together but I hate to think of what would have happened if I never started going to this group. Ask your surgeon about this & hopefully he/she will have a suggestion for you. Or even someone in the office might know of a group. It's so important for you to take better care of yourself. I wish you well in your journey.

Eating out - I just need to vent.

I eat out frequently (mostly breakfast) & have had only one restaurant that wouldn't let me order off the kid's menu. I have struck that restaurant from the places I go. I live in Dallas & most wait staff have heard of WLS & are curious how I am doing. I also eat at the same restaurants & I have gotten to know the wait staff so I don't have to explain myself. People have been really good about suggesting foods and/or making substitutions for me.

    Stomach Stretching

I got the Kindle version of the 5 Day Pouch Test & it's very interesting. I'm going to try it. I'm a year out & my carb cravings are awful! I haven't lost any weight in about 2 months. Also, I read that when the 85% of your stomach is removed the stretchy part is in that 85% & what is left doesn't stretch or at least only a little. If you had your Sleeve surgery several years ago I would ask someone about this since the surgery has probably changed a little. Good luck with finding your answer.

    Sleep Apnea

I am one of the 6% of people who suffer from COPD because of second hand smoke. Before surgery I was using oxygen 24 hrs. a day & a CPAP w/ oxygen at night. So far I've lost about 85 lbs & no longer have to use the CPAP & I've cut down the oxygen I need. I can actually walk short distances w/o my oxygen. I can sit and watch TV and turn my machine off. I'm so excited!! COPD isn't curable but at least the weight loss has made it more livable.

    Best protein?

I like Premier Protein in the chocolate & strawberry. I haven't tried vanilla. They came out with a smaller shake in a mixed berry. I hated it & threw out 3 containers. I could hardly get thru the 1 I did drink. As for the powders I like Syntrax nectar in Vanilla Torte, Fuzzy Navel & a couple of others. You can buy them in individual servings & I recommend buying these until you figure what flavors you want. I also mix my Protein powder with Silk milk. I hate using Water. I get my powder from The Vitamin Shoppe. You can also order it online from their website or from Amazon. The unjury chicken Soup is good. I used it a lot at first when my stomach was a bit nauseated. I also have a jar of their unflavored powder that I use Torini sugar free flavors with. Those are really good. I have the vanilla & chocolate. Torini has a website to order from. I don't know of any stores that sell this liquid flavoring.
  14. I never had problems getting in enough Protein even when I was on liquids. I drank Premier Protein shakes, Syntrax nectar shakes & Unjury's chicken broth. The Premier shakes have 30 grams of protein & the Syntrax Nectar shakes have 25 grams. I don't remember what the unjury broth had. I drank it to settle my stomach. I still drink 1 shake a day. Getting in your protein each day will help in losing weight, your muscles & hair loss. My favorite protein shakes are the ones made by Syntrax. You get them from The Vitamin Shoppe. You can also order them online if there aren't any of the shops in your area. My favorite flavor is vanilla Torte. If you haven't already found this Protein powder I suggest you buy the individual packages first. I now buy the powder in the large jars. Good luck with your sleeve. I'm so happy I had this done. It's still a struggle but I already feel so much better.
  15. I first read about this 5 Day Pouch Test here on Bariatric Pal. So glad I saw this. I ordered the book & downloaded it on my Kindle. I have been in a stall for almost 2 months & it has driven me crazy. One of the things this Test will do is break the carb issue. Carbs are a huge issue for me. I've read over half the book & I am starting the Test tomorrow. I saw my surgeon a couple of weeks ago & she suggested I drink nothing but Protein shakes 1 day a week to help with my stall & to break bad habits. It was after that doctor visit that I saw this information about the Test. I wish anyone trying this Test good luck. I hope everyone doing this will post their results. BTW, I got the book off Amazon. Worth every penny. It was written by a woman that had a gastric bypass a few years ago & has struggled with the same issues as the rest of us. This is a lifetime change in eating habits & we all need all of the help we can get.
  16. I've been sleeved for a year & go thru the same thing. My first stall was at 3 weeks for about4 days. I stall every 4 to 6 weeks for about 3 or 4 days. Drives me nuts. When I was allowed 800 calories after 6 or 8 weeks post of I didn't stall as much. At 6 months I was allowed 1,000 calories but I have had trouble staying under 1,200. I've been in a stall for about 6 weeks but I refuse to give up. I started reading a book by Kaye Bailey called 5 Day Pouch Test. It's really for people who are a year or more post op and I have learned some really good stuff. Hang in there, it will be worth every stall you have to deal with.
  17. Everyone is different. I've been in a stall for almost 2 months. I have had several stalls over this past year but they have only lasted 1 week. I'm going to go back to drinking Protein shakes 1 day a week & keeping a better record of what I eat. I need to drink more liquid. I hate Water so that's been a big issue & probably has something to do with my stalls. I refuse to give up!!

    Cold all the time

I'm a year post of & have had this issue since the beginning. I have seen several questions concerning this issue & have seen a lot of comments that the reason for this cold feeling is the lower amount of carbs you are consuming. I think this is true because I've noticed on days where I have consumed more carbs (bad on me) I'm not as cold.

    Water

Not getting enough water/liquids in each day has & still is an issue for me too. I hate plain water. I've never been a water drinker. I have found Crystal Light & hot tea helps. I'm a year post op & I still drink protein shakes & they count as liquid. I probably only get in half of my daily liquid requirement. I never think about carrying water with me & I am still trying to develop this habit. It requires a lot of work to get in my daily liquids. I hope you are better about this than I am. I refuse to give up.

    Getting Jiggly

The first thing that happened was getting rid of my CPAP. What a thrill that was!! Not only did I get into clothes that have been hanging in my closet for several years (I don't throw much of anything out) but I was able to pull my car seat up a couple of inches. I have also cut back on my oxygen use. I still sleep with it & use it when I drive long distances but I can actually go into a restaurant or department stores & not have to take it in with me. I keep a portable oxygen machine in my car in case I need it. YAY!!! What a difference weight loss has made.
  21. I have a digital scale to weigh most foods. I also use 4 oz storage cups to put prepared foods in so all I have to do is open the cup up & eat. I know when I'm full because I hiccup about 5 or 6 times. Then I'm OK. I try not to overeat because I feel really ill for about an hour or two. I've been sleeved for a year & it's very easy to become lazy & stop weighing/measuring food. I have not lost any weight in about 4 weeks so I have to be more careful about what I eat. I'm going to use the 5DPT (5 Day Pouch Test) to get myself back on track & get back in the habit of weighing/measuring my food. I downloaded the book onto my Kindle & it has some very good information. The author had WLS a few years ago so she knows what everyone is going thru.
  22. I am really glad this subject came up. I'm a year out & struggling - big time. I have been fighting the same 3 or 4 lbs going up & down for over a month & it's getting irritating. I'm glad some of you mentioned the 5 day pouch test. I had not heard of that before. I've been worried about "stretching" my stomach. liquids I can consume about 7 to 8 ozs & solid food it's more like about 5 or 6 ozs. If I eat to much it makes me VERY uncomfortable. When I fill up I get the hiccups but I'm hungry again in about 2 hrs. I had my 1 year checkup with my surgeon & she has happy with my progress & told me to go "fast" 1 day a week & just drink Protein shakes. Hopefully this will break my stall. Good luck everyone. Thanks for the good information.

    Okay I need some reassurance

I had a stall every 3 or 4 weeks. Now I'm a year out & haven't lost anything since late March. I had a doctor's appt. this past week & she was very happy with my progress so I'm not going to drive myself crazy. I just have to be more careful of what I eat & try & exercise more. Even tho' the weight loss has been slow I'm so happy I had the surgery. My knees don't hurt much now. I moved into a second floor apartment so I would be forced to get some sort of exercise & it has helped. The most positive thing that has happened is not having to wear that stupid CPAP contraption anymore!! Yay!!! Even my oxygen useage is down considerably. I can even go into a restaurant & not have to drag the oxygen tank with me. I still carry the oxygen in my car & wear it when I'm driving. Believe me, it will get better & so worth it. Best of luck with your journey.
  24. I'm 70 & just got my surgery date of 5/12/14. I'm glad to read posts by other 70+ sleeve patients. My family is concerned about my age & having this surgery. Hopefully this will make them feel better that others my age have done this. My goal is to get off the CPAP at night & the oxygen 24/7. I have other health issues that should go away also. Just the idea of taking fewer pills each day is a plus.
  25. I had an issue with nausea also for about 2 weeks. I wasn't allowed to eat chicken noodle Soup & the broth stuff in a can or carton really is awful. I bought Unjury's chicken soup. It really helped & I got in my Protein too. Everything gets better & I'm so glad I had this surgery. Good luck with your journey.
