Haven't been here in a loooong time! But I'm a year out and I'm having problems losing :(
maxcimax replied to laurenella82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad to see this posting. I have actually gained back 25 lbs over the last 10 months or so. It's my fault because I have taken up "grazing" at night. Not a good thing. I also got back into cake decorating & I love frosting. I think I finally got this back under control in the last few days. I'm starting over with the liquid diet then soft foods. I don't think I've stretched my stomach because I don't eat much each time. The grazing is my big enemy. I stopped using my Bariactric Pal & stopped logging in my food. I'm trying to get back in that habit again. I have no one to blame but myself & I need to work harder on me. I live alone so I can't blame it on anyone else. But, one day at a time. I would still do the surgery again. Good luck everyone. Onward & downward!! -
How can I take 70g of protein a Day HELP!
maxcimax replied to leonelbreton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink the Premier Protein shakes also. If you go to Bariatric Choice, they sell a jello & hot chocolate that both have about 15g per serving. I love jello & hot chocolate. I will say, if you use the jello, I make it according to the package but add about 1/2 cup of ice after I mix the hot water & jello mix. This is supposed to be one serving but I find it's more than I can eat at one time. I cut the serving in half & eat it in two servings. Love this stuff. -
CPAP, Dry Throat, Dry Mouth Post Op
maxcimax replied to Amelie2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a CPAP also but I had to have oxygen hooked up to it as well. After loosing about 70lbs I was able to get rid of the CPAP. What a blessing. I still have to use oxygen 24/7 & that will never go away. I am one of the 6% of people who actually ended up with COPD because of second-hand smoke. I have never smoked in my life. With the weight loss I have been able to do some things without being attached to oxygen. It also will dry out my nose but that is a minor issue. I hope you too will be able to get rid of the CPAP. -
Any other 'oldies' out there?
maxcimax replied to Cathy48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved almost 2 years ago at the age of 70. I no longer have to use a CPAP & I use less oxygen. Because of a lung condition I will never be able to get off oxygen no matter how much weight I loose. I feel so much better. My cardiologist & my pulmonologist both had to sign off on my sleeve surgery. I came thru the surgery just fine. One of the smartest things I have ever done. -
How many vitamins do you take?
maxcimax replied to Melanie28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a multi vitamin that I buy from The Vitamin Shop. It is a vitamin that is made for gastric surgeries. I also take a B-12 twice a week & chewable calcium I get from Amazon. I'm almost 2 years post op and my doctor is happy with my blood tests. -
Not So Supportive Support Group
maxcimax replied to virgorooster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the Sleeve almost 2 years ago & it's been a struggle but worth it. My surgeon & her partner won't do the lap band because of the low percentage of success. My cousin & a friend had the lap band & both have gained all the weight back plus some more. Our support group is run by the psychologist that I had to talk to before my surgery. This is a requirement by my doctor. BTW, if your Mom's band no longer works she should look into a revision. I was 70 when I had my surgery. I no longer use a CPAP & my oxygen use has decreased. Yay!! -
The military is not crazy about different kinds of surgeries. The Navy wouldn't take my son because he had his spleen removed when he was in high school due to a genetic blood disorder in my family. You just need to ask a recruiter if you can join with WLS. The Army is more lenient in what they accept than the Navy. Good luck in your pursuit.

What a jerk. I don't know where you live but here in the Dallas area there are WLS support groups. I find the one I go to very helpful. Hang in there. This is not an easy way to loose weight. I find carbs are an issue for me.

I think the biggest difference when it comes to weight loss is with the Bypass surgery you lose faster.

Major complications--sleeved 12/21
maxcimax replied to amandasue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm blessed because I have not had any problems. My surgery has been very good. I hope you get well quick & the rest of your journey is good & successful. -
I need advice from Post-Sleevers
maxcimax replied to curlychic32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain in both of my knees that was so awful my orthopedic doctor gave me steroid injections. I have arthritis in my knees & hands. I've lost so much weight that my knees no longer hurt & I no longer use a CPAP. Good luck with your surgery. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made. -
I use the Syntrax Nectar. My favorite is the Vanilla Bean. I put frozen fruit in it & sometimes I add a little yogurt. I also mix it with Silk milk. I can't stand it with water. Everyone's taste is different. I've tried stuff other people liked & I couldn't tolerate it. I also like the chocolate & strawberry Premier Protein shakes.

First meal out since surgery
maxcimax replied to GibbsGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are already looking at your options & that is a good thing. Knowing ahead of time what you will order will make eating out much easier. I would stay away from buffets. Good luck with your dinner. -
@Mom26 - send prayers her way (for her son)
maxcimax replied to jane13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You certainly have my prayers. We just had this happen in our family too. It's stage 4 & terminal colon & liver cancer. I will pray for your son & Bill also. I will also ask my Bible study group to include your son in our prayers. My daughter came thru tyroid cancer & a friend of ours was stage 4 breast cancer & survived. There is always hope & I believe in the power of prayers. -
My preference is making my own using Syntrax Nectur w/ yogurt and/or frozen fruit & Silk milk. I keep Premier Protein shakes in my refrigerator so if I'm in a hurry I can just grab one & go. I order Premier Protein from their website. You can get a pack of 18 which you can't get from Costco. I get my Syntrax Nectur from Amazon or The Vitamin Shoppe.

I have lost a lot of weight so far & I was able to get rid of my CPAP completely. I still have to use oxygen when I sleep but that's easy compared with the CPAP & the oxygen tube running in it. I will always be on oxygen when I sleep but I have even been able to take it off when I'm watching TV or doing something that doesn't require a lot of exertion. I have COPD (never smoked a day in my life!!) thanks to second hand smoke & that's not curable. I hope the rest of you will be able to get rid of their CPAPs. Your face will appreciate it. LOL

Where to buy vitamins?
maxcimax replied to nyjocool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get my multi Vitamins from The Vitamin Shoppe. They are specifically made for bariatric patients & they don't cost a fortune. I buy my B12 from Walmart & I get my Calcium chewables from Amazon or Bariatric Advantage. I don't take extra Iron or Vitamin C & my tests have all been normal. I was sleeved over a year ago & have not had any problems. Good luck with your surgery. -
I hurt the restaurants feeling...
maxcimax replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm very open about my sleeve. You would be amazed at how helpful waitstaff can be with suggestions on what to eat. I've only had positive responses. A lot of waitstaff are already aware of bariatric surgeries & some know people who have had this surgery. -
MEGA Stall - Need some tips to break it
maxcimax replied to MommyMeghan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm glad you posted this. I'm 15 months pre op & I've been stalled for about 3 months!! I'm starting today with the pre op diet. My doctor suggested I do this. I hope this works. I watch my carbs but it's hard to stay under 60 a day. My calorie count is about 1300. I think I need to lower that a bit too. I hope going back on the pre op diet will help. I hope you find your answer too. -
Have you added a medical bracelet to your life
maxcimax replied to lmm300missouri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have worn a medical ID bracelet for about 2 years because I take a blood thinner & allergic to penicilian. I got my bracelet from Amazon. It is a silver expansion bracelet & I can add to it. They now have a link that says "sleeve" on it & I need to get it. I love this bracelet. -
I sip water at a meal. Even then it's probably only 4 or 5 sips. And the guy at the next table? If he's overweight (even just a little bit) tell him you have had bariatric surgery & he might give it a try! I know, I have a totally warped sense of humor. I am upfront with telling people I have a sleeve & I've haven't had any ugly comments. Eveyone has been supportive & even curious. I give them my surgeon's number if they need it.

Cold more often ?
maxcimax replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issue & I'm 15 months post op. I read a post on here that because our carb intake is low (or supposed to be) we have a tendency to get cold. I think there is some truth to that & the issue of our layer of fat is probably right too. How's that for a double whammy? I live in Texas & am glad I am on the cold side. I hate the heat. I keep a light jacket or sweater in my car in case I get cold. -
Important Question
maxcimax replied to Kym Preslar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I have lost 85 lbs & everyone who sees an old picture say I look younger & I'm 71. Good genes i guess. -
excess skin do they remove?
maxcimax replied to stuartz56's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will have this done after I lose all of my weight. They won't do surgery until you lose all of your weight anyway. I know someone that had her excess skin on her stomach removed (19 lbs worth) & she said to take pictures to document your rash. Also, if your primary care doctor gives you a perscription for the rash be sure & save the paperwork for the perscription. Just be aware that this is not an easy operation. It takes a bit to recover & is painful. No walking up stairs either. I'm not looking forward to the pain but it will heal & be all better in no time. -
Protein Shakes - milk or water?
maxcimax replied to Beachsprite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried water & it tasted terrible to me. I'm not a water drinker (thank goodness for Crystal Light) so I use soy milk that's unsweetened w/vanilla. I haven't tried the Fair Life.
