I couldn't wait to have an egg. I had the first one poached but really didn't like it & I have always loved poached eggs. The next time I had scrambled with a tiny bit of cheddar cheese & it was wonderful. No issues with the egg/cheese. The last time I had an egg I had goat cheese with it. OMG that was fantastic!!

Sleeve date : 7/8/2014
maxcimax replied to NicaraguanGyal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having the tube down your throat must be a doctor preference. I had my Sleeve at Baylor-Plano here in Texas & my surgeon did not put a tube down my throat. I am on oxygen & use a CPAP at night so my surgeon warned that I might have a breathing tube when I woke up. Lucky me, no tube! I think I would ask my surgeon why the tube is used. Good luck with your surgery. I'm so glad I did this. I had surgery May 12th & I feel better already even tho' I've only lost 28lbs. -
I got Sleeved on May 12th as well. I am very happy I did this. I already knew that with a Sleeve the weight loss isn't as fast as with the Band or By-pass. That's OK with me. It gives my skin time to adjust. I didn't have any nausea & almost no pain. I started this process at 294 lbs & I'm down to 269. What I have really noticed is the difference in my clothes!! I need to stop weighing myself every day & I should measure myself. I didn't & wish I had done this. I've already given away my 3x size shirts. Yay!! I can wear my 2x shirts without the buttons being stretched. LOL. I would do this again. BTW, when I had my 2 weeks pre op diet I couldn't drink another Premier Protein shake - chocolate. I ordered their strawberry shake & love it. I also bought Protein powder from nectar & unjury. Really like both. The Unjury chicken broth is good. Also, I put 1% milk in the powder shakes. Using Water made me gag. It will increase your calorie count but I can have 800 calories a day so that's not an issue. The milk will add protein also. I tried the Isopure flavored water. It was so bad I had to pour it out. It totally turned my stomach over. Some people love this stuff. If you buy it I would only get 1 bottle to see how your stomach tolerates it. I bought 3 ($4 each) & couldn't stomach any of those flavors. I have also found that when my instructions say THINNED for pureed/soft foods then you should thin it. I tried avocado all mashed up & should have thinned it. My stomach felt so overloaded that it made me feel really rotten for about 3 hours. I thin everything now!! Well, except scrambled eggs. The Unjury brand you get on-line & the Nectar brand you can get at The Vitamin Store or on-line. I get my multi Vitamins & Calcium chewable from there also. They also carry a liquid vitamin & calcium but it's a lot more expensive than the chewables. The Vitamin Store has a lot of the products you need for any of the Bariatric surgeries. They sell individual servings of Nectar so you can try different flavors before you buy a large container. My new motto - Onward & Downward. Good luck with your Sleeve everyone.

Did you lose tons of inches first?
maxcimax replied to cushy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have noticed the inches coming off too. I haven't lost any weight in 3 days but I have lost 28 lbs since I started the pre-op diet, Sleeved on May 12th & then the post-op diet. My pants (2x & 24s) fit better but my shirts (3x) have all gotten to big. My bras fit better too. The biggest thing I noticed was the distance between my stomach & my car steering wheel. Before there was about 1/2" of space but now there is about 2" of space. I keep trying on some smaller shirts but I'm not quite there yet. Maybe tomorrow. I still need to arrange my closet according to size. I saw someone say to do this & I think it's a great idea. -
I officially HATE protein shakes!
maxcimax replied to yolicious1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was OK with the shakes pre-op also but when I came home my stomach would just "turn over" thinking about it. I have found the brand Nectar very good & I mix it with 1% skim milk. Using water for any of the powders is awful. I just ordered the unflavored Nectar from Amazon because the comments were all positive. You can put this protein powder in soups & the comments said that it makes the soup creamier. Looking forward to trying this. As of this past Wednesday I can now eat pureed/soft foods. May sure you thin your food down a bit. I tried avocado & it was to heavy & it overwhelmed my stomach. Won't do that again!! I poured a tiny bit of skim milk in about 2 ozs of cottage cheese & really enjoyed that!! Each of us is different so it's trial & error in figuring out what we can/can't eat. Good luck everyone. I so happy I did this. -
Joining the Military post-OP?
maxcimax replied to ahjohnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What branch of the service are you trying to get into? Each branch of the Military has it's own restrictions. The Navy & Air Force are harder to get into because they have more health restrictions. The Army is the easiest. I have a son that doesn't have a spleen & the Navy wouldn't take him for that reason even tho' he is healthy. I hope you get what you want. I grew up in a military (Navy) family & was married to a Seabee (Navy). God Bless you for wanting to do this. -
Which Multi-Vitamins are everyone taking?
maxcimax replied to VegasGuitarGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get my multi vitamins & calcium from The Vitamin Shop. They were recommended to me by someone who had the sleeve 3 yrs. ago. You can also get these in a liquid form but much more expensive. -
Saw my surgeon today for my first post op visit. Down 25 lbs since starting this whole thing in January. Sleeve surgery was done 5/12/14 & I weighted 284 on that day. I was told I could now have soft/pureed foods. I made the mistake of not THINNING my avocado. Wasn't a good thing. For the first time I felt really awful. I drank water to try & make the food go thru my stomach faster but I have no idea if this worked. I felt so awful that I took a nap & got up felling a lot better. Believe me, all foods will be thinned for a while. I have had very little in the way of nausea but this came close. Would I do this again? Absolutely. I'm very happy with my progress & so was my surgeon. Onward & downward.

20 lbs lost 4 days post-op!?!
maxcimax replied to yasmineSF's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My weight loss has been weird. I weight 297 in January at my first doctor visit. In April I saw my surgeon again and weighed 294. I started my pre-op diet May 1st & got down to 284 the day of surgery. After 3 days in the hospital I weighed myself when I got home and was back up to 294. Imagine my shock! I lost that 10 lbs in about 2 days. I assume part of the issue was the gas they fill you up with for the surgery. I am now 2 weeks post-op & I'm down to 270. Slow going but worth it. I am on oxygen so walking around outside is an issue. I started walking around my apartment for exercise. Tomorrow I see my surgeon for my 1st post-op visit. Hopefully I can put soft foods in my diet. The protein shakes are about to do me in. I'm going to get some protein that is unflavored. This should help my protein intake. I'm glad I had this done. I don't think I will ever regret it. The crazy thing is I don't even miss eating chocolate or bread. -
Thank goodness for these remarks by everyone. I had my surgery on 5/12/14 and came home 10 lbs heavier than when I went into surgery. I have since lost all of that plus some. I'm down 21 lbs. from when I started this whole thing. Yay!! I would do this again. Looking forward to losing more pounds. I just need to stop weighing every single day. I'm addicted to my scale.

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
maxcimax replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been on oxygen for just over 2 years & a CPAP for about 18 months. I don't want to be on this stuff for the rest of my life (I'm 70). My pulmonologist & cardiologist have been after me to lose weight. Both are very happy I made this decision to have the Sleeve. My cousin had a Band about 4 years ago & she suggested the Sleeve instead of the Band. I'm so glad I made this decision. I had the surgery on May 12th & already have lost 21 lbs & feel so much better. Hard to believe 21 lbs would make that much difference. I only have 130 lbs to go. One day at a time! -
After reading all of these comments it just shows how different each surgeon treats the pre & post op diet. I had surgery on 5/12/14 & right from the beginning I had to drink 60+ grams of Protein a day. I'm having trouble doing that but I got up to 50 gms yesterday. I'm still trying to drink enough liquids to reach 60 ozs . So far I feel really well. Little pain & no nausea. I'm so glad I did this & I hope everyone else feels the same. It will be worth it. After the surgery it's such a life altering experience & takes a great deal off attention to these changes. It took a week before I starting feeling better. BTW - don't overfill your stomach. I did this yesterday & it took a couple of yours before I started feeling like I wasn't bloated. Talk about a learning curse!

Any May 20th surgeries out there?
maxcimax replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had my surgery on 5/12/14 so I want to wish everyone good luck on their upcoming surgery. You won't regret it!! I had very little pain & no nausea. I have a great surgeon with very specific instructions & I have followed her guidelines to the letter. She required 2 weeks before & 2 to 3 weeks after of clear liquids. I can't wait to get to the soft foods but I know that following her advice I won't have a leaking stomach & I will heal correctly. So far I'm down 22 lbs & already feel better. Trust me, it will be worth every painful moment to lose this baggage. Good luck to everyone. -
I'm 70 & decided to have the Sleeve. I'm on oxygen & a CPAP. I'm hoping I will be able to get rid of the CPAP but not sure about the oxygen. I have COPD because I grew up around smokers. I've never smoked a day in my life. But, like most overweight people (about 150#) I have a lot of pain & hate to go anywhere. I was wondering if there are any "old" people out there who have had the surgery & how you are doing with it. My cardiologist/internist has had other patients that have had this surgery & have done very well with it. I don't have my surgery date yet. Hopefully I will have a date this week or next.

Got my first unexpected, "but why don't you just diet?" lecture today
maxcimax replied to roundisashape's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love these comments. I haven't had anyone tell me that the surgery is the "easy way out". How would they know anyway? Your friend that is now a size 4 - I wonder if she will be a size 4 in a year or two. I've been everything from size 11 to size 24 (currently). I'm 70 & doing this. I would like to be healthy & pain free the rest of my life!! I think you will get the last laugh in the end. -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
maxcimax replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Being put on a CPAP & being tied to an oxygen tank 24/7. I haven't been shopping in a mall for about 2 years because it's to difficult to walk around. I just turned 70 & I don't want to spend the rest of my life struggling to just walk. My cardiologist has other patients that have had the Sleeve & they have had good results. -
DFW TX Surgeon selection? (Dallas / Ft. Worth)
maxcimax replied to Better than dead's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I called Dr Nicholson but they don't take medicare. His office had me call Dr. Colleen Kennedy at Baylor Plano. She has a partner, Dr. Julie Kilgore who is going to do my surgery. They do not do the lap-band & I'm having the Sleeve done. I really like Dr. Kilgore & can't say enough good things about her, Baylor Plano, & all of the office people I've had to deal with. So far it's been a very good experience. Dr Kennedy & Dr Kilgore have an office in Rockwall & somewhere else. Good luck in your search.
