I too had a gout flare up 4 days after surgery. I had my first gout attack 4 years ago with a uric acid level of 11.3. The gout was in my left wrist & left ankle & put me in bed or 2 weeks. As a result I don't skip my medicine except for this surery I take 400 mg of Allopurinol & 0.6 mg of Colcrys daily. I was off my meds for 3 days because of surgery. I crush all of my pills & stir them up in Apple or orange juice. Tastes awful but it beats having gout.

When can I start working out after pos sleeve
maxcimax replied to Tubby1234's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I started walking a treadmill a week after surgery. I just had my 6 week checkup & I can now do some weights. Surgeons are different in what they allow. In my case I'm 70 yrs old & on oxygen. My goal is to get rid of the CPAP at night & hopefully the oxygen, eventually. Exercise will help me achieve this goal. -
You will be so happy you did this. I gave my daughter-in-law 2 shirts that are to big for me already. I had very little pain, no nausea, & came home from the hospital & slept on my side the first night. I'm still learning what & how much I can eat. I had my surgery on May 12th. So far so good. Don't let anxiety get the better of you. Positive thoughts will give you positive results. I wish you all the best in letting that thin person inside of you out.

I had an IUD years ago & hopefully they are better than they used to be. I had it for a year & it left me with blood clot issues each month. I never got over them until menopause. Sorry about TMI.

I don't have a schedule for eating. When my tummy tells me I'm hungry I eat something very small. I try to put 2 hrs in between meals. I also keep a food diary & it helps me to stay honest & keep track of calories & Protein. I have also learned not to eat more than 1/2 cup at one time. Talk about a miserable feeling!

Where did you get this? I'm chewing up one that I hate. They told me not to eat the gummy type vitamins. That was disappointing since I like them.

Trial and Error over need advice
maxcimax replied to rbedinghaus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't stand to drink the Premier Protein after surgery but (I'm 6 weeks post of as of today) I can now tolerate them again. I found that the unjury chicken Soup Protein Drink (powder) is very good (just needs a bit of salt) & settled my stomach. The other protein drink powder is Syntrax nectar. I get it at The Vitamin Store & you can get it online. They sell that in individual serving sizes so you can try them & see what you like. The vanilla Torte is so good. My favorite. Also, I see the Isopur drink that has 40 gms of protein being talked about. I bought 3 (different flavors) & ended up pouring them out. Most disgusting thing I have tried. My taste buds totally rejected this stuff. Also, if you figure the 20 oz bottle this comes in & break it down to a 10 oz size, the protein amount is only 20 gms. That's less than other Protein drinks. I drink a Protein shake every morning when I get up & that starts me on a good day with getting my protein in. I'm still having trouble getting in my Water, even with Crystal Lite in it. -
Post Op internal hemorrhoids...
maxcimax replied to makinchanges's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hiatal hernia repaired also but haven't had any issues. I'm 6 weeks post op today & still on soft/pureed foods but hopefully when I see my doctor on Wednesday she will let me go on solid foods. I never thought about the hernia being the reason my doctor had me on soft/pureed foods for 4 weeks until I read your post. I was wondering why other doctors allowed their patients to go onto solid foods sooner than me. Thanks for the info. Glad everything turned out OK for you. It's only going to get better. -
June 8th - 14th : What Phase are you in Today?
maxcimax replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It amazes me how different each doctor treats each phase of this journey we are on. I'm now 6 weeks post op as of today. I see my surgeon on Wednesday & at that time I hope she puts me on solid foods. Right now I am on soft/pureed foods & have been since I saw her a month ago. I occasionally will "cheat" & have something more solid like a tiny piece of well steamed chicken &, as they say, chew, chew, chew. I have not had any issues with this but I don't make a habit of it. I'm more afraid of messing up my stomach which apparently is still healing. Even the NUTs have different ideas on when you can eat what. The one thing that seems true with all of us is that our new tummy's can only tolerate about 3 oz of food at a time. If you overeat you will be really really miserable for a couple of hours. I have learned to weigh & measure everything just to keep from overeating. No matter what, I'm still glad I did this. -
Yes it is. I have made out much better writing down what I eat. I just write my intake in a small spiral notebook. I keep track of Protein grams, calories, carbs & portion size along with a description of the food. I can't tell you how much this has helped. No matter what you eat be sure to write it down. I discovered I wasn't getting my 800 calories in. That wasn't a good thing. If I'm short on protein or calorie intake by the end of the day I eat something that will bring me up to the level I need to be at. Good luck. This is such a crazy & learning journey. I think, for me, this surgery was the right thing to do.

Pain when eating 5 mths post op
maxcimax replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I overeat I get extremely uncomfortable & it takes a couple of hours to go away. Fortunately it hasn't been painful. I started MEASURING everything I eat & that has pretty much eliminated the "over full" feeling. I'm 6 weeks post op tomorrow & I'm still learning stuff. Hope you feel better & figure out what the issue is with your pain. We all have lots of bad habits to get rid of when it comes to eating. Slowing down my eating & also drinking 64 oz of Fluid have been my hardest issues to deal with. -
Have you seen the "7 Bites" Show on YouTube? - Dedicated Sleeve Talk Show!
maxcimax replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only watched the first episode & wished I had seen this 6 weeks ago when I had surgery. I will subscribe to this program & finish watching the other episodes. Useful information. -
Dizzy and nauseous some days - 5 weeks out
maxcimax replied to fat_free's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have trouble getting my 64 oz of liquid each day too. I thought I would try the Isopur 20 oz flavored liquid. I found that it was disgusting & poured out the 3 bottles I bought. If you buy any of this stuff only buy 1 bottle to see if your taste buds will tolerate this drink. I am 5 weeks post op too & haven't had any issues with headaches or dizziness. Also, the best protein powders I have found are made by Unjury & Syntrax Nectar. The Nectar can be bought by single serving packages at The Vitamin Store or online. Also, I use soy milk to mix my protein powder in. My taste buds don't like it mixed with water. Hope this helps. -
I didn't come home with any antibiotics but my biggest incision opened up so my doctor put me on one for 10 days. In my case, I do not fight infection very well since I don't have a spleen. Usually my infections are lung related. My incision is still oozing a bit but isn't all red around the edges. I'm 5 weeks post op (6 weeks this Monday) & will see my doctor this coming Wednesday. At that time I will find out how long it takes for this incision to close up. All the other incisions are healed. I had to have a hiatal hernia fixed & they had to cut thru a bunch of scar tissue from my spleen surgery 50 yrs ago. This might be why my incision is about 1 1/2 inches long & taking a while to heal. I have had almost no pain & never vomited so I feel very fortunate. I'm so glad I had this done. Looking forward to being cleared for solid food this week. I'm not sure what my doctor's thoughts are for solid food at 6 weeks post op. I've tolerated everything I have eaten so far & I have had little pieces of tuna & chicken a couple of times. I just chewed it up really well & it went down just fine. Water is still an issue. I'm working on it tho'. Protein I get in daily between 50 & 60 so I need to work harder on that too. Being able to eat chicken & fish will help this a great deal & hopefully will help my incision heal more quickly. Hopefully no more antibiotics. They have a tendency to upset my stomach.

I will be 6 weeks post op on Monday & I have 1/2 of a Premier Protein shake every morning. Unfortunately I can only drink 1/2 of one because they are 11 oz & my new tummy won't hold any more. I drink the other 1/2 sometime during the day so I'm at least getting 30 gm of protein from that. At the end of the day if my protein grams aren't up to 60 I will drink another shake or Unjury's chicken Soup or a small shake from unjury or Syntrac nectar to bring my gram count up. I see my doctor next week & hopefully I will be able to eat "real" food such as chicken & fish. This should help with my protein grams. I know someone who had the sleeve surgery 3 years ago & she still drinks 2 or 3 shakes a day. She said it has made a difference in her skin elasticity. She looks really good so maybe she's on to something. I hope this helps with your question.

New Whey Liquid Protein - Post-Op Use & Beyond
maxcimax replied to HaddocksEyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried the Acai Berry & it was awful. I still have a Watermelon to try. My stomach totally rejected this stuff. I'm sticking with the Syntrax Nectar brand. My stomach tolerates it better than anything. I drink 1/2 of Strawberry Premium Protein first thing in the morning but I can only drink half a container (11oz) over an hour period. After I use all of this up I'm not buying anymore. Container is to large to consume at one sitting. -
4 weeks out- watermelon ok?
maxcimax replied to MayDaisy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering the same thing. I'm 5 weeks post op & see my surgeon next week. Hopefully I can then eat solid foods. I'm really wanting watermelon. I hope someone answers this question. -
Ninja Ultima, Ninja Mega Kitchen or NurtiBullet?
maxcimax replied to erlo54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a NutriBullet & sold it to a friend of mine. I really didn't care for it & it leaked. I ended up buying the Ninja & love it. I got it on either HSN or QVC but you can get them in stores. I bought the $45 one & it comes with 1 large mixing container (about 43 ozs) with it's own blades & 2 small (16 oz size) comtainers with their own blade. What I like is that the blades are not just on the bottom but the large blade has 3 levels & the small blade has 2 levels of blades. Check this one out. There is no sense in spending over $100 for something if you are just using it for smoothies, Soups, etc. This little Ninja does other things such as chop so it's pretty versatile. I think you will like this product. It cleans up easy also. BTW - the blades are extremely sharp so be very careful. Ninja has put warnings everywhere concerning the blades. I take a blood thinner so I am extra careful around sharp objects. I hope you find what you are looking for & I wish you much success with your Sleeve. -
6 weeks post op-What size meals are people eating?
maxcimax replied to onajournee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks post op & I haven't been on a particular schedule for eating. Probably not a good thing. I still can only consume about 3 ozs of food comfortably. I have found that any more than that will make me feel ill & it takes a couple of hours for that over full feeling to go away. It's not worth over eating no matter how hungry you feel. My tummy lets me know when I have had enough. It isn't the normal full feeling you had before surgery. In my case it's a slight ache in the top of my stomach. It's better to let your sink finish the rest of your meal. Let your tummy dictate the size of your meals. -
Cant get down enough fluids and scared
maxcimax replied to Kat619's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not good at getting in all of my liquids either but I haven't had any issues except constipation. I took the Wild Cherry flavor Milk of Magnesia & that worked very well. I do use the sugar free popsicles too. I really hate water & these help a lot. My stomach revolted at the Crystal lite at the beginning but I need to see if I can now tolerate it. Remember that fluid intake includes your protein drinks & soups. Good luck. You will be happy you did this. I am & I'm only 5 weeks post op. -
BM dance... Similar to a rain dance.
maxcimax replied to Shiner86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this problem too & Milk of Magnesia has a Wild Cherry flavor that I used. It was really good & it worked. I only took 2 tablespoons but I had only had an issue for 3 days not 6. Be careful tho'. If you don't have a BM you will end up with what they call an "impaction" (sp?) & that will require a trip to the ER. Hope this issue resolves itself for you very quickly. -
Does anyone know how many carbs are allowed each day? I was sleeved on May 12th & have lost 28 lbs. I haven't lost anything for a week but I know that's not unusual so I'm not worried. I looked thru all of my info couldn't find anything concerning carb count. I have had trouble getting in my 800 calories but have done well with my Protein. I think I need to track carbs as well. Hope everyone is doing well with their sleeve.

4 wks post surgery, gaining weight and panicking
maxcimax replied to Happygoomom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate to tell you this, but your doctor is wrong. I will be post op 5 weeks this coming Monday. I stalled for 6 days after 2 weeks. I'm more concerned that your doctor doesn't seem to be very supportive. My experience with my doctor is very different. She has been absolutely fantastic. Hang in there. I think you will be surprised when all of a sudden you will drop in weight. Don't weigh everyday. I only weigh on Mondays. Get in a support group if you have one locally. We have a very good one here in Dallas at Baylor-Plano Medical Center. Also, keep reading the comments here on BariatricPal. I've learned so much from others. Also, ask your NUT about this. Best of luck to you. -
