    Wedding Dress Shopping

My daughter bought her wedding dress at David's & she lost more weight than she thought she would. As a result her dress was to big. David's made the necessary alterations & she looked wonderful. Dresses can always be altered down 1 or 2 sizes but you can't go up. Find the dress you want & ask about alterations. Happy wedding!
  2. I didn't say much to anyone before surgery because I didn't want to hear any negative crap that people only heard about. I did a lot of research before I decided on surgery. Now I tell everyone & have had great support. We need all the support we can get. You will take a lot of stress off yourself if you just tell someone about your sleeve when they ask. You don't have to tell anyone unless they ask. Good luck with your friend & dinner. Enjoy.
  3. I take 3 or 4 pills 3 times a day. I have found if I mash them up really well I can pour the powder into about 1/2 oz of Apple juice or other juice & quickly drink it. Then I quickly drink more juice to wash the yucky taste down. My gout meds & blood thinner aren't so bad. The 2 heart meds are very bitter. For me it's the thought of downing the meds that makes me want to throw up. Some people put their crushed meds in yogurt or Apple sauce. I haven't tried that yet. I do have a pill crushed & it makes the pills powdery. Good luck with your pills.
  4. My cousin has the band & some complications. She recommended the Sleeve. Glad she did. Being about 150# overweight has brought on issues I hope to get rid of. CPAP, oxygen 24/7, heart issues, high collesterol & triglyserides. I think making sure you have a good surgeon is key to success.

    Calories

My surgeon had me on up to 800/day until I was on solid food. Then my calorie intake was increased to 1,000. I have to be careful of my carb count. Try to stay under 50 carbs/day. I keep a food diary & this has helped. And my proteins are 60+/day. I found to many carbs slows down my weight loss. Good luck with your journey.
  6. I have not had any Protein bars yet but I should be able to have them now. I'm 6 weeks post op & would like to try some bars. Any suggestions as to what is good & what's not so good. I'd hate to spend a bunch of money to only end up with a nasty tasting Protein Bar. Thanks so much for everyone's comments.

    NutriBullet?

I had a NutriBullet & sold it to a friend of mine & bought the Ninja for $45. It came with 2 sizes of containers - 16 oz & 43 oz. I like the Ninja better because of the multi level for the blades. I guess it's really what you want to do with it. The NutriBullet leaked & drove me crazy. I chopped up eggs for egg salad in the Ninja & was surprised at how nice the eggs came out. I'm glad I made the trade.
  8. I don't know if you keep a food diary but you should if you don't. It has helped me a great deal. First - your carb intake is way to high. I have set my intake to 50 carbs/day. On days when I went crazy eating stuff with lots of carbs my intake would be 80+. It didn't take me long to figure out that was what was causing my stalls. I corrected that & the weight started coming down again. Also, I think your calorie intake is to much. The first 6 weeks I was allowed 800. At my 6 week appt. my surgeon had me bring my calorie intake up to 1,000. I think 1,200 calories/day will be all I will ever be able to have. Also, what does your surgeon say? If you try those 2 decreases in carbs & calories maybe the weight will come off a bit faster. Everything else looks like what I've been told by my surgeon. I know other people will add their experiences to this. Hope all the information you get will help you. Best of luck to you in your journey. Never give up.
  9. I gained 2 lbs at 5 weeks & was in a stall that lasted just over a week. I'm now at 8 weeks & the 2 lbs has come off along with 2 more lbs. I keep a food diary & realized that when I was able to increase my calorie intake to 1,000 it also increased my carbs. I was getting around 80 carbs on most days. I cut back the carbs to under 50 & I started losing weight again. I think carbs are my worst enemy. I also weigh & measure everything. I have found if I just "think" I have the correct amount of food I will over eat & this isn't helpful. Makes me feel like crap. It takes about an hour to get over that feeling.

    Hiatal Hernia repair

I had surgery 5/12/14 for the sleeve & to fix a good size hiatal hernia. I did not have any issues with the surgery. Very little pain & no gas. I consider myself very fortunate. I am 8 weeks post op & just noticed that my voice isn't raspy anymore. This was from the hernia. I also breathe better because the hernia pushed up against my lungs. I'm still on a CPAP & oxygen 24/7. I hope that all changes with the weight loss. Good luck with your surgery. If you do what your surgeon & NUT tell you to do you will do fine. I'm amazed at the different instructions given to people. I have such a good surgeon & I'm very happy I chose to do this. I still have issues with fluids but I see a lot of people do.
  11. Who makes a 32 oz shake? I drink a Premier Protein shake first thing in the morning while I'm checking email & reading the news. Those are 11 oz & it's all I can do to get that down in an hour or less. I can't imagine a 32 oz shake.

    Eating out card ?

I do not have a card concerning my bariatric sleeve procedure. I just simply tell the wait staff that I have had this surgery & may I select food from the kids menu. I have never had anyone say no. I had one restaurant bring me a tiny bowl of Soup & I wasn't even charged for it. I mostly eat at restaurants where they know me & they always ask how I'm doing. I will get an extra plate & eat from my boyfriends food or will order from the side dish part of the menu. The kids menu is still a lot of food & I usually bring home half of that! I'm one of those people that doesn't care if people know I have had this surgery. I've been amazed at the people who know others who have had some sort of bariatric surgery & I like hearing how those people have done. I get a lot of encouragement from some unexpected places. Let's face it - we need all the encouragement we can get.

    Skipping Ahead

I pretty much stuck to my surgeon's instructions. When I was on pureed foods I did try some tuna & chicken chunks. I made sure I chewed them up really well & didn't have any problems. When you look at what people are saying about what they can & can't eat & at what stage I find it perplexing the differences in everyone's diets. I did buy the "Big Book of Gastric Sleeve Surgery" & it was a little different than my surgeon's stages. You can download chapters of this book from this website & you might find this helpful. I did.

    Can I make goal?

You do have a lot on your plate. I'm sorry about your Mom. I've lost mine too. Just remember the goods things about her. Also, take one day at a time & remember the good things that will come when you & your husband graduate & life will be a lot smoother. Good luck with school & with your weight loss journey.
  15. Glad to see this Stall Talk location is such a hit. I'm 7 weeks post op & had a short stall at 3 weeks. At 5 weeks I stalled for a week & gained 2 pounds. That's when I changed my carb intake. I try to stay under 50 but that's not always possible. I have now lost the 2 pounds so I'm hoping the weight keeps coming off. I am now allowed 1000 calories/day but it's hard to get that many calories in & keep the carbs down. I probably average around 800 calories. I also get in 60 grams of protein per day. If I'm behind in my grams I will drink a protein shake of some kind. At the end of the day I like Unjury's chicken broth. Almost like having a cup of tea before bedtime. LOL

    Protein bars

Thanks for all the comments on protein bars. I went with the Quest bars. I ordered a box of mixed flavors. Looking forward to another way of getting in my protein.

    Pre op surg and constipation

I didn't have this issue pre-op because I took a stool softener. Post-op is a different issue. I couldn't take stool softener pills so I bought milk of magnesia in black cherry flavor. You can actually stand this flavor. I've had to use it twice & then I only took 2 tablespoons.
  18. I think this is an excellent idea. Stalls are an issue for everyone & it's always interesting to see how other people deal with their stall. I stalled & if I hadn't seen the issue about carbs I would not have known to cut back on them.

    8 weeks and 40 pounds

Great loss for you. I'm 1 week behind you. My surgery was 5/12/14. I too stalled for over a week until I finally figured out I was eating WAY to many carbs. At my 6 week appt. my surgeon increased my calories from 800 to 1000. With the increase in calories came an increase in carbs. I keep a food journal so I am now careful to only choose foods with zero or very low carbs. I think that has helped with my 2 lb loss this week. I will see what happens as the weeks go by. I know there will be other stalls but hopefully I can keep them to a minimum or at least very short. Good luck with your sleeve.

    Fat burners

You shouldn't take anything not approved by your surgeon or NUT. Most of us have tried every diet plan & diet pill that was ever invented. Obviously they didn't work or we wouldn't be here & having or had surgery. I definitely wouldn't take anything because you will lose the fat over time. Don't rush it. A slow loss is much better than a fast one. Give your body time to adjust to it's own level of weight loss. Also, a fast weight loss won't be good for your skin. I hope my comments & others will give you what you are looking for. Good luck with your sleeve.
  21. I am 7 weeks post op & haven't had any real issues. I had little pain, no nausea or gas pain. I did what my surgeon & NUT told me to do so I think that is why my sleeve has done so well. This is not to say that some people do suffer. My niece, who had the R-N-Y bypass about 3 years ago, told me she heard a couple of bad things about sleeve surgery but I just blew it off as to just being uninformed rumors. She's the one that had issues with "dumping". She calls it her "grouch pouch". All that to say, do as your are told & follow the program & you will do just fine. I'm really glad I did this. I'm 70 so I gave this a lot of thought. This is a life time change in how I eat. I'm on a CPAP & 24/7 oxygen. I'm hoping to get rid of both of these with the lost weight. It will also be a big help with my arthritis, gout & heart issues. All around I will be healthier. I had to have my PCP (internist/cardiologist) give his blessing for this surgery. He told me he had several "older" patients that had the sleeve & have done very well. After he said that I decided to go thru with the sleeve & haven't regretted the decision. I hope this helps. I wish you all the best in your journey.

    Compression usage?

I never wore one. I didn't even know about these compression bandages until I saw it on BariatricPal. If your doctor is the one recommending the use of these bandages he/she should know what size. If your doctor hasn't recommended the use of these bandages I don't think I would even worry about it. I have seen others post that they used them & had issues. It will interesting to see what others post on here. Good luck with your sleeve.

    Change in tastes?

I haven't had any cravings for chocolate & I loved it in any form. I think this is a good thing. What I have developed is wanting salty foods. I'm 7 weeks post op so I have tried a lot of stuff. For example, crackers don't have enough salt on them. I'm careful about the amount of salt in/on my food since that's not a good thing either.

    Optifast after surgery?

I was sleeved 5/12/14 & started back on protein when I got home 2 days later. I did not have any issues with this. I was on liquids for 2 weeks & needed the protein shakes to get in the 60 grams each day. I'm amazed at the different opinions each surgeon & NUTs have as to what you can eat & for how long.

    Eating Pace

Glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling with eating a bit fast. I try to chew 20 - 30 times for each bite but it's not a "learned" habit yet. I try not to take normal size drinks of liquid either. It I do it sort of "hurts". Every morning I drink about 4 oz of a Protein drink. About 1 1/2 - 2 hours later I eat an egg with 1/2 slice sourdough bread. I'm getting to many carbs so I need to give up the toast. I can polish off the egg in a few minutes but I try to make it last at least 15 mins. Having a conversation with someone does help. I'm 7 weeks post op today so everything is still a learning curve. Still glad I had this surgery. It is NOT the chicken way out for losing weight & don't let anyone tell you it is. It's difficult but I can adjust.
