Hello everyone,
So glad to have found this online forum about weight loss surgery.
I am a 35 year old female, who had been reading infos online about different weight loss surgeries for the past year. I felt that my weight has started to increase rapidly for the past 3-4 years and as at times I would try to lose weight and be successful by losing a few kilos, my weight would start to increase again unconsciously due to my poor and unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise.
For the past few months, I have once again thought about weight loss surgery and that was the only time I became serious about it as I began to feel too heavy moving and walking around and I started to feel hip and shoulder pain which I think is due to being overweight. I started feeling depressed, very insecure, and emotionally down as well especially when I feel that I need to complete additional tasks at home after a day's work but just could not do it as I feel very exhausted once I reach home. I am unable to keep up with my 7-year old son's physical activities as well as I would rather eat and sleep at home on weekends and days off than do exercise. This I thought also affects my family's physical health. I have been also undergoing a lot of mood changes and I get cranky and grumpy over little things. I started to feel insecure as I feel I can longer be fit and healthy like other young mums I see out there on holidays.
Some time around February 2013, I thought of reading infos on the internet regarding Lap-Band and Sleeve Gastrectomy and I began to assess myself if I would qualify for the procedure. I attended an Information Session in March 2013 at St. George Private Hospital in Kogarah, Sydney to learn more about weight loss surgery.
A few weeks later, I made an appointment with my local GP. I was assessed by my doctor and had a few blood pressure checks as well, including blood tests. My blood pressure was too high for my age and my blood results showed I am at risk of diabetes (mild insulin resistance). As I have family history of hypertension and my father passed away in year 2001 at the age of 46 due to heart attack, I was advised by my doctor to monitor my blood pressure, start eating healthy, and I was advised to do regular exercises as well. This also made me decide to undergo weight loss surgery.
I would like my weight loss surgery to be a tool for me to start living a healthy lifestyle and live longer.
On the 10th of March 2013, I first made an initial consulation with my specialist at St. George Private. I was also seen by the dietitian that day.
My next appointment will be on the 16th of June 2013, 2 weeks before my surgery date on the 1st of July 2013.
5th of April 2013: I am quite nervous but excited at the same time.
I hope and pray that this surgery will be a successful one. I hope that this would be the start of a healthy lifestyle for me. I just could not wait to achieve that new and healthy SWEET, SEXY THING of me in the many, many years to come!!!
