I just wanted to say thank you. Your original post in itself was motivation for me!

I used to be a Starbucks regular.
HYCIERRA replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pumpkin spice coffee at Dunkin Donuts has 34 grams of sugar for a medium coffee and 160 calories. I only made the mistake of ordering it one time. Was too scared to even drink it for fear of dumping! Lol! Dangit! I love pumpkin spice! -

when did your weight loss kick into high gear?
HYCIERRA posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So at my first follow up appointment I was a little bummed at the fact I hadn't list as much weight as I anticipated I would. My surgeon said anything you lose in the first 6 weeks is like icing on the cake, that typically it takes a while for your body to heal and realize what's going on and what it's dose to do with all the changes. I'm coming up on my 6 weeks, I'm down 22 since surgery day, so I'm happy about that, but was curious if you all agree with the surgeon comment. Did you see a difference/increase in your weight loss progression at 6 weeks and beyond or was your big loss immediately following surgery? -
My doctor (and I can confirm) swears by 4 prunes and a cup of room temperature water. I eat the ones that are individually packaged, and then drink just a cup of water. Works magic every time, and it's natural!

Hi! July 8th here, just had my 6 wk follow up with the surgeon. Everything is going great, I'm down 30lbs since surgery, and a total of 54 since my initial visit with the surgeon. Still don't seem to have a lot of energy, but could just be from the fact that I work full time, have 9 kids and a husband who just had double knee replacement who seems to think I'm a 24 hour on call nurse. Uugh exhausted doesn't even begin to explain my mental state! Anyway, haven't really gotten into a consistent exercise routine yet, but Dr was ok with that for now. I am surprised I've not lost more in clothing size. I started at a 22. I'm currently in an 18. Was feeling pretty good about myself so went clothes shopping at the thrift store... tried on 16's and a couple 18's and nothing fit. Totally got discouraged, bummed and down on myself. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I think I set myself up for that disappointment. Live and learn, right? Overall, super happy with the results. Looking forward to my skinny future!

What did you pack for your hospital stay, or better question what did you use or need during your hospital stay? I don't have a clue where to start. Also, any last minute prepping ideas?

I'm hearing varying lengths in time- even within my surgical team. One says a couple hours, another says I'll be under anesthesia for 6 hours, another says 4 hours. What can I expect? (of course not factoring in any unexpected events happening)

Congrats, I know the feeling with the liquids, I couldn't hardly wait to get something of substance back in my mouth to chew!

You look absolutely fabulous!!

When you go into MFP, what do you set your nutrition goals at? RNY is high protein, low fat, low carb. How do I know what percentages to set my goals at so that I keep carbs and fat where they should be...or do you basically just set it based on your protein requirements?

You look absolutely beautiful. What an amazing accomplishment and it couldn't have been done without dedication, hard work, and commitment. Awesome job!!

any possible chance that you are now feeling better about yourself and are presenting yourself in a more positive, more confident light? I get that you say you're not a social butterfly, but, I know from personal experience that when I am heavier, I tend to keep to myself, but when I start losing weight, I'm more confident, more self assured, and a lot of times, that opens the door for people to engage you- even if they have not done so in the past. Maybe you're more approachable now than you were months ago... Perhaps you're glowing and everyone is noticing this. Regardless, please try not to judge these others... and you feel they have judged you in the past. Open yourself up to new adventures and "relationships".

Question from my overthinking pea-brain tonight. A pound is still just a pound after bypass, right? It takes like 3500 extra non-burned calories to gain a true pound? I'm losing, slowly, and only getting in 400-500 calories a day, I just wanted to make sure that since the surgery our bodies and tummy are subject to new caloric rules for gaining. One day I'm up, one day I'm down, so frustrating!! Just making sure I'm on the right track.

Acid reflux meds
HYCIERRA replied to ferguson23024's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was prescribed Nexium. I'm 3 weeks out and was told not you swallow it until I was on solid foods. Currently, I just open the capsule and pour it into some applesauce or yogurt so it goes down easier. My Dr said I need to take this for four months and then I should be ok to stop it as long as I have no issues. -
When to purge old clothes
HYCIERRA replied to ke-sa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never been "into" clothes, so my closet is a little bare. I'm not at the purging stage yet, but afraid that when I am, I'm going to be running around naked. I think a visit to savers is in my near future. Maybe clothes shopping will be fun once I've lost several sizes. -
New Food For Post Ops...

if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could I please have a copy too? Sarah_helverson@yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much. -
Hi. Surgery was on the 8th. All is going great. 14lbs. down since surgery,43 down since starting my process in May. A couple things I've learned quickly... 1) don't eat too fast, it comes back up and 2) don't get cocky and think my baby tummy can handle the next food stage when it's clearly not ready for it. Worse cramps than labor and up it came. I'm just all tired of liquidy pureed foods. Patience isn't one of my strong suits, but believe me, this has taught me a valuable lesson in self discipline. Exactly why I choose this particular surgery!

Lovenox is also a blood thinner, therefore bruising is totally normal. I look like someone beat the crap out of me

Is it possible to get too few calories in at the beginning of your journey? Will this slow your weight loss? I'm 2 weeks postop today, I'm only getting in 400-500 calories per day. Struggling to get my 60 proteins and most days get between 45-50g of protein. Doing ok on water, usually 50-60 ounces per day. The past 3 days, there's been no scale movement. Could be hormonal, could be stress, could just be one of those unexplained things... I'm not upset or worried, but curious about the low calorie count having an impact on my metabolism in the long run. Anyone have experience with this? Maybe some veterans or anyone else who just simply couldn't get the calories down in the beginning and not have it impact you ability to lose at a steady pace?

my only true concern- surgery in less than a week
HYCIERRA posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm set for surgery in 4 days. I couldn't be more excited. I had my final pre-op appointment with my surgeon today and all is well. I'm not nervous, scared, I have no doubts that this is what I want, and what I need. The only thing that scares me (aside from being off work for 2 weeks without pay) is the fact that I'm convinced I will have loose skin. I've had 6 kids and I honestly don't think this ol' belly has any elasticity left in her. Anyone else scared of this more than anything? I'd really love to hear from anyone who's experiencing the saggy skin issue and if it's gotten better or worse over the years. What do you do to conceal it or do you just "hide" it under baggy clothes and don't give it a second thought? -
Weight lose after 2 weeks post op
HYCIERRA replied to mrs.papa923's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm feeling the same way. I had surgery on the 8th of July and I'm also only down 10lbs from my surgery weight. And the past 3 days, I've weighed the same. I've not yet experienced the "full" feeling yet. Satisfied, but not full. I too was expecting a bigger loss by this point... I'm sure it's just our crazy bodies trying to figure out ask out. Not happy about it, but not going to beat myself up over it either. It's a good start to something great! -
Preop: Got grocery items for discharge
HYCIERRA replied to pinkhiker's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was cautioned by the nurses at the hospital to go easy on tomato soup in the beginning. Due to the acid in tomatoes, it may not set to well with your new baby tummy. You might try that one a little but at a time just to be sure you can tolerate it.
