need advice for getting fluids down
LisaLP replied to ninan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're still swollen. It will get easier! For the first several days I could only take the smallest sips, but as swelling went down, I could take larger drinks within a week, and soon I could take normal drinks. Hang in there and keep sipping! -
I was sleeved 3/31 and have had a very easy recovery. I'm down 34 overall, but 15 of that was the per diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I lost about 15 in the first 10 days, and only about 4 in the past 3 weeks. I've been up and down. I'm struggling with making time to exercise, and with getting in my water and protein. The shakes are so gross. Some days I'm perfect, but mostly not. I also find I can comfortably eat more than I probably should. I'm so afraid this isn't going to work. I have 3 busy sons and a husband, and I got the surgery so I can be better for them and be with them longer, but since I've physically recovered, I'm right back to running everywhere and doing everything for them, and my own needs are once again on the back burner. Help!!!

Also, I struggled horribly with constipation until I started eating regular food earlier this week. And I had a brief visit from mother nature. I know none of that helps, but I'm frustrated at having such a big first 10 days and diddly since then.

Freedomfighter. What do you eat yo consume 100g of protein and only 20-25g carbs? I am struggling with this and could use some advice! Thanks!

Sorry if this is tmi, but it is what it is! I was sleeved 3/31 and am having constipation issues. Ever since I came home, I'll go 3 or more days without pooping, then I'll have to take a laxative before bed and once I even had to use a suppository. I have metamucil and stool softeners and I'm going to try that daily starting tomorrow. Is this normal? How have you dealt with it? Thanks!

How much protein & how are you getting it?
LisaLP posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since every practice is different, I'm wondering how much protein you were told you need after surgery. My surgeon says 60 to 80 grams per day. I am 2 weeks post op, and I'm not getting nearly that much. I know we're supposed to focus on water first, and I'm doing fine with that. I just about can't stand the protein shakes, so I got some protein shots and they are even worse but at least there isn't as much to drink. I've started eating high protein foods on the puree stage, like ricotta cheese and things like that. What is your track for getting in protein? -

I was sleeved 3/31. Can't wait until I can eat protein bars ... I am so sick of shakes! -
Just ate the best thing ever ... low-fat ricotta cheese with some Italian seasoning mixed in, topped with marinara & microwaved. Lasagna without the noodles and meat, lol. So yummy!! And ricotta has tons of protein!

I've been swallowing pills since the very beginning, per my surgeon. -
Thinking of Quitting- I'm overwhelmed
LisaLP replied to hopeful2loose2014's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's amazing how different practices have different requirements. Before surgery, I had to do two weeks of 1200 calories a day, & 2 days of a full liquid diet. -
Sleeved 4/9/2014 Can't get all my water in help!
LisaLP replied to Yayavsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It will get much easier in the coming days as internal swelling goes down letting you take slightly larger sips. -
Awesome post! Let's see ... to buy clothes in a regular store, wear cute rain boots, ride rides with my kids without worrying I won't fit, sit in any chair without worrying, take the stairs, hike and bike with my boys, have the energy to get things done, and go to my next class reunion wearing my senior prom dress!

Don't wanna share WLS but need to say something?
LisaLP replied to elfnow's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They are going to figure it out once you lose 100 pounds in a year after surgery. I told family, friends and coworkers before and the support was amazing. After surgery I announced it on Facebook because some people were worried I was Ill. I have over 600 friends and I didn't get one single solitary negative comment. On the contrary, I was floored at all the support and love. Plus, I got private messages from 6 friends considering surgery asking me about my experience. The only reason there's a stigma is because we feel like we have to hide it. Own it! You should be commended for taking charge of your health! -
Wanting to feel normal!

That may just be too early for that kind of food. It's amazing how different practices have different requirements for eating after surgery. I am finishing up two weeks of full liquid diet after my surgery, then I move to 2 weeks of pureed foods, then on to normal food. -
Doubting...please help
LisaLP replied to hopeful2loose2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Completely normal! I was a basket case but now at just 12 days post-op, I can already say this is one of the best decisions I've ever made! -
You look fantastic!!

I work part-time mostly from home but am in the office once or twice a month. I told my boss and a few work friends before. They sent me flowers! After surgery, I pretty much told everyone on Fb because people were worries something was really wrong with me. I have had tons of positive comments and Lord of support, and not one single negative comment. I explained I'm doing this so I can stay healthy and avoid the diabetes and heart disease that run in my family, so I can be here for my husband and kids. It was no secret I was (am still technically ... only 10 days out, lol) obese ... so I figured why keep my solution to the problem a secret? I have actually has a half-dozen people approach me privately and say they're interested in having it done too.

I just discovered them, and even though they taste horrible I'm doing them, taking a few drinks several times a day. My surgeon said liquid consumed for protein (shakes, etc.) doesn't count against my water requirement anyway.

I have been struggling to get in more than one 30-gram-protein shake in addition to my water. I was sleeved 3/1. Today at Wal-Mart, I was looking in the protein section and my son pointed out these little vial a. It's New Whey brand liquid protein, and has 42 g of protein (no caffeine or anything), and 180 calories in 3.8 oz. They're about $2.60 each. I bought a 6-pack of grape for about $14. It tastes like crap, but it's only 3.8 ounces, so I'm going with it. I saw some yummy-looking protein bars and I can't wait to get to the stage where I can eat them instead of drinking shakes or whatever. Thought this might help if anyone else is struggling to get protein in on top of water.

I wondered about that, Kimpossible, so today I'm just taking a few drinks here and there throughout the day. So happy not to have to drink a shake today!

Enough of the super sweet protein!

The taco seasoning idea is genius! Wish I'd have known that when my family was eating tacos last night, lol! I was sleeved 3/31 and have been struggling to get more than 1 shake in. Yesterday at Walmart my 10-year-old son spotted some "vials" from New Whey that are 42 g of protein in just 3.8 oz. Let me tell you, it tastes like ass, but it's so worth it to only have to get 3.8 oz down! I'm taking a few swallows several times a day. I figure I can do this until I get to the point where I can have a protein bar! -
You look wonderful! Congrats!!

When do you start losing weight?
LisaLP replied to acunance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well according to my surgeon anyway, but that's a lot! I'm getting in 64 oz of water and only one or two 6-oz protein shakes. -

Also my surgeon said water is the number one priority, then protein. -

I was sleeved 3/31 and am getting my 64 oz of water in, but only 1 shake most days for 30 g of protein, plus a few bites of yogurt or soup. I was told the milk or whatever used in shakes doesn't count against the 64 oz water requirement. I am also still having slightly dark urine but I honestly don't see how I can drink another drop! I am down maybe 4-5 lbs since surgery.
